Filter by:The research team developed the Nutrition Support Assessment Tool (NSAT) that incorporates key patient life information (e.g., ability to cook, access to refrigerator/stove, medical conditions and nutritional status) to facilitate individualized nutrition referral. The overall goal of this study is to refine and test the NSAT as a systematic approach to provide individualized nutrition needs screening and referral for patients being discharged from the acute care setting at Jefferson Health. The investigators hypothesize the NSAT will be successful in identifying individualized nutrition referrals that are deemed acceptable and appropriate by enrolled participants.
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about the acceptability and feasibility of nutrition education videos among food-insecure parents and caregivers of young children (under 8 years old). Participants will: - Watch short nutrition education videos weekly for 8 weeks. - Complete demographic and nutrition behavior questionnaires at week 1 and week 8. - Participate in three motivational interview phone calls with a nutrition educator lasting 20 minutes over the course of 8 weeks.
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn if home delivered healthy meals (HDHM) with or without (intervention vs. control) social interaction can impact mental health and food security in adults aged 65 and older who live alone and have trouble accessing food. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does HDHM with or without social interaction change the quality of participant food intake? Does HDHM with or without social interaction change the loneliness that participants may experience? Does HDHM with or without social interaction change the depression that participants may experience? Researchers will compare a group that receives HDHM only to a group that receives HDHM and social interaction to see if there is a difference between the two groups in their experienced loneliness and depression, and the quality of food that they eat. Participants will receive 12 weeks' worth of HDHM delivered to their home. Half of the participants will receive weekly phone calls from volunteer student "companions) Participants will also be asked to complete questionnaires over the phone at three timepoints (baseline, 6 weeks, and 12 weeks) during the study. Some participants may also be asked to give their opinions on the program via a telephone conversation.
The investigators are conducting a fully powered cluster randomized controlled trial (RCT) of a culturally appropriate, multicomponent intervention combining peer nutritional counseling with urban gardening among people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) in the Dominican Republic (DR) to assess efficacy, analyze mediators of effects, and evaluate detailed process data to inform scale-up. The study will examine the impact of the intervention on participants' HIV clinical outcomes (HIV viral load, antiretroviral therapy adherence, and HIV care retention) as well as intermediate outcomes such as food security and HIV-related stigma.
Meals on Wheels of Rhode Island (MOWRI), in partnership with the University of Connecticut (UConn), will implement and evaluate an enhanced version of its Home-Delivered Meals Program (HDMP). The project goal is to implement and test the effectiveness of an enhanced Home-Delivered Meals (HDM) service delivery approach. The enhanced approach includes community health worker (CHW) interactions and supplemental healthy grocery bags to address diet quality, food and nutrition security, loneliness, and health-related quality of life for older adults. MOWRI participants at the highest nutritional risk will be randomized to receive standard or enhanced services in order to test the effect of the intervention on health-related outcomes. Anticipated outcomes for individuals receiving enhanced services are improvements in measures of diet quality, food and nutrition security, loneliness, and health-related quality of life compared with those receiving standard HDM services.
The goal of this study is to implement and evaluate a randomized pilot study of a 4-month Nutrition-enhanced community health worker (CHW) intervention for primary care patients with nutrition insecurity and poorly controlled hypertension. The nutrition intervention will be added to the pre-existing Massachusetts General Hospital CHW hypertension (Basic CHW) program that provides hypertension education, coaching about adherence to medications and primary care visits, and home BP cuffs and promotion of BP self-monitoring over the course of approximately 4 months.
The purpose of this study is to conduct a pilot trial of a mobile intervention that targets binge eating and weight-related behaviors, to determine the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of the intervention among adults with recurrent binge eating, diabetes, and food insecurity.
This study seeks to address the multifaceted challenges posed by food disparities and their negative consequences on health outcomes, via a comprehensive community health intervention program. Study objectives include: 1. To describe the social-demographic and clinical factors associated with food insecurity in the hospitalized diabetic population. 2. To design, implement and evaluate a nutrition program targeting the hospitalized diabetic population. The investigators will prospectively randomize the target population into either a nutrition program (Intervention), or state-of-art standard of care (SOC) in a 4:1 ratio. Participants in the intervention group will be provided the following two resources in addition to SOC: 1) Enhanced access to nutritious food (twice daily meal delivery up to 90 days post-discharge) 2) Education at discharge and continuing outreach to enhance knowledge for better diet and food options. 3. To enhance community engagement and develop a systematic implementation plan for long-term roll-out of the nutrition program.
The goal of this observational study is to assess household food insecurity among slum-dwelling women in India and to explore if household food insecurity is associated with utilization of maternal healthcare services, birth outcomes and infant growth. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Is the utilization of maternal healthcare services antenatally, during delivery, and postnatally associated with household food insecurity among slum-dwelling women in Pine, India? - Is household food insecurity associated with birth outcomes and infant growth in these women? Participants will be asked: - For information related to socio-demographic characteristics, healthcare services utilization, food insecurity experience, dietary intake, and infant feeding indicators using a questionnaire. - Anthropometric measurements of the participant, her husband and her infant/s will be collected. - Two focused group discussions (FGDs) will also be conducted to gain insight into the perceptions of these women with respect to the utilization of maternal healthcare services. One FGD will be conducted for women who availed all the healthcare services and the other for those who did not adequately avail of the antenatal and postnatal services.
This is a cluster randomized controlled trial of 30 food pantries affiliated with the Greater Boston Food Bank to test the use of behavioral economics (BE) tools to encourage food pantries to implement the Supporting Wellness at Pantries (SWAP) program, with the goal of fostering accurate use of SWAP traffic light labels on pantry shelves and increasing the healthfulness of foods chosen by pantry clients. Primary outcomes will be assessed at 6 and 12 months to compare the implementation and effectiveness of the SWAP program in the intervention vs. control pantries.
