Filter by:Retrospective observational cohort study of geriatric patients operated of urgent major general surgery in our centre during 2018. Our principal goals are: 1. To evaluate the incidence of post operation complications and its severity (defined by the Claiven-Dindo scale) 2. To evaluate the mortality: global mortality and mortality after: 30 days, 6 months and 1 year.
The proposed research will be a prospective, observational study to test the hypothesis that anchoring will affect verbal pain scores in the emergency department. There will be a small retrospective aspect to this study to obtain patient satisfaction ratings.
In liver cyst hydatid surgery, presence of cysto-biliary communication (CBC) is important for the prevention of postoperative morbidity. If cysto-biliary connections are not obvious, diagnosis is not easy. Intraoperative bile leakage test has been shown to reduce postoperative biliary complications by revealing occult CBCs. However, bile leakage testing in emergency conditions such as hydatid cyst perforation has not been experienced so far.
The proposed research will be a single blinded (patient) randomized controlled prospective trial of adult patients receiving treatment for moderate to severe abdominal pain to test the hypothesis that patient satisfaction with pain control with Ketamine will be comparable to patient satisfaction with pain control using morphine when treating abdominal pain.
Patients in emergency settings might become malnourished. There are different ways to identify the group as 'at risk' of malnutrition. There are also several different ways to measure outcomes. This pilot study will look at patients undergoing emergency laparotomy, investigate relationships between different selection criteria and outcome measures, and test feasibility of outcome measure collection.
A retrospective analysis of emergency general surgical admissions during the first six months of the pandemic (from March 11 to September 11, 2020) and the same period in 2019, will be conducted.
After emergency room visits, the elderly patients can increase their dependence and functional decline. In this context the goal of this study is to demonstrate that there are robustness predictive factors after visit to the emergency room.
Significant challenges and gaps remain in navigating transitions between acute care and outpatient care for many cancer survivors. This study underscores 1) implementation of Emergency Department (ED) risk-stratified treatments protocols that standardize patient care and would allow for rapid re-assessment and access to specialist care with well-coordinated cancer care plans, and 2) the significant numbers of minority cancer survivors seeking episodic care in the ED that are at increased risk of not receiving recommended post cancer treatment surveillance.
This study has 3 main goals: - to quantitavely describe the Covid-19 impact on the organization and functioning of the Lombardy's emergency system; - to create statistical model able to predict the flow of patients to the emergency room during the epidemic period and their destination (ex: discharge, hospitalization, death); - to value the impact on the non Covid-19 patients, both for their possibility to receive medical treatment and as an outcome on their health
Covid-19 (English acronym meaning coronavirus disease 2019) is an emerging infectious disease caused by a strain of coronavirus called SARS-CoV-2. The current pandemic has resulted in a significant number of admissions in the emergency room (ER) due to suspicion of COVID-19 infection. Use of lung ultrasound is standard practice to diagnose acute respiratory failure in ER. Recently, typical lung ultrasonographic characteristics of COVID-19 disease has been described. The investigators demonstrated that the association of 4 signs in pulmonary ultrasound associated with a clinical sign (COVILUS score) could predict the occurrence of a positive RT-PCR in patients suspected of COVID-19 infection admitted to the emergency room. The investigators are going to conduct a new study to validate this COVILUS score in this type of patient. The main objective will be to validate the diagnostic performance of lung ultrasound in patients admitted to the emergency room with suspected COVID19 infection.
