Filter by:The goal of this trial is to assess the effect on the quality of life (QoL) of recommending a fat-free diet versus a balanced WHO diet in symptomatic patients with gallstones and in patients undergoing cholecystectomy for gallstone disease. The main question it aims to answer is: • Is balanced WHO diet as good as low-fat diet in terms of patient reported outcomes when gallstone disease is managed non-operatively (RADIGAL-1) or cholecystectomy is performed (RADIGAL-2)? A validated QoL questionnaire (Gastrointestinal Quality of Life Index - GIQLI) will be administered both at baseline and during follow-up. Analysis of covariance with ordinary least squares estimation will be applied to estimate between-group differences in GIQLI scores at 3 months (primary endpoint). Patient adherence and the disease-related symptoms occurrence or hospitalizations will also be appraised (secondary endpoint). Participants presenting with biliary colic or acute cholecystitis (RADIGAL-1) or undergoing cholecystectomy for gallstones (RADIGAL-2) will: - be randomly assigned to recommending either a fat-free or a balanced WHO diet . - be contacted via phone call to complete the GIQLI questionnaire and document overall adherence to the diets and secondary outcome events. This trial examines the impact of diet on adverse events in gallstone disease, representing the first randomized study to focus on this aspect.
With funding from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), the Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy will be implementing a new, health and wellbeing program for Head Start educators at ABCD Head Start Centers in the greater Boston area. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the combined impact of a health and wellness program and behavior change guides. The evaluation will focus on ABCD Head Start educators as the study population. Tufts University's Friedman School of Nutrition Science and Policy is responsible for implementing and evaluating this new intervention through surveys and analysis of administrative (health and wellness App) data. A paper and pencil survey will be used to gather information on dietary, physical activity, and sleep behaviors. The surveys will also include a module on satisfaction with the health and wellness App and Guides. Survey data will be combined with the administrative data about App utilization.
Lay language summary: Women are younger and menstruating about monthly ("pre-menopausal") often have fluctuations in the food they eat ("dietary intake") across the menstrual cycle. However, relationships between food intake and appetite, metabolism, body composition (i.e., the proportion of muscle and fat), physical activity and premenstrual symptoms have not been reported. This study will measure appetite and food intake in laboratory and usual life settings in healthy pre-menopausal women in two hormonally different parts of the menstrual cycle. Data on ovarian hormones, metabolism, body composition, physical activity and premenstrual symptoms will also be collected to assess their potential relationship with food intake.
The goal of this clinical trial is to evaluate cardiometabolic and inflammatory parameters in kidney transplant recipients after transitioning to a plant-based diet (PBD). The main aims of the study are as follows: - To test the feasibility of transiting renal allograft recipients who are > 3 months post-transplant to a PBD - To study the effect of a PBD on cardiometabolic parameters in kidney transplant recipients - To assess the effect of a PBD on peripheral blood Th17/Treg ratio and systemic inflammation in kidney transplant recipients Participants will be asked to: - Complete a 2-week investigator-designed PBD transition program - Follow a PBD for a minimum of 16 weeks - Consent for blood draws, urine samples, and fecal samples along with physical exams - Complete intermittent food frequency questionnaires and quality of life questionnaires - Periodically meet with investigators and other study participants Researchers will compare baseline measurements with future measurements for each participant.
The present study is testing spermidine treatment in elderly patients with coronary artery disease. The study is a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled, two-armed, parallel-group, single centre, clinical study.
This study will evaluate a newly developed multimodal health intervention including dietary approach to stop hypertension (DASH) diet, exercise (Ex), and medication adherence (MA) using motivational interviewing (MI) counselling (DASH-Ex MAMI) for hypertensive Jordanian adults in primary care settings.
Evaluation of sensory acceptability of fortified products prior to distribution is essential. We aim to evaluate whether fortification affects sensory qualities and whether these are acceptable to rural communities. Standard meals will be prepared using unfortified and fortified-flour with folic acid and vitamin B12. Preference and triangle tests will be conducted among women residing in rural areas of Ethiopia.
The investigator's goal is to promote a plant-based diet amongst the underserved urban population of Louisville with the help of educational aids and the provision of affordable resources.
The goal of this cohort study is to investigate the underlying risk factors to develop metabolic syndrome (MetS) during pregnancy, and the associations of MetS and its indicators with birth outcomes in southwest Ethiopia. The study population consists of low-risk pregnant ladies in their first antenatal care visit (ANC), from Jimma Medical center. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: i) How do MetS components progress during pregnancy, and what are the underlying risk factors? ii) What is the association between MetS components during early- and late pregnancy and adverse pregnancy outcomes? iii) What is the knowledge, attitude and practices of women toward dietary habits, food taboos, and cultural beliefs during pregnancy? The study population consists of low-risk pregnant ladies in their first trimester (<15 weeks of pregnancy) in their first antenatal care visit (ANC) who will be followed up until one-month postpartum. Enrolled women will be assessed four times: at enrolment ≤15 weeks of pregnancy, mid-pregnancy (at 24 weeks), and late pregnancy (at 36 weeks), and within two weeks post-partum for: 1. Sociodemographic data 2. Dietary intake 3. Biochemical analyses 4. Maternal anthropometry: 5. Body composition in a subsample. 6. Knowledge, attitudes and practices of dietary practices during pregnancy 7. Pregnancy and birth outcomes: During the final visit, new born babies will be assessed for Apgar score, weight, length, and head circumference. The mother will be examined for general health and mode of delivery.
This is a randomized placebo-controlled study that aims to investigate the effect of a new maternal dietary supplement (protein hydrolysate/yeast beta-glucan combination) on mother and infant health.
