Low Dose β-carotene Supplementation Diminishes Oxidative Stress in Type 2 Diabetics and Healthy Individuals

Start date: January 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Since diabetes has multiple etiologies and oxidative stress one of the proposed mechanisms, the objective is to determine the effect of supplementation with β-carotene to type 2 diabetics and healthy individuals, on iron metabolism, oxidative balance, and antioxidant plasma capacity, using doses similar to the daily nutritional requirement.

GLORIA-AF Registry Program - Second and Third Phases

Start date: November 7, 2011
Phase:
Study type: Observational

In this part of the Registry Program patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation (AF) at risk for stroke are enrolled to characterize the target population and to collect real world data on important outcome events. For administrative purposes the study is divided into two protocol numbers: 1160.129 for all non-EU (European Union) and non-EEA (European Economic Area) countries, and 1160.136 for EU and EEA countries. The total number of patients enrolled in both protocols is estimated to be 48,000 patients, and all these patients will be included in the data analysis for study 1160.129.

NCT ID: NCT01447043 Completed - Clinical trials for Ophthalmology, Macular Degeneration

Study to Assess the Effectiveness of Existing Anti vascUlar Endothelial Growth Factor (Anti VEGF) in Patients With Wet Age-related Macular Degeneration (wAMD) (AURA)

AURA
Start date: January 2009
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

Retrospective, non-interventional, observational multi-center field study. Patients diagnosed with wet Age-related macular degeneration (wAMD) and having started treatment with ranibizumab between January 1, 2009 and August 31, 2009 must be consecutively screened and, if eligible, enrolled. Patients will be followed up at maximum until August 31, 2011. Switch to any other Anti vascUlar endothelial growth factor (anti VEGF) treatment will be documented and followed up. For each patient, demographics, medical history, administered treatments, results of ocular and visual assessments and other tests (where available) will be documented.

NCT ID: NCT01318941 Completed - Clinical trials for Diabetic Macular Edema

Observe the Effectiveness and Safety of Ranibizumab in Real Life Setting

LUMINOUS
Start date: March 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

This study will describe the long-term safety and effectiveness, treatment patterns, and patient reported quality of life associated with ranibizumab treatment in routine clinical practice for all approved indication included in the local product label.

NCT ID: NCT01285726 Completed - Clinical trials for Chronic Renal Failure

Initiative for Patient Outcomes in Dialysis - Peritoneal Dialysis (PD) (IPOD-PD Study)

IPOD-PD
Start date: January 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

The aim of the study is to asses the hydration status of incident peritoneal dialysis (PD) patients and its evolution over a period of four years, independent of the PD treatment modality (APD or CAPD) and the PD solution type.

NCT ID: NCT01282346 Completed - Glaucoma Clinical Trials

SOLX Gold Shunt for Refractory Glaucoma

Start date: January 2011
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

To establish the clinical performance of the SOLX Gold Shunt for its ability to reduce intraocular pressure (IOP) in eyes with refractory glaucoma where medical and conventional surgical treatments have failed.

NCT ID: NCT01255150 Completed - Clinical trials for Non-Small-Cell Lung Carcinoma

Frequency of EGFR Mutations in Latinos/Hispanics With Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

Start date: December 1, 2010
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Background: - Research has shown that the Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor (EGFR) gene is an important target for personalized lung cancer treatment. Individuals who have mutations in the EGFR gene have better responses when treated with certain personalized or targeted therapies compared with conventional chemotherapy. These mutations are more frequent in females with lung cancer who have never smoked, and different ethnic groups have different levels of frequency of the mutations. Researchers are interested in collecting more information on EGFR genetic mutations in Hispanics/Latinos with lung cancer, comparing the frequency of these mutations in males and females and smokers and nonsmokers. This study may lead to better, more personalized care approaches for all individuals with lung cancer. Objectives: - To study the frequency of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor mutations in Hispanic/Latino individuals who have been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer. Eligibility: - Hispanic or Latino individuals who have been diagnosed with non-small cell lung cancer and who have lung tissue from a previous biopsy or surgery available for research purposes. Design: - Participants will provide consent for researchers to examine lung tissue collected from a previous biopsy or surgery. - Treatment will not be provided as part of this protocol.

NCT ID: NCT01231165 Completed - Clinical trials for Coronary Heart Disease

Treatment of Coronary Heart Disease With Amiloride

Start date: February 2009
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

Treatment of coronary artery disease is a major health care problem across the entire word, and the United States. Unfortunately, despite a number of medical advances, diagnostic procedure, or epidemiological studies, the treatment of these patients remain complex, and and at times frustrating. In fact, the COURAGE trial conducted in 50 centers across United States and Canada documented that drug treatment, coronary interventions or both were not effective solution in coronary artery diseases. A novel approach has recently been developed, based on the critical role of the potassium (K) content in red-blood-cell in myocardial oxygenation, since oxygen and K binding by hemoglobin (red-blood-cell) occurs simultaneously in blood passing through the lungs, whereas in the organs as the heart, the hemoglobin release both Oxygen and K ions. This apparently simple mechanisms occurs in human blood in all individuals but could be altered in subjects with acquired or hereditable defect in red-blood-cell K content. The purpose of this trial, thus, will be to evaluate the pharmacological effects of Amiloride on RBC K-uptake and transport and its impact on reversion of angina, electrocardiographic changes of myocardial ischemia and electrical regeneration of the heart in subjects with coronary artery diseases.
