Efficacy and Safety of 3 Doses of Tiotropium Compared to Placebo in Adolescents (12 to 17 Yrs) With Moderate Asthma

The primary objective of this trial is to evaluate the efficacy and safety of tiotropium 1.25 mcg (2 actuations of 0.625 mcg), tiotropium 2.5 mcg (2 actuations of 1.25 mcg) and tiotropium 5 mcg (2 actuations of 2.5 mcg) once daily in the evening delivered by the Respimat inhaler in adolescents (12 to 17 yrs) with moderate persistent asthma, compared to placebo and on top of maintenance therapy with an inhaled corticosteroid controller medication. It is a randomised, double-blind, placebo-controlled Phase II trial with incomplete cross-over design. Patients need to be still symptomatic, i. e. not fully controlled with their maintenance treatment.

This post-marketing surveillance study is designed to supplement the data on efficacy and tolerability of Micardis® and MicardisPlus® in patients at cardiovascular risk under general practice conditions. The aim of the study is to investigate the effect of a six-month treatment with Micardis® / MicardisPlus® on blood pressure and the effect of the Lifestyle education tool for weight reduction on blood pressure control. In addition, the post-marketing surveillance study will provide information on the effects on target measurement of the Lifestyle education tool and various laboratory parameters produced by treatment with Micardis® and MicardisPlus® in an unselected patient population under general practice conditions.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S), better known as a poisonous gas, has emerged as the third gaseous transmitter in mammals, next to nitric oxide (NO) and carbon monoxide (CO). Increased production and higher serum concentrations were shown in inflammatory diseases, septic shock and stroke. The investigators will test the hypothesis that higher serum H2S concentrations on admission to intensive care unit (ICU) are linked with higher mortality in patients with shock of any reason.

The aim of this post-marketing observational study (PMOS) is to provide data on the effectiveness and tolerability of Tarka in patients with a high risk of developing diabetes mellitus, as prescribed by the physicians in a community setting and in accordance with the terms of the local marketing authorization. The following specific questions will be addressed: - Effectiveness of Tarka in lowering the blood pressure in hypertensive patients being at high risk of developing diabetes, not controlled on single-drug therapy. - Tolerability of Tarka as assessed by withdrawal rates.
