The primary objective is to compare the time to progression (TTP) of three daily doses of thalidomide (100, 200 and 400 mg) with high-dose dexamethasone in relapsed refractory multiple myeloma (MM) patients and to subsequently select the optimum thalidomide dose in terms of median TPP and toxicity.
This single arm study will assess the safety and efficacy of Avastin combined with platinum-containing chemotherapy regimens in patients with advanced or recurrent non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Avastin will be given as first-line treatment in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy or in combination with any standard of care NSCLC first-line chemotherapy used in line with the licensed national prescribing information. Eligible patients will receive Avastin (15mg/kg iv on day 1 of each 3 week cycle) concomitantly with chemotherapy. Avastin treatment will continue after completion of chemotherapy cycles until disease progression, and the target sample size is 500+ individuals.
To determine if treatment with BG00012 can decrease the number of MS relapses during a certain time period. Other goals of the study are to determine if, over time, BG00012 treatment can decrease the number of certain types of brain lesions commonly seen in MS patients and slow down the time it takes for MS to get worse. Other objectives of the study are to determine the safety and tolerability of BG00012, as well as the effect it may have on tests and evaluations used to assess MS. Additionally, glatiramer acetate is being used to compare its benefits and risks with placebo and BG00012.
This study consists of a 4 week run-in period with a Ca based phosphate binder and 12 weeks treatment period by MCI-196 or placebo, (both on Ca based phosphate binder). During the treatment period, MCI-196 or placebo will be titrated every 3 weeks.
Chronic foot ulcers are a common, severe and expensive complication in patients with diabetes and often causes lower-extremity amputation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of bemiparin as treatment of diabetic foot ulcers.
The main purpose of this study is to determine the safety of BIIB014 and how well BIIB014 is tolerated when given at different doses to patients with early-stage Parkinson's Disease. This study will also explore: - How BIIB014 is affected when given to patients with early-stage Parkinson's Disease (this will be done by measuring the levels of BIIB014 in the blood at several different times during the study), and - The activity of BIIB014 when given to early Parkinson's patients (this will be done by performing different Parkinson's Disease assessments and other tests during the study). Patients who enter this study will be randomly assigned to receive either BIIB014 or a placebo but because the study is blinded, neither they nor their study doctor will know which study treatment they are taking.
The purpose of the study is to assess the overall survival and progression free survival of patients treated with Litx™ + chemotherapy versus chemotherapy alone in the treatment of Colorectal Cancer with recurrent liver metastases, and to demonstrate the safety of Litx™ therapy. Litx™ consists of a light-activated drug, talaporfin sodium (LS11, Light Sciences Oncology, Bellevue, Washington), and a light generating device, composed of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), that is energized by a power controller and percutaneously placed in the target tumor tissue inside the body.
This 2 arm study will compare the level of anemia, and the decline in renal function, between patients receiving NeoRecormon, and those not receiving it. Patients with chronic kidney disease, stage 2-4, and not receiving dialysis, will be randomized 2:1 to a group receiving NeoRecormon (at a dose determined by the investigator to achieve and maintain an Hb level of 120-135 g/L), or to a control group not receiving NeoRecormon. The anticipated time on study treatment is 3-12 months, and the target sample size is <100 individuals.
To evaluate the antidepressant effect of adjunctive treatment with Eszopiclone in subjects receiving venlafaxine for the treatment of Major Depressive Disorder (MDD).
This 2 arm study will evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral Valcyte compared with intravenous ganciclovir for the treatment of CMV disease in solid organ transplant recipients. Eligible patients will be randomized to receive either 1)Valcyte 900mg po bid or 2)ganciclovir 5mg/kg iv bid. The anticipated time on study treatment is 1-2 years and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
