There are about 3194 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Portugal. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The study was designed to assess the efficacy of a home-based rehabilitation program using a digital kinematic biofeedback system after total hip or knee replacement. This is a single-arm prospective study. Patients will be enrolled pre-operatively and will perform an 8-week rehabilitation program starting between day 7 and 10 after surgery. This program will consist of rehabilitation sessions performed independently by the patient at under remote monitoring from a physical therapist. Outcomes will be measured at baseline, 4 weeks into the rehabilitation program and at the end of the program. The primary outcome is the change in patient performance measure through the Timed-up-and-Go (TUG) test in comparison with the pre-operative score. Secondary outcomes will be measured in terms of: a) patient reported outcomes (Hip or Knee Osteoarthritis Outcome Score) and b) range of motion of the relevant joint (hip or knee).
The purpose of the study is to test the effectiveness (how well the drug works), safety, and tolerability of the investigational drug called NKTR-214, when combined with nivolumab versus nivolumab given alone in participants with previously untreated melanoma skin cancer that is either unable to be surgically removed or has spread
This study will evaluate the efficacy, safety, and pharmacokinetics of faricimab administered at 8-week intervals or as specified in the protocol following treatment initiation, compared with aflibercept once every 8 weeks (Q8W), in participants with diabetic macular edema (DME).
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of one session of aerobic exercise associated with radiofrequency in lipolytic activity and lipid profile.
Breast cancer is a major public health problem and is the main cancer disease in women worldwide and in Europe. In Portugal it is the most common cancer, the third cause of cancer death, following the European trend. Breast cancer (BC) triggers a myriad of physical and psychosocial stressors with repercussions on quality of life (QoL). This study is a pioneering Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) in Portugal, which seeks to study the impact of a hedonic aroma during chemotherapy on women with breast cancer (3, 6 and 9 weeks, and 3 months after completion of chemotherapy). To this end, participants will be randomly assigned to one of the groups. The experimental group (EG) will be exposed to chemotherapy together with a hedonic aroma, while the control group (CG) will only be exposed to chemotherapy. Both groups will be assessed on psychological morbidity, illness perception, self-efficacy for coping, executive function, cortisol levels, side-effects, beliefs about chemotherapy and QoL. The aim of this study is to assess the impact of a hedonic aroma on the clinical, emotional and neurocognitive variables that contribute to reducing the side effects of chemotherapy and promoting QoL in women with BC.
Vascular cognitive impairment (VCI) is one of the most frequent causes of cognitive impairment associated with aging. So far, there is no approved treatment for VCI. Recent studies have suggested a protective effect from physical activity but adequate studies are lacking in this field. The AFIVASC study - a Portuguese acronym for "physical activity in vascular cognitive impairment" is a randomized controlled study, single-blinded, nonpharmacological which aims to explore the benefits of physical activity in vascular cognitive impairment (VCI)
The researchers are doing the study to see if semaglutide may reduce the risk of having cardiovascular events in patients with overweight or obesity and with prior cardiovascular disease. The participant will either get semaglutide (active medicine) or placebo ("dummy" medicine). Which treatment the participants get is decided by chance. The participant's chance of getting semaglutide or placebo is the same. The participant will get the study medicine in a pen. The participants will need to use the pen to inject the study medicine in a skinfold once a week. The study will last for about 2.5 to 5 years. Participants will have up to 25 clinic visits with the study doctor.
The investigators want to verify whether the surgical outcome of vessel-sparing anastomotic repair in isolated short bulbar urethral strictures is not inferior to the surgical outcome of transecting anastomotic repair. Furthermore, the investigators compare the functional outcome of both techniques verifying if there is less erectile dysfunction after vessel-sparing anastomotic repair than after transecting anastomotic repair.
The primary objective of this study is to assess the overall safety profile of idelalisib monotherapy in patients with refractory follicular lymphoma (FL).
This prospective registry is intended to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the XIENCE Sierra stent.
