There are about 682 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Lebanon. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
To this day, a small number of studies have evaluated the effect of melatonin on the modifications of the characteristics of sleep in critical care units, with mostly a small studied population. However, no study has been realized on a large population, nor has it evaluated the association between genetic factors and response to treatment (melatonin), hence the originality of our study. In our study we hypothesized that systematic melatonin usage in ICU can ameliorate the total sleep time and the fragmentation index and can decrease the confusion related to sleep deprivation.
Primary Objective: Assess effectiveness of insulin glargine (U300) in achieving glycemic goal measured by hemoglobin A1c (HbA1c). Secondary Objectives: - Assess effectiveness in achieving glycemic goal measured by HbA1c; - Assess effectiveness on change in HbA1c, fasting plasma glucose (FPG) and self-monitored plasma glucose (SMPG) ; - Assess requirement for intensification of therapy by additional antidiabetics. - Assess incidence of hypoglycemia; - Assess other safety endpoints: adverse events (AEs), serious adverse events (SAEs); - Assess change in body weight.
Post operative atrial fibrillation following coronary surgery (POAF) is a common complication that can affect 10-50% of patients. Intravenous magnesium, administered per-or post-operatively, reduces the incidence of POAF. However, the effect of preoperative magnesium loading on the incidence of POAF is not yet studied. 200 patients admitted for elective coronary surgery under Cardiopulmonary bypass will be included in this prospective randomized controlled trial. Treatment group will receive preoperative oral magnesium and control group will receive placebo for 3 days before the planned coronary artery surgery. The occurrence of POAF will be studied as a main outcome.
Evaluate the short-term safety and efficacy of dexmedetomidine (0.0055%) drops on intraocular pressure (IOP) in healthy eyes.
Background: Acute diarrhea in children is still a major health burden worldwide despite all efforts that have been made to reduce its incidence and prevalence. Children are more prone for dehydration that is the most common serious complication of acute diarrhea and can be easily avoided. Initiation of rehydration, early refeeding and giving suitable antimicrobial agents when indicated are the cornerstone for management. In addition, studies have emphasized on the role and efficacy of probiotics and zinc supplements on acute diarrhea in children. Indeed, there are a lot of studies on the role of zinc and probiotic in reducing the severity of acute diarrhea, but not many studies have compared effect of using a combination zinc with probiotics to zinc alone and probiotics alone on acute diarrhea. Objective:To compare the effectiveness of use of probiotics only, zinc only, and combination of zinc with probiotics on the duration and consistency of diarrhea in children presented for acute gastroenteritis. Methods: A total of 240 patients diagnosed with acute diarrhea will be divided into three groups each of 80 patients. The first group will be managed by addition of probiotics to standard treatment. The second group will be managed by addition of zinc to the standard treatment. The third group will be managed by the addition to a combination of zinc and probiotics to standard treatment. The patients will be followed to compare the effect of the given medication on the duration of diarrhea.
Colonoscopy has been used for ages as an evaluating tool of the colonic mucosa for screening and early detection of colonic cancer. Several studies have reported that poor bowel preparation reduces detection of polyps that may have the potential to be cancerous. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) has become the most commonly used agent for colon cleansing because it does not cause fluid exchange across the mucosal membrane and thereby limits fluid and electrolyte disturbances. Only a few studies have evaluated the effects of different diet types on bowel preparation under controlled circumstances. Various studies were made to find the best pre-colonoscopy diet with no single clear study comparing all 3 dietary regimen together was carried out. So, evidence for the efficacy of a RD (regular diet) in bowel preparation is lacking, which led us to question whether it is reasonable to recommend a RD for 24 hours prior to colonoscopy as part of a PEG-based bowel prepa¬ration in healthy inpatients. The investigators are proposing to carry out a randomized clinical trial at Makassed General Hospital and include patients from October 2018 till February 2019. The data of 90 stable adult patients will be obtained through patients' interviews. In the trial, all adult inpatients (range, 18 to 80 years old) undergoing colonoscopy for colorectal cancer (CRC) screening in Makassed General Hospital with nonspecific gastrointestinal symptoms will be candidates for inclusion in the study. Patient receiving endoscopy will be asked to answer multiple questions on the day of procedure. Patients will be randomly allocated to one of 3 groups: Regular Diet (RD), Clear Fluid (CF) and Low-Residue Diet (LRD). The primary outcome will consist of the quality of bowel preparation and efficacy of colon cleansing.
This is a Phase II, randomized, multicentre, multinational, open-label, cross-over study in adult patients who have completed neoadjuvant chemotherapy with neoadjuvant pertuzumab and trastuzumab and have undergone surgical treatment of human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2)-positive early breast cancer. The study will consist of two adjuvant treatment periods: a treatment cross-over period and a treatment continuation period. It will evaluate participant-reported preference for a subcutaneously administered fixed-dose combination formulation (FDC SC) of pertuzumab and trastuzumab compared with intravenously (IV) administered pertuzumab and trastuzumab formulations. The study will also evaluate participant-reported satisfaction with pertuzumab and trastuzumab FDC SC and health-related quality of life outcomes; healthcare professionals' perceptions of time/resource use and convenience of pertuzumab and trastuzumab FDC SC compared with pertuzumab and trastuzumab IV formulations; as well as the safety and efficacy of each study regimen.
The objective of this study is to determine the efficacy of probiotics containing 25Bn (billion) CFU (colony-forming unit) of Lactobacillus rhamnosus, Sacchromyces boulardii and Bifidobacterium breve in the prevention of antibiotic induced diarrhea and Clostridium difficile diarrhea. The chosen population consists of 190 hospitalized patients taking antibiotics. Preselected and randomized patients will take probiotics once daily until 1 week after the course of antibiotic is over or a placebo with 0 CFU. The primary outcome is to detect the occurrence of an antibiotic-associated diarrhea. The secondary outcome is to assess the presence of Clostridium difficile toxins in stool culture.
Adiposity is a state of sub-clinical inflammation, thus hepcidin is increased in adiposity, often leading to iron deficiency in this population group. Central adiposity is generally considered having a greater negative effect on health compared to peripheral adiposity. Whether this can be also seen in hepcidin and thereby in iron absorption is uncertain.
The goal of this study is to assess the ease of ETT threading over the FOB on the right or left labial commissures in patients aging between 18 and 70 years old with ASA score I-II and undergoing any type of surgery. The main question it aims to answer is whether threading the tube on the right labial commissure during FOB intubation has a better success rate than threading the tube on the left labial commissure. Participants will be randomized via a computerized system into 2 groups (Group 1: Patients intubated with FOB by threading the tube on the left labial commissure and Group 2: Patients intubated with FOB by threading the tube on the right labial commissure). Researchers will compare the success rate of threading the tube on first trial, number of ETT threading trials, time to success, and incidence of intra-procedural complication between the two groups to see if threading the tube on the right labial commissure during FOB intubation has a better success rate than threading the tube on the left labial commissure.
