There are about 218 clinical studies being (or have been) conducted in Iceland. The country of the clinical trial is determined by the location of where the clinical research is being studied. Most studies are often held in multiple locations & countries.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effect of two different maintenance doses of Symbicort Maintenance And Reliever Therapy (SMART) in adult asthmatic patients. A 6 month treatment period
This study will evaluate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of topical 10% terbinafine hydrogen chloride applied daily versus 5% amorolfine nail lacquer applied twice a week in patients with mild to moderate toenail onychomycosis, for a total treatment duration of 48 weeks.
This single arm study will assess the safety and efficacy of Avastin combined with platinum-containing chemotherapy regimens in patients with advanced or recurrent non-squamous non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). Avastin will be given as first-line treatment in combination with platinum-based chemotherapy or in combination with any standard of care NSCLC first-line chemotherapy used in line with the licensed national prescribing information. Eligible patients will receive Avastin (15mg/kg iv on day 1 of each 3 week cycle) concomitantly with chemotherapy. Avastin treatment will continue after completion of chemotherapy cycles until disease progression, and the target sample size is 500+ individuals.
The purpose of this study is to asses changes in glycosylated hemoglobin, fasting blood lipids and genetic polymorphism's in peroxisomal proliferator activated receptors--gamma receptor after 6 months of pioglitazone, once daily (QD), treatment.
This study is designed to assess the efficacy, safety and tolerability of a topical formulation of terbinafine solution applied daily in patients with toenail fungus. This trial will study patients with mild to moderate toenail fungus disease of the big toenail and their responses to two treatment durations, 24 or 48 weeks.
This study will investigate if the drug zoledronic acid given once yearly is safe and has beneficial effects in treating osteoporosis by reducing bone loss and fractures in men with osteoporosis.
Multiple myeloma is a malignant incurable hematological disease where survival has been significantly improved by high-dose melphalan with autologous stem cell support (ASCT) in younger patients. However, the disease will eventually relapse and new treatment is demanded. Bortezomib is a newly approved drug for treating relapsing multiple myeloma. It has a different biological effect and response even in patients refractory to conventional chemotherapy. The purpose of the study is in a randomized design to investigate if addition of bortezomib by 20 injections during a 4 months period starting 3 month after ASCT can prolong the time to progression compared to patients receiving no consolidation or maintenance therapy.
This 2 arm study will investigate the efficacy, safety and tolerability of RAR Gamma versus placebo in ex-smokers with moderate or severe emphysema treated with optimal COPD therapy. Following optimization of COPD therapy (up to 6 weeks) patients will be randomized to receive either RAR Gamma (5mg) or placebo once daily using a 2:1 ratio (active:placebo), in addition to their standard therapy. Following the double-blind treatment period, patients will enter a 4-week follow-up period. The anticipated time on study period is 1-2 years, and the target sample size is 100-500 individuals.
To assess the long-term (6 month and 12 month) safety of the combination of aliskiren 300 mg / amlodipine 10 mg in patients with essential hypertension (Mean Sitting Diastolic Blood Pressure [msDBP] ≥ 90 mmHg and < 110 mmHg).
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as docetaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Giving docetaxel after surgery may kill any tumor cells that remain after surgery. Sometimes, after surgery, the tumor may not need more treatment until it progresses. In this case, observation may be sufficient. It is not yet known whether giving docetaxel after surgery is more effective than observation in treating prostate cancer. PURPOSE: This randomized phase III trial is studying docetaxel to see how well it works compared with observation in treating patients who have undergone radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer.
