The aim of this study is to compare two frequently used sensors for continuous glucose monitoring (CGM); Freestyle Libre and Dexcom G 7. More precisely, the investigators want to investigate if there is any difference in the hypoglycemic range for these two devices.
This study examines circulating tumor DNA (ctDNA) as a biomarker for early detection of recurrence in high-risk patients, following treatment of primary melanoma. The hypothesis is that ctDNA can provide accurate detection of recurrence or metastasis, at the time of or earlier than current methods, leading to improved management and hopefully prognosis, based on earlier detection.
Chronic itch affects approximately a fifth of the global population and is associated with substantial negative consequences for the affected individuals. Furthermore, there is a lack of efficient treat-ment options for chronic itch. Topical ketamine cream has been used successfully to relieve various forms of pain, and we hypothesize that topical ketamine relieves itch through a mechanism of action comparable to that in pain relief. The aim of this project is to evaluate the effects of ketamine both alone and in combination with amitriptyline on histaminergic and non-histaminergic itch induced by histamine and cowhage, respectively.
The goal of the present clinical descriptive study is to characterize and quantify the potential hormonal chronobiological differences between individuals with type 2 diabetes (T2D) and healthy age and weight-matched controls as either circadian aligned or misaligned. The investigators hypothesize that individuals with T2D have a misaligned and different circadian rhythmicity of circadian biomarkers (melatonin and cortisol) than controls, and that this difference in turn is related to 24h hormonal fluctuations, behaviour, and metabolic-, cardiac-, and cognitive parameters. Participants will be asked to: - fill-out a diary on eating and sleeping habits for 30 days - wear an actigraphy and continuous glucose monitor for 10-14 days - stay overnight at the research facility, including continuous blood sampling and polysomnography
The aim of this mixed methods trial is to investigate the feasibility of a collective person-centred dialogue (COPE-D) intervention delivered by an interdisciplinary team for a population of patients hospitalised and diagnosed with COPD and their relatives. The main questions it aims to answer are: - The clinical uncertainties: What components of the COPE-D intervention are delivered to the included patients? (The data will be collected from the patient's journal record) - The clinical uncertainties: How acceptable is the COPE-D intervention for the patients, relatives, and the interdisciplinary team? (Answered by patient and relative interviews with a structured interview guide before discharge and 14 days after hospitalisation, and by the interdisciplinary team using focus-group interviews after the intervention enrolment). - The procedural uncertainties: Are the patients willing to engage in the trial? (Estimated by the inclusion rate). The interdisciplinary team will be instructed to deliver and document the COPE-D intervention. The primary focus of COPE-D intervention is to prepare and enhance the patient's and relative's ability to regain their everyday life after discharge. The COPE-D intervention includes a dialogue tool based on a needs assessment, an action plan template, and a patient guide that prepares for discharge. The interdisciplinary team will collaborate with COPD patients and their relatives to: 1. Assess the patient's need for nutrition and physical activity support, both during and after hospitalisation using the dialogue tool. 2. Develop an action plan for nutrition and physical activity support using the action plan template. 3. The interdisciplinary team will provide, adjust, and document the nutritional and physical activity support provided by the action plan. 4. Prior to discharge, patients and their relatives are given a discharge guide with pre-defined questions to ask healthcare professionals, a contact telephone number to the outpatient clinic for follow-up if needed, and information about prescriptions for oral nutritional supplementation.
Levodopa-induced dyskinesia (LID) in Parkinson's disease (PD) are involuntary movements caused by long-term treatment with dopaminergic replacement therapy (levodopa). During the cause of PD, most patients develop LID. In this study, the investigators plan to investigate how the cortico-basal-ganglia networks are affected in LID. The investigators will examine PD patients with and without LID as well as healthy age-matched controls using fMRI and PET. During the fMRI experiment, participants will perform a novel go-no task engaging both motor, emotional and reward brain networks. Patients will be scanned before and after intake of levodopa to study the dynamic effects of dopaminergic therapy. Furthermore, a dopamine transporter PET will be acquired to study the dopaminergic degeneration of the patients with PD.
Summary Person-centered care is a hot topic within healthcare, yet communication about patients' sexual health and intimacy issues remain too hot to handle within healthcare. Research indicates that sexual dysfunction and impaired sexual health are frequent among individuals with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Despite patients expecting healthcare professionals to address intimacy issues; these issues are often neglected, since the topic is a taboo. This study aims to address a gap in observational research by investigating the physical, psychological and social aspects of sexual health in both men and women with and without COPD. The primary hypothesis of this survey-based cross-sectional study is that COPD negatively impacts sexual health, leading to increased loneliness, relationship dissatisfaction, anxiety and/or depression, along with decreased health-related quality of life and well-being in patients. The study seeks to identify associations between impaired sexual health and these factors. By fostering a new understanding of these aspects, this study is essential to promote person-centered communication about sexual health, addressing the often overlooked needs and concerns of individuals with COPD. Ultimately, the study has the potential to improve sexual health and overall well-being among individuals with COPD, contributing to a more person-centered approach in COPD care.
Liver hormones are key metabolic regulators and increased in metabolic diseases, including fatty liver disease. The underlying mechanisms driving the elevated levels are currently unknown and presents a major challenge in understanding the interplay between liver hormones and fatty liver disease. The project aims to investigate what stimulates the liver to secrete its hormones and why the secretion is increased in patients with fatty liver disease. The investigator (Associate Prof. Nicolai J Wewer Albrechtsen) will investigate the direct and indirect effects of an amino acid amino infusion on the secretion of hepatokines in individuals with and without metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease (MASLD).
The study is exploring whether, and for how long, taVNS may modulate deep muscular pressure pain thresholds, heartbeat, and thermal perception (Ethics Region Nord Jylland Denmark, N-20230022). To achieve this, 20 healthy subjects will complete a randomized, active control, crossover study. The main intervention is left concha taVNS (NEMOS, CerboMed GmbH, Erlangen, Germany) for 20 minutes (200µs duration, 20Hz, at a personalized intensity). This will be compared to an active control of identical electrical stimulation to the left earlobe. A blinding assessment inquiring which stimulation is supposed to be therapeutic will be collected. Main outcomes are pressure pain thresholds and temporal summation of pain responses acquired via cuff-pressure algometer (Cortex Technology, Aalborg University, Denmark) placed at the calf. Heartbeat perception, assessed via the heartbeat counting task, and thermal perception, assessed using a QST thermal grid, are also primary outcomes. Secondary outcomes are conditioned pain modulation, resting state electroencephalography, electrocardiography, and pupillary light reflexes.
This clinical study aims to compare the efficacy of an internet-based therapist-guided self-help intervention (named i-TREAT) in reducing eating disorder symptoms in Danish adolescents and adults with Other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders (OSFED). The study is a randomized controlled trial, comparing the intervention group, receiving i-TREAT, with an active waitlist-control group, receiving online mindfulness material. The investigators hypothesize the intervention group to be superior to the waitlist-control group in terms of 1) reducing eating disorder symptoms and 2) increasing quality of life. The internet-based intervention (i-TREAT) consists of 12 online treatment sessions. It is mainly based on Cognitive Behavior Therapy while inspired by Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. Participants are instructed to complete session-related tasks and receive written feedback from their therapist throughout the treatment. Furthermore, the intervention is also supported by text, illustrations, videos, and a chat function, allowing asynchronous text messaging with the therapist. The treatment courses are expected to run for up to 12 weeks. Participants completing the 12-week waitlist are subsequently offered the i-TREAT intervention. The investigators expect to include 63 participants in each group, who will be recruited through 1) self-referral on the project's website and 2) referral from mental health institutions and doctors.
