Articaine is an amide-linked local anesthetic, its plasma half-life is shorter than that of most other amide-type anesthetics, which makes it theoretically favorable in relation to systemic toxicity.

This study aims to investigate the drivers of postpartum contraceptive use with a prospective cohort. The study will clarify the role of contraceptive knowledge, attitudes, norms, and self-efficacy in driving intention to initiate contraception postpartum and describe the impact of environmental barriers on enacting intended postpartum contraception initiation.
The investigators propose a single site, single arm, open label mechanism of action pharmacodynamic pilot study of etonogestrel implant insertion prior to an luteinizing hormone (LH) surge. The investigators will evaluate ovulation rates via serum levels of reproductive hormones and transvaginal ultrasound findings following placement of an etonogestrel implant once the dominant follicle reaches a size of 15mm or greater, but prior to an LH surge, in persons with prior documented regular cycles and confirmed ovulation. The researchers' hypothesis is that ovulation will be inhibited if the etonogestrel implant is placed prior to an LH surge. Based on data from the Food and Drug Administration label for Nexplanon, etonogestrel rises to levels associated with ovulation suppression within 8 hours of placement. Given this rapid increase, it is therefore plausible to assume that ovulation can be inhibited by the implant if placed prior to an LH surge. This study is novel as there have been no published studies evaluating an etonogestrel implant for this indication. The contribution of this proposed research to the literature is significant because current recommendations from the Center for Disease Control (CDC) regarding timing of etonogestrel implant placement are stringent and not patient-centered. Any day insertion of the etonogestrel implant is supported by retrospective data and this pharmacodynamic data would further support the literature for any day insertion without the need for additional emergency contraception. If results support the investigators' hypothesis, it could increase access to contraception and decrease duplicative therapy.
This is a single-center, three-part, Phase 1 study to evaluate the pharmacokinetics (PK) of ENG, removability, safety, and tolerability of Casea S pellets inserted subdermally in healthy women of reproductive age. The goal is to select for further investigation a dose of Casea S that is both safe and has a PK profile consistent with contraceptive protection for at least 78 weeks.
Objective: The etonogestrel subdermal implant (ESI) is an effective and safe method of contraception. Although highly efficient, ESI produces often side effects that reduce its tolerance and acceptance. Daily oral desogestrel (DSG) prior to the insertion of ESI might help reduce its premature discontinuation. Our aim was to evaluate if this pre-treatment increases ESI's tolerance. Methods: Between 15.08.2016 and 30.09.2019, the investigators conducted a randomized prospective study of women aged 18 to 42 years who were interested to use Implanon and were willing to have 90 days of pre-treatment with DSG, in the family planning clinic of the Geneva University Hospitals and the Hospital of Basel. Women were randomized into either the study ESI only group or to the DSG + ESI group. In the DSG + ESI group, patients were given a 3 months' supply of 75µg of DSG before the insertion of the ESI. A 3 months visit was pre-programmed for all participants where the bleeding calendar and the questionnaires were collected. All patients were called over the phone after 12 months post ESI insertion in both groups.
The present work seeks an alternative to the copper IUD for contraception in breast cancer patients, evaluating the satisfaction and continuity of the copper and silver IUD, as well as the quality of life, compared to the copper IUD, especially in the regarding the menstrual bleeding pattern of these patients and possible mechanisms that justify such differences. A randomized (1:1) controlled clinical trial is proposed. Women between 18 and 45 years of age, diagnosed with breast carcinoma through histopathological study, who have had at least one vaginal sexual intercourse in life and wish to use intrauterine contraception will be included.

This study aims to investigate the microbiome of women with previously proven fertility who plan to become pregnant.
In this study, researchers want to find out more about how the Etonogestrel (ENG) contraceptive implant device (also known as Nexplanon) changes people's periods. Study subjects will self select into an exposure group- starting combined hormonal contraceptive pills (COC) on the same day as Nexplanon placement or a "delayed initiation" of COC when/if bleeding concerns develop. Patients will be followed for 12 months.
