Bioactive Versus Non-Bioactive Restorative System in Deep Carious Molars

Start date: April 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This research study delves into the effectiveness of bioactive and non-bioactive restorative systems in deep carious permanent molars treated with selective caries removal. Selective caries removal techniques aim to preserve as much healthy tooth structure as possible while effectively eliminating carious tissue. The study investigates how the choice of restorative material influences the outcomes of selective caries removal procedures in deep carious lesions. By assessing factors such as restoration integrity, pulpal response, and long-term success rates, the research seeks to provide evidence-based insights into the comparative performance of bioactive and non-bioactive restorative systems in this clinical context.

NCT ID: NCT06183021 Recruiting - Pain, Postoperative Clinical Trials

The Effect of Cryotherapy on the Outcome of Pulpotomy and Root Canal Treatment

Start date: December 13, 2023
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The goal of this randomized clinical trial is to compare the outcome of total amputation and root canal treatment with or without cryotherapy in terms of postoperative pain, quality of life, and treatment success for the management of deep dentinal caries. The main questions it aims to answer are: Does cryotherapy influence the outcome, life quality and treatment success in total pulpotomy? Does cryotherapy influence the outcome, life quality and treatment success in root canal treatment? Does the outcome of total pulpotomy and root canal treatment differ in cases of pulpitis? There are 4 experimental groups: 1. Total pulpotomy with cryotherapy group 2. Total pulpotomy group (Control 1) 3. Root canal treatment with cryotherapy group 4. Root canal treatment group (Control 2)

NCT ID: NCT06109987 Completed - Caries; Dentin Clinical Trials

Clinical Evaluation of Bulk-fill Restorative Materials

Start date: October 11, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

High-viscosity glass ionomer cements have been developed to improve the weak mechanical properties of glass ionomer cements, increase wear resistance and improve their limited indications. There are limited clinical studies on the use of high-viscosity glass ionomer cements in areas with large cavities bearing stress. The aim of this study is to compare the clinical performance of two different high-viscosity glass ionomer cements with a bulk-fill resin composite in different cavities.

NCT ID: NCT06058026 Completed - Caries; Dentin Clinical Trials

Clinical Comparison of Composite Materials

Start date: December 31, 2020
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Universal adhesive solutions have just entered the market, allowing dentists to choose an adhesive strategy based on the needs of patients and clinical situations. Theses adhesives contain a primer/adhesive resin mix in a single bottle for multi-mode etch-and-rinse or self-etch applications. The aim of this study was to evaluate the clinical performance of composite resins with diffent adesive agents on Class II cavities.

NCT ID: NCT05475145 Completed - Clinical trials for Dental Caries in Children

Sealing of Occlusal Dentin Caries in Primary Molars.

SealCar
Start date: February 2, 2015
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

BACKGROUND A simple method for arresting dentin caries with a tight seal of the cavity would exclude the need for injection and excavation, reduce the risk for dental fear and possibly postpone or eliminate the need for further treatment. AIM The aim is to evaluate success-rate and children's subjective experience of resin-based sealing (RBS) and resin-modified glass ionomer cement (GIC) for treatment of occlusal dentin caries in primary molars. DESIGN Children aged 2-9 years will be recruited to undergo RBS- or GIC-treatment treatment for occlusal dentin caries in primary molars. A parent will answer the Short Form of Children's Fear Survey (CFSS-DS; parental version). No excavation but etching with 38% phosphoric acid will precede RBS. Topical and local anaesthesia and excavation with high speed bur will precede GIC. Time for treatment will be estimated. The children will rank their experience of each treatment on a 7-grade face scale. The dentist will evaluate the child's experience, cooperation and the overall experience of the treatment on a four-grade scale. The treatment will be evaluated as "without remark" or "defective" after 3, 6, 12, 24 and 36 months. For statistical analysis the Chi-2-test, Wilcoxon-Signed-Rank-test and Paired t-test will be used.

NCT ID: NCT04818658 Completed - Dental Caries Clinical Trials

The Preformed Metal Crowns Placed Using the Hall Technique Versus the Conventional Restoration

Start date: March 8, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The aim of this study is to compare the survival rate of the conventional restorations with the Hall Technique in carious primary molars.

NCT ID: NCT04365270 Completed - Caries Clinical Trials

Antibacterial Effect and Clinical Performance of Chitosan Modified Glass Ionomer

Start date: January 15, 2019
Phase: Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

The study is a randomized clinical trial that assesses the clinical success and the antibacterial effect on carious dentine of glass ionomer when modified with Chitosan and/or Titanium dioxide nano particles vs the control group of modification with Chlorhexidine as control when used in primary molars

NCT ID: NCT04255251 Recruiting - Caries; Dentin Clinical Trials

Effectiveness Silver Diamine Fluoride Versus Sodium Fluoride in Arresting Caries Around Crown Margins in Older Adults

Start date: June 26, 2021
Phase: Early Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

Dental caries is a multifactorial, progressive disease which is the major causes of dental pain, infection and tooth loss. Dental caries can substantially compromise the quality of life in older adults 1 2. As the number of older adults in the US increases, the dental professionals have become increasingly concerned with the dental need of elderly and preventive regimes to reduce the incidence of caries3 . Prevention becomes an area of paramount importance. Many studies have advocated nonsurgical intervention for shallow dentin caries lesion. The most effective method for prevention to date is considered to be fluoride. In the United states fluoride has been incorporated in many ways like water fluoridation, fluoride mouth wash, dentifrices and professionally applied fluoride varnishes . The American Dental Association (ADA) recommended the use of fluoride for patients of all ages who are at risk of developing dental caries7 . With the high success of fluoride, another treatment method using Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is gaining popularity in the United States. SDF has been used in many countries like Japan, Australia, China, and Cuba for treatment of caries . Successful treatment data from other countries is promising, and promoting the use of SDF in the United States. SDF is available in the United States as 38% aqueous solution and approved as a desensitizing agent. American Dental Association published an evidence-based clinical practice guideline on nonrestorative treatments for caries teeth and recommended use of SDF on a carious cavitated lesion on permanent teeth9 . Clinical studies have shown the effectiveness of SDF in arresting root caries in older adults.

Absence of Liner Following the Selective Caries Removal (ALFSCaRe)

(ALFSCaRe)
Start date: June 30, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This randomized, multi-centric, controlled clinical trial will assess the effectiveness of a simplified restorative protocol used after the selective carious tissue removal in posterior teeth presenting deep carious lesions. Only a regular bulk-fill composite will be used in the simplified restorative protocol following the application of universal adhesive. A liner with resin-modified glass ionomer will be used over the pulpal floor before the composite placement in the control group. The longevity of restorative procedures and post-operative sensitivity were defined as the main and secondary outcomes.
