Photodynamic Therapy Using HPPH in Treating Patients With Advanced Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer That Blocks the Air Passages

RATIONALE: Photodynamic therapy uses a drug, such as HPPH, that becomes active when it is exposed to a certain kind of light. When the drug is active, tumor cells are killed. This may be an effective treatment for advanced non-small cell lung cancer that blocks the air passages. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well photodynamic therapy using HPPH works in treating patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer that blocks the air passages.

Carboplatin, Paclitaxel, Selenomethionine, and Radiation Therapy in Treating Patients With Stage III Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer That Cannot Be Removed by Surgery

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as carboplatin and paclitaxel, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Selenomethionine may slow the growth of tumor cells. Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Giving combination chemotherapy together with selenomethionine and radiation therapy may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying the side effects and how well selenomethionine works when given together with carboplatin, paclitaxel, and radiation therapy in treating patients with stage III non-small cell lung cancer that cannot be removed by surgery.

Clinical Trial of the Safety and Effectiveness of CHR-2797 With Erlotinib in Patients With Locally Advanced or Metastatic Non-small Cell Lung Cancer

This is an open-label, multicenter, multiple-dose, Phase I-II study of CHR-2797 co-administered with erlotinib in patients with histologically or pathologically confirmed Stage IIIB (with pleural effusion), Stage IV, or recurrent metastatic NSCLC. Throughout this protocol, "study medication" includes both CHR-2797 and erlotinib. This study will involve 2 distinct study phases. Study Phase A will assess safety and determine the MTD of the combination of CHR-2797 and erlotinib. In addition, PK profiles for the combination of CHR-2797 and erlotinib will be evaluated. In Study Phase B, the dose chosen based on the maximum tolerated dose established in Study Phase A will be administered in a single-arm treatment design in order to evaluate the efficacy of co-administration of CHR-2797 and erlotinib.

PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well celecoxib given together with docetaxel or pemetrexed works in treating patients with advanced or recurrent non-small cell lung cancer.

Ph II of Vinflunine and Cetuximab in Second Line Treatment of NSCLC

RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as vinflunine, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Monoclonal antibodies, such as cetuximab, can block tumor growth in different ways. Some find tumor cells and help kill them or carry tumor-killing substances to them. Others interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Giving vinflunine together with cetuximab may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase II trial is studying how well giving vinflunine together with cetuximab works as second-line therapy in treating patients with stage IIIB or stage IV non-small cell lung cancer.

Study to Evaluate Combination Treatment of MGCD0103 and Docetaxel (Taxotere®) for Subjects With Advanced Cancer Tumors

The purpose of this study is to test the combination of an experimental drug known as MGCD0103 given along with an FDA-approved drug called docetaxel. This is a Phase 1 study that will look at different doses of MGCD0103 given along with docetaxel in order to better understand the effects (positive and negative) of this combination on the subject's body and disease. The study would like to find the following information: - How long MGCD0103 and docetaxel stay in the subject's body; - What effects, good and/or bad, MGCD0103 and docetaxel have on the subject and on his/her cancer; and - If the genetic and chemical make-up of the subject's blood cells and tumor cells play a role in how you respond or do not respond to MGCD0103 and docetaxel.

Study Using a Genomic Predictor of Platinum Resistance to Guide Therapy in Stage IIIB/IV Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer

In this trial, subjects with chemo-naive advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) were assigned to chemotherapy using a genomic-based predictor for platinum sensitivity. After an amendment dated 1/25/2010, subjects with squamous cell NSCLC sensitive to cisplatin received cisplatin/gemcitabine and if resistant to cisplatin received docetaxel/gemcitabine. Subjects with non-squamous cell NSCLC sensitive to cisplatin received cisplatin/pemetrexed and if resistant to cisplatin received pemetrexed/gemcitabine. The primary objective of this trial was to prospectively validate the genomic-based prediction model through separate evaluation of the one-year progression-free survival (PFS) of the cisplatin-sensitive and cisplatin-resistant cohorts. Secondary objectives included: assessment of overall time to progressive disease, quality of life and evaluation of drug sensitivity patterns of cisplatin and pemetrexed.

Phase I/II of Oral Vorinostat Combination With Erlotinib in NSCLC Patients With EGFR Mutations With DP After Erlotinib.

This is an open label, non-randomized, sequential, phase I/II trial in patients with stage IIIB or IV non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) with EGFR mutations after progression to Erlotinib. The study will have two parts. The first part (phase I) will be a dose finding (MTD) study to be implemented at three hospitals. The second part of the study (phase II) will asses the safety and efficacy of the combination. In this second part (phase II) patients will be treated with oral Erlotinib 150 mg P.O daily plus oral Vorinostat administered according to the results of the phase I. The study endpoints to be evaluated will include safety and response rate (RR) as primary endpoints and clinical benefit rate (CBR), time to progression, time to response, response duration and progression free survival as secondary endpoints. All the patients (phase I and II) will be treated until progression disease, unacceptable toxicity or withdrawal of the consent, and will be treated at the discretion of the principal investigator.
