Filter by:This study aimed to evaluate the effect of botulinum toxin type A (BTX-A) injection on masticatory performance and nutritional status in temporomandibular disorder patients with bruxism caused by both intra-articular and extra-articular pathologies based on Research Diagnostic Criteria for temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The baseline and end masticatory performance, pain intensity, nutrition and anxiety statuses, and anthropometric measurements will be compared.
The main purpose of this planned research is to investigate the effectiveness of three different methods used for the treatment of bruxism. Two of these are physiotherapy-specific exercise treatment protocols (1.posture and proprioception exercises 2. Jaw area strengthening exercises) and a control group, (occlusal splint therapy) will take place during the study.
Objectives: To compare the effects of cervical manipulation on the ranges of motion of mouth opening and painful pressure points in the masseter and temporal muscles after of cervical manipulation compared to the control group. Material and methods: Single-blind randomized clinical trial with two arms, one group intervention and a control group. Hypothesis: There is a significant difference in mouth opening and painful pressure points between the intervention group and the control group. Expected results: The intervention group would significantly increase their mouth opening maximal and decrease pressure pain in the masseter and temporalis muscles.

The aims of this study were to determine the relationship between sleep bruxism, oral habits, and sleep habits and establish treatment approaches in children.
Excess consumption of refined sugar and increased use of recreational screen time are risk factors for alterations in the quality of life that have been associated with sleep bruxism in children and that compromise the same mechanisms of alteration of the reward system in the brain. Therefore, the question of this research is: What is the effect of the Intervention "Food, Fun and Family (FFF)" on the frequency of sleep bruxism in children? The general objective of the research is to evaluate the effect of the Intervention "Food, Fun and Family (FFF)" on the frequency of sleep bruxism in 84 children who attend the pediatric dentistry postgraduate clinic of the CES University and the private consultation Dr. Claudia Restrepo and Dr. Adriana Santamaría. The frequency of sleep bruxism will be evaluated with the translated and validated Spanish version of the Children's Sleep Habits Questionnaire (CSHQ), which will be answered by the parents. The consumption of added sugar will be evaluated with the version translated into Spanish of the Health Behavior in School-Aged Children - Food-Frequency Questionnaire (HBSC-FFQ). The time on screens will be recorded through the parents' report, of the time in hours that the child spends using electronic media in a recreational way each weekday for a week and each weekend day for a week. A decrease in the frequency of sleep bruxism is expected to be found by reducing sugar consumption and screen time in the children evaluated. The results of this study will be presented at the IADR, ACFO, ACOP and CES University research meetings and will be published in a peer-reviewed scientific journal in category Q1.
Background: The objective of this study will be to evaluate the effect of Intravascular Irradiation of Blood (ILIB) combined with myofunctional exercises for sleep bruxism in pediatrics. Methods: This study will be a randomized controlled clinical trial. A triage of individuals between 4 and 17 years old with a diagnosis of sleep bruxism will be carried out at the clinic of the Catholic University of Uruguay, and in a private office referred by different private care centers. The selected participants will be evaluated before and after treatment by means of questionnaires on bruxism, sleep quality and nocturnal oxygen saturation measurement. For this, 46 patients with sleep bruxism will be recruited, who will be divided into 2 groups: control group (CG), which will undergo an application of placebo ILIB and an orofacial myofunctional therapy (MFT) exercise protocol; and na ILIB group, which will carry out an active application of ILIB and an exercise protocol, this being once a week for 8 weeks. The laser treatment (808 nm) will be performed twice a week for 8 weeks. The values will be tested for normality by the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. For the comparison between the groups, T-test will be carried out, considering a level of significance of 0.5% (p<0.05). Discussion: Although local photobiomodulation (PBM), acupuncture PBM and physiotherapy have been studied in the treatment of bruxism, this is the first study to evaluate the effect of ILIB combined with myofunctional exercises for sleep bruxism in pediatrics.
The aim of the study is to evaluate and analyze the rates and relationships between bruxism, other parafunctional oral activities, and oral-motor activities in children and adolescents with spastic CP.
Research Problem: To know the immediate effects of high speed and low amplitude cervical manipulation on the electromyographic activity of the masseter muscles of physiotherapy students at the University of the Americas Course objective: To compare the immediate effects of high-speed, low-amplitude cervical manipulation on the electromyographic activity of the masseter muscles versus a placebo intervention in kinesiology students at the University of the Americas. Specific objectives: To describe the changes in the electromyographic activity of the masseter muscles of the high-speed cervical manipulation group in students of the physiotherapy school of the University of the Americas of the Santiago Centro campus. To describe the changes in the electromyographic activity of the masseter muscles of the placebo group in students of the physiotherapy school of the University of the Americas of the Santiago Centro campus. Methodology: Single-blind, randomized clinical trial. Expected results: Significant differences are expected between the intervention group and the control group. This is reflected in a decrease in electromyographic activity in the masseter muscles after high-speed cervical manipulation.
Implant rehabilitation is a successful treatment option for edentulous patients. Decreasing bone loss around implants is an important target for all implantologists. It has been shown that pathological forces, such as bruxism, may in fact result in bone loss and eventual implant failure. Botilinium Toxin is a material of many clinical uses. Beside its cosmetic applications, it has been used in the treatment of masseter muscle hypertrophy. Purpose: To investigate the effect of botilinium toxin injection on biting forces, and its ultimate effect on peri-implant bone changes.
