NCT ID: NCT05998837 Recruiting - Hypertension Clinical Trials

GLUcose Transport and REnalPROtection in Chronic Kidney Disease

GLUTREPRO
Start date: April 13, 2021
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

This is a single-center, double blind, randomized, parallel-arms study designed to investigate the effects of a six-month treatment with the SGLT2i dapagliflozin on markers of kidney senescence, inflammation and tubulointerstitial damage compared to placebo. These mechanisms of renal damage will be investigated in proximal tubular epithelial cells (PTECs) isolated from urine from patients with CKD with or without T2DM and in renal biopsy specimens in a subgroup of patients with diabetic kidney disease.

NCT ID: NCT04322981 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Hepatitis C Virus Infection

Pharmacist-led Hepatitis C Management

PHARM-C
Start date: April 13, 2022
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) continues to disproportionately affect vulnerable and marginalized persons in Canada. During the interferon treatment era, certain circumstances precluded individuals from receiving treatment, most notably mental health concerns or active substance use. In addition to the tolerability and efficacy of all-oral direct acting antivirals (DAAs), novel diagnostic strategies have also increased engagement in the care cascade. Point-of care and/or dried blood spot antibody as well as RNA testing allow for diagnosis without the need for phlebotomy, a major barrier for those with a history of past or current injection drug use. Despite these advances in diagnostic streamlining and increased cure rates, engagement post-diagnosis continues to be a major gap. Although the exact mechanism of HCV acquisition may not be clear - people who inject drugs, persons who are street-involved or low-income, or persons who are difficult-to-reach for other reasons, often experience both structural and geographic challenges to obtaining care. Community pharmacists may be the first point of contact for higher risk populations and may avoid testing and/or treatment for fear of judgement or poor treatment in hospital/specialist settings. While studies have demonstrated the feasibility of treating people receiving opioid against therapy (OAT), it remains unclear whether Canadian pharmacists can safely and effectively screen, and/or confirm HCV, work-up patients for HCV treatment, and prescribe with minimal oversight. If this model proves successful, it may have global utility especially in areas of the world where pharmacists are the initial point of contact for healthcare issues. The aim of this study is to determine whether being tested and linked care and treatment will be more effective in a community pharmacy than a referral to a tertiary care hospital for management of HCV among people on stable OAT, or other populations who experience barriers to care but use community pharmacy services.

NCT ID: NCT04323449 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Spinal Cord Injury/Disorder

Evaluation of Vision-Guided Shared Control for Assistive Robotics Manipulators

ARM Control
Start date: April 13, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate a new control (i.e., the vision-guided shared control) for a wheelchair-mounted assistive robotic manipulator among powered wheelchair users. This study will consist of a questionnaire about general demographics, health information, and previous experience with assistive technology. Several tests will also be administered to test upper extremity function and ability as well as to test spatial orientation and visualization ability. Participants till then undergo a training phase with the assistive robotic manipulator mounted on a table to assess if they will be eligible for participation in the study. Eligible participants will move on to a second training phase where they will be asked to learn and practice slightly more complex tasks while using the vision-guided shared controller. After this training the assistive robotic manipulator will be mounted to the participants wheelchair and they will be asked to complete a number of everyday tasks from a task list. At the conclusion of the study, researchers will conduct a brief semi-structured interview with each participant and obtain more insight on how participants perceive the ease-of-use and usefulness of the vision-guided shared control.

NCT ID: NCT04472169 Recruiting - Hemophilia A Clinical Trials

UPLC-MS/MS Monitoring of Emicizumab Therapy

EMICARE
Start date: April 13, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Emicizumab is a monoclonal bispecific antibody with a terminal half-life of 28 days which is now licensed in the treatment of severe haemophilia A with or without inhibitors. Some heterogeneity in residual emicizumab concentrations have been reported according to age, body mass index or drug therapeutic regimen. Some cases of neutralizing antidrug antibodies have been also reported. Whether monitoring emicizumab plasma concentration could predict the residual bleeding risk under emicizumab is unknown. As conventional coagulation assays are not adapted for emicizumab monitoring, this study aims to assess the value of monitoring residual emicizumab plasma concentration by UPLC-MS/MS in bleeding risk prediction.

NCT ID: NCT04829175 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Pelvic Organ Prolapse

Ethicon Pelvic Mesh Post Market Clinical Follow-up Registry

Start date: April 13, 2022
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The objective of this post market, clinical registry is to evaluate the performance of the products of the TVT family of products or vaginal vault or uterine prolapse repair (with laparotomic or laparoscopic approach including robotic assisted) using either Gynemesh PS Mesh or Artisyn Mesh in women undergoing surgery for SUI and POP.

NCT ID: NCT04954742 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Chronic Thromboembolic Pulmonary Hypertension

Start date: April 13, 2022
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

This is an open-label, single-armed, prospective single-centre clinical study to evaluate the effect of riociguat on right heart size and function in patients with manifest PAH and CTEPH.

NCT ID: NCT05124301 Recruiting - Basic Science Clinical Trials

Neural Basis of Sensory and Motor Learning: Functional Connections

Start date: April 13, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to understand how the sensory and motor areas of the brain work together to keep a person's hand movements accurate (sensorimotor learning). The investigators hope this information may be useful one day to improve rehabilitation techniques in patients with brain lesions.

NCT ID: NCT05135351 Recruiting - Multiple Myeloma Clinical Trials

Study Using Prebiotics to Improve Gut Microbiome Diversity After Autologous Stem Cell Transplantation

Start date: April 13, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Higher gut microbiome diversity has been associated with improved survival following autologous stem cell transplantation in multiple myeloma and lymphoma. This study hypothesises that prebiotic supplementation with resistant starch (RS) will improve gut microbiome diversity at time of stem cell engraftment. To test this, participants will either have RS or a placebo (maltodextrin) mixed into a food item of their choice for approximately 10 days prior to stem cell infusion and continue to the first day of neutrophil engraftment. The study will look at the difference in gut microbiome diversity between the RS and placebo arm collected at the engraftment timepoint, dietary evaluation to assess the impact of subject diet on microbiome response to intervention and serum sample collection to assess differences to gut permeability during transplant.
