NCT ID: NCT02992795 Completed - Clinical trials for Concussion, Intermediate

Unblinded Data Collection Study of Concussion Using BrainPulse

Start date: November 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This is a prospective, non-blinded, matched control study of young athletes (ages 10-28 years old) in collegiate sports. The cohorts are defined in accordance to the athlete's exposure of injury. All subjects will complete a minimum of one recording based on their assigned cohort. Concussed athletes will complete an additional 3 weeks of follow-up recordings post injury. The symptomatic evaluation, physical examination, neurological baseline testing, and BrainPulse recordings will be entered in a database to determine clinical outcome and assess device utilization.

NCT ID: NCT02992327 Completed - Concussion, Mild Clinical Trials

Biomarker Levels as A Predictor of Concussion Severity OUTcomes (BlacOut)

BlacOut
Start date: August 30, 2015
Phase:
Study type: Observational

The overall research aim of this pilot study is to determine if the structural brain protein calpain-cleaved αII-spectrin N-terminal fragment (SNTF) can be used as a blood biomarker to accurately identify patients who will have more severe symptoms and reduced neurocognitive functioning after sustaining a concussion. Concussion is also referred to as mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) in the literature. Both terms will be used interchangeably throughout this application.

NCT ID: NCT02988596 Completed - Concussion, Brain Clinical Trials

Role of Rehabilitation in Concussion Management: A Randomized Controlled Trial

Start date: January 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Approximately 420 professional and amateur athletes will participate in rehabilitation during recovery after sports-related concussion. Participants will be cluster randomized, by study site, to a specific study arm. Participants will complete post-injury assessments and the intervention of their randomized group aimed at understanding the effects of a multidimensional rehabilitation protocol versus enhanced graded exertion on clinical recovery, return to play, and patient outcomes after sport related concussion

NCT ID: NCT02977728 Completed - Clinical trials for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Olfactory Function in Patients With Acute Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Start date: January 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

In this project the investigators aim to evaluate olfactory and non-olfactory function in patients within the first 24h following a mild traumatic brain injury (acute mTBI) and compare their results to a group of age and sex matched control patients suffering from an orthopedic injury 24h prior to testing. The investigators then aim to follow them up 1 year after the trauma

NCT ID: NCT02959216 Completed - Clinical trials for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Aerobic Exercise for Concussion

Start date: July 23, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The use of aerobic exercise treatment in the chronic phase of concussion recovery is well-described in the literature but there are limited existing data on the effect of exercise treatment in the acute phase after sport-related concussion (SRC). This study will compare the outcomes of adolescents with a recent SRC who are randomized to sub-threshold aerobic exercise versus those randomized to placebo stretching to evaluate the effect of aerobic exercise in the acute recovery phase.

NCT ID: NCT02957461 Completed - Clinical trials for Brain Injuries, Traumatic

Validation of Brain Function Assessment Algorithm for mTBI/Concussion in College Athletes

CASVAL
Start date: February 3, 2017
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study is Part 1 of data collection from 18-25 years old subject population for validation of previously derived algorithms. This data will be combined with that collected under NCT03671083 (Part 2 with subject age range 13-25 years) for the final analyses of validation of the algorithms.

NCT ID: NCT02922569 Completed - Clinical trials for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Home-Based, Online, Mindfulness and Cognitive Training for Soldiers and Veterans With TBI

CogMind
Start date: March 31, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This study is a parallel arm, double-blind, randomized, controlled clinical trial to assess the safety and efficacy of an experimental software program designed to improve cognitive functions versus a computer-based software control. Both the study and the software being investigated meet the criteria of Non-Significant Risk.

NCT ID: NCT02872480 Completed - Cerebral Concussion Clinical Trials

Acute Concussion Therapy Intervention Training in Healthy and Concussed Participants

ACTIVE
Start date: August 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Healthy (non-injured) and concussed college-aged participants will complete two testing sessions that include (1) clinical symptom, balance, and cognitive evaluations and (2) a progressive exercise session to establish symptom exacerbation or maximal exercise capacity. Individuals randomized to the control group will receive no intervention between sessions, while individuals randomized to the intervention group will complete 30 minutes of stationary bike exercise at least 3 days/week.

NCT ID: NCT02868684 Completed - Clinical trials for Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Imaging Biomarkers of Mild Traumatic Brain Injury: a Longitudinal Cohort Study

Start date: August 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This longitudinal cohort study aims to detect the topographical nature of the white matter microstructure and resting state functional connectivity patterns across the whole brain in the evolution of pathology as a function of time following mild TBI. All consecutively patients with the non-contrast head CT because of acute head trauma from the local emergency department (ED) formed the initial population of this study. Age, sex, education-level matched healthy controls will also be enrolled. The initial scan will performed within 7 days post-injury. Clinical assessment was performed within 24 hours of MR imaging and included a broad neuropsychological and symptom assessments. Follow-up examination will conduct at 1 month, 3 month, 6-12 months.

NCT ID: NCT02868671 Completed - Clinical trials for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury

Acupuncture for Mild Traumatic Brain Injury:A Functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging Study

Start date: August 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The overall goal of this study is to examine if acupuncture intervention can reduce the post-concussion symptom (PCS), and affective and cognitive complaints among mild traumatic brain injury (TBI). This study also hypothesized that compared to those in the sham acupuncture and waiting list control groups, patients in the real acupuncture group will have fewer symptoms of depression, sleep problems and post-concussion symptoms.
