In the Slovenian (pair of European Union) adult population (with only 2 million inhabitants), we do not yet have representative data on the body composition of adult Slovenes published in the scientific literature. In the study after the Covid-19 pandemic period (4th wave) the investigators will use medically approved body analyzer (Tanita 780 S MA, Tokyo, Japan) and standardized food frequency questionnaire (FFQ). In addition, the investigators will measured body height of the participants with a portable altimeter (ADE MZ10042, Germany). The research will include randomly recruited adults (participants) who will attend various free or/and paid publicly available seminars, congresses and fairs in Slovenia, directly unrelated topics to physical activity or healthy eating (i.e., healthy and active lifestyle) thus obtaining a more realistic current population status.
Many athletes and military personnel desire weight gain primarily as lean mass to improve performance and effectiveness in military/sport endeavors. While much is known about the energy restriction required to reduce body weight, very little is understood about energy and macronutrients needed to promote healthy gains in body weight and lean mass. Typically, athletes are encouraged to increase calorie intake by ~500 kcal/day with an emphasis on adequate protein and carbohydrate, and judicious inclusion of healthy fat-containing calorically-dense foods, including peanuts and peanut butter. This study proposes to evaluate the effect of a 10-week diet and exercise regimen designed to promote healthy weight gain. This will include increasing energy intake by 500 additional kcal/day (above weight maintenance diet) through daily provision of either peanut-based whole foods/snacks (peanut group) or a similar, high-carbohydrate, peanut-free snack (control group) along with a supervised strength training regimen. Results will serve as an important first step in helping understand the gaps in knowledge related to healthy weight gain, designing better weight gain meal plans, not only in athletes and military personnel, but also in clinical populations where promotion of weight gain is advocated.
Obesity and related disorders such as type 2 diabetes are a worldwide diet-related problem. As such new treatment options are constantly being developed. Bacteria living in the gut seem to be a key player in the treatment of obesity and related metabolic diseases by influencing energy balance and the immune system. In terms of newly identified bacteria species, Akkermansia muciniphila (A. muciniphila) has been found to be related to obesity. Several animal studies have shown the beneficial impact of A. muciniphila on the treatment of body weight as well as insulin sensitivity. The growth requirements of live A. muciniphila as well as its oxygen sensitivity rendered this bacterium unsuitable for human investigations or putative therapeutic opportunities. Therefore, pasteurization, a mild heating method, and its impact on diet-induced metabolic disorders in mice were investigated. Unexpectedly, this method of inactivation did not negate the effect of A. muciniphila, but improved its beneficial metabolic effects. Pilot studies have provided further evidence that pasteurization of A. muciniphila is safe for human use and has the potential to beneficially affect the control of body weight and glucose metabolism. In this project, The investigators hypothesize that pasteurized A. muciniphila will be superior to placebo intervention in maintaining body weight after a phase of weight loss (low caloric diet) in adult participants with overweight or obesity.
This is a RCT study examining whether odor administration to mothers of very low birth weight infants promotes stabilization of vital signs compared with common nursing care. This study used breast milk olfactory stimuli familiar and liked by premature infants to understand the effects of olfactory stimuli on the physiological indicators of very low birth weight infants, the effect on the time of complete enteral nutrition, and the effects on growth and development of very low birth weight infants.
To determine the effect of Neurodevelopment Treatment vs Body Weight Supported Treadmill Training along with conventional therapy on lower extremity among chronic stroke patients.
Obesity is considered the epidemic of the 21st century. Obesity is a multifactorial disease and the most important risk factors are poor diet and sedentary lifestyle. An excessive body weight contributes to increase the risk of suffering from other diseases and mortality rates. Therefore, the prevention and control of excessive body weight as well as its comorbidities are essential. In this sense, the principal strategy to treat obesity is to improve dietary habits and increase physical activity. However, the rate of obesity continues rising. In order to deal with this problem, new strategies to combat obesity are being investigated, such as the investigation of new bioactive compounds with satiating capacity that can be included in healthy dietary patterns to improve adherence to dietary treatments. Considering this background, the main objective of this research is to assess the effect of daily consumption of protein rich bars accompanied by healthy dietary recommendations on weight loss of overweight/obese adult men and women.
Ultrasound measurement of cross sectional area of umbilical cord might offer advantage over Hadlock's formula for accurate estimation of actual birth weight at term gestation leading to prevention of large number of maternal and neonatal morbidity and mortality.
To explore the effects of Partial Body Weight Support (PBWS) within an enriched play environment for infants with Down Syndrome (DS), who are not yet walking, to better understand how PWBS may impact their mobility; exploration; and overall activity level. - Hypothesis1 A: Infants will demonstrate increased movement counts on an ActiGraph during intervention compared to a control phase. Hypothesis 1B: Infants will demonstrate a higher frequency of exploratory behaviors during the intervention as compared to a control phase. - Hypothesis 2: Infants will demonstrate an increased rate of improvement in Gross Motor Function Measure scores after the intervention compared to a control phase. - Hypothesis 3: Infants will demonstrate higher parent-reported mastery motivation on the Dimensions of Mastery Questionnaire after the intervention compared to a control phase.
This clinical study evaluates the acute effect of glycerol ingestion on performance (power output), weight, urine specific gravity, biochemical (antioxidants and lactate) and metabolic (indirect calorimetry) markers in international athletes in hot conditions. The investigators hypothesized that acute glycerol ingestion can prevent performance loss (power generated at submaximal intensity) in hot conditions. To justify this hypothesis, the investigators will measure the aforementioned markers, which could establish a cause-effect relationship between acute glycerol intake and decreased performance loss in hot conditions.
Summary Introduction: Falls are involuntary events that cause loss of balance and hit the body on the ground or on another firm surface that stops it. 40% of people with various neurological disorders fall one or more times, and of all these, 21% suffer a fall-related injury. Objective and instrumented gait analysis is an important tool for estimating the risk of falls in patients. Objective: To describe the protocols used by physical therapist residing in Argentina when categorizing a balance problem within the framework of neurorehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, geriatrics and gerontology. Identify the barriers and facilitators self-perceived by physical therapist that make it difficult to weight deficiencies in balance. Method: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional study of the online survey type will be carried out. The recommendations given by the Checklist for Reporting of Survey Studies will be used. The survey, which was created by the researchers of this study, will consist of 26 items divided into 4 sections. It will be aimed at all those physical therapist in Argentina who are dedicated to neurorehabilitation, vestibular rehabilitation, geriatrics and gerontology. The type of sampling used will be non-probabilistic by snowball, which will be done online through the SurveyMonkeyTM tool.
