The Setting and Effect Evaluation of QT in NICU

In order to create a better environment for growth and development for very low birth weight infants(VLBWIs), investigators introduce quiet time, which is an intervention method that reduces environmental noise in the ward and centralizes medical and nursing operations. By analyzing the weight gain of VLBWIs in the intervention group and the control group during hospitalization, the effect of setting a quiet time in the NICU on improving the growth and development of VLBWIs is evaluated.

Twenty-year Follow-up of the Inter99 Cohort

Being born small increases your risk of developing Type 2 diabetes (T2D) with age. Furthermore, data even suggest that some of the diseases ("complications") in the eyes, kidneys, nerves, liver, blood vessels and heart often seen in T2D patients may not only be due to high blood sugar levels, but rather they to some extent are due to reduced growth in your mother´s womb. The Inter99 cohort included 6784 Danish citizens aged 30 to 60 years when established 20 years ago. Data from the Inter99 cohort showed a strong role of low birth weight (LBW) on T2D risk. The aim is now to reexamine risk of T2D and complications in all the alive 6004 elderly Inter99 participants. Importantly, today there are available techniques to perform detailed examinations for even the earliest signs of complications in both subjects with and without diabetes, and the results of this study will altogether provide important new insights into both the origin and classification of T2D and associated complications. It is hypothesized that being born with lower birth weights increases the adult risk of T2D and heart disease and associated complications in the large and smaller blood vessels.

Maternal diet during pregnancy has been linked to offspring allergy risk, so it represents a potential target for allergy prevention. The Mediterranean Diet (MD) is considered one of the healthiest dietary models which exerts regulatory effects on immune system, due to the synergistic and interactive combinations of nutrients. We aim to study the effects of MD in pregnancy on the onset of allergic diseases at 2 years of age in the offspring.

Multiple Micronutrient Supplementation (MMS) Evaluation Among Bangladeshi Pregnant Women

Maternal nutrition profoundly affects foetal growth, development, and subsequent infant birth weight. Babies with low birth weight (LBW) have an elevated risk of death in infancy and later childhood. A recent systematic review revealed that multiple micronutrient supplementations (MMS) could reduce the risk of LBW by 13% in comparison with iron and folic acid (IFA). Based on this newer evidence, the World Health Organization (WHO) recommended MMS during a pregnancy instead of IFA, with consideration of the country context-specific research. However, little progress is being achieved in ensuring adequate MMS coverage to improve pregnancy outcomes. Based on the WHO recommendation, CIFF awarded the Social Marketing Company (SMC) to set up a sustainable business model with affordable and quality MMS to pregnant women in Bangladesh over a period of 5 years through SMC's pharmacy networks. The investigators propose to develop an evaluation design including both process and outcome evaluation to evaluate the implementation and effect of the MMS by the SMC in Bangladesh. The evaluation study will comprise both process and outcome evaluation, complementing each other. The design will be a quasi-experimental cluster-based open cohort, two-arm, mixed-methods design. The evaluation would take place in 5 divisions of Bangladesh.
