Filter by:Low birth weight (LBW) infant (1800-2449 gram) will be given the new human milk fortifier (HMF) which contains protein, lipid, carbohydrate and micronutrients after discharge. Human Milk Fortifier or placebo (carbohydrate only with similar calorie content) will be provided until 3 months of age. The investigators want to evaluate if the addition of HMF to mother's milk while breastfeeding LBW infants after discharge influences growth and body composition up to 3 months of age.
This is an unblinded, randomized, controlled, crossover (AB/BA) trial of surfactant treatment with LISA vs. INSURE in a manikin simulating an extremely low birth weight infant. Participants will be level III NICU consultants and residents. Randomization will be performed using a computer-generated random assignment list. The primary outcome measure will be the total time of device positioning. The secondary outcomes will be the success of the first and the participant's satisfaction.
The product innovation is a wearable device that (combined with a smartphone and back-end analytics system) acts as a sensor, processor and actuator, and is therefore designed to identify critical parameters (Kangaroo Mother Care adherence and temperature of neonate on a 24/7 basis and temperature of mother during these episodes), make intelligent and early diagnosis of (persistent or impending) neonatal hypothermia, maternal/neonatal fever and non-adherence to Kangaroo Mother Care and then trigger audio or visual alerts (via the wearable or smart-mobile phone) for action by the care-giver or front-line healthcare worker to enhance Kangaroo Mother Care duration or referral to a health facility as needed.
The objective of this randomized clinical trial will determine the effectiveness of nursing intervention (Kangaroo Baby Massage) on the interaction between mothers and premature, low birth weight infants at home The dyad mother- infant of the control group will receive Kangaroo position KP and the dyad mother- infant mothers of the intervention group will receive the Kangaroo Baby Massage KBM
In this pilot study, the investigator team aims to evaluate whether standardized prone positioning compared to usual positioning improves moderate to severe bronchopulmonary dysplasia (BPD) rates as assessed at 36 weeks post conceptional age in very low birth weight preterm infants with bronchopulmonary dysplasia.
Primary Aim: The aim of this study is to investigate the efficacy of bovine colostrum in prevention of necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) and sepsis in very low birth weight (VLBW) infants. Secondary Aim: To improve outcomes of neonatal sepsis and NEC in the pe-terrms and to decrease their hospital stay.
Introduction: Low birthweight (LBW) is associated with a wide range of short- and long-term consequences and is related to a complex set of maternal psychosocial and behavioural determinants. The objective of this study is to assess the effect of implementing fast-track referral for early intervention on psychosocial and behavioural risk factors - smoking, alcohol consumption, depression and interpersonal violence - on reducing the incidence of LBW. Methods and analysis: Parallel superiority pragmatic clinical trial randomized by clusters. Primary health care units (PHCU) located in Portugal will be randomized (1:1) to intervention or control groups. Pregnant women over 14 years of age attending these PHCU will be eligible to the study. Risk factors will be assessed through face-to-face interviews. In the intervention group, women who report at least one risk factor will have immediate access to referral services. The comparison group will be the local standard of care for these risk factors. The investigators will use intention-to-treat analyses to compare intervention and control groups. A sample size of 2,832 pregnant women was estimated to detect a 30% reduction in the incidence rate of LBW (primary outcome) between the control and intervention groups. Secondary outcomes are the reduction of preterm births and reduction of risk factors targeted by the intervention.
Extremely premature children benefit from specific follow-up that requires high nutritional intake and the use of specific therapies that expose them to the risk of nephrocalcinosis. Other identified risk factors are extreme prematurity and intrauterine growth restriction. The incidence of nephrocalcinosis in very premature infants is unclear, ranging from 7 to 64%. Most studies are observational and only few case-control studies can properly analyse the risk factors for nephrocalcinosis in significant populations that include only preterm infants. This nephrocalcinosis of prematurity regresses spontaneously in more than half of the cases, but has been associated with a risk of long-term complications: impaired renal function, high blood pressure, etc. This is an aggravating factor in the context of prematurity, which has been associated with an increased risk of renal impairment and hypertension in childhood and adulthood. For all these reasons, nutritional intakes and therapeutics are monitored very closely and a renal ultrasound is routinely performed at discharge at 35 weeks of corrected gestational age in all children who are born at a gestational age ≤ 32 weeks and/or birth weight ≤ 1500 g.
This study is an evaluation of the Fresh Rx: Nourishing Healthy Starts program administered by Operation Food Search, a St. Louis-based nonprofit organization. The program provides food and nutrition supports to food insecure pregnant women in conjunction with integrative care services in order to improve health and birth outcomes for both the mother and the child. The purpose of this study is to test the efficacy of this approach through a field experiment, and to assess the extent to which these services can provide cost savings to the healthcare system.
This study is conducted to assess the role of pregnant women's daily mobility living in the Eurometropole of Strasbourg in a context of the existence of environmental exposure disparities (PM10, PM2.5, NO2). Furthermore, this study will tend to identify the critical windows of exposure and of greater risk of the adverse pregnancy outcomes as low birth weight and prematurity. A second question addressed in this work is to assess the relationship between the pregnant women's socio-economic status and the air pollution exposure (PM10, PM2.5, NO2).taking into account the spatio-temporal variations of the exposure as well as the critical windows of exposure during pregnancy. The present work deals with the following question "how does the combination of environmental exposure, socio-economic status and women's daily mobility, could contribute to socio-spatial inequalities in the health of the newborn? The underlying hypothesis is that the accumulation, in given area, of environmental exposures (as PM10, PM2.5 and NO2), of unfavorable living conditions (socio-economic environment) and individual factors (specific spatio-temporal trajectory) would induce an increased risk for the health of the newborn, (more particularly in terms of birth weight and term of birth). This hypothesis is structured 4 sub-hypotheses: i) The misclassification of exposure is socially distributed among pregnant women living in the Eurometropole of Strasbourg. ii) Beyond maternal and fetal characteristics, pregnant women who reside in a more socio-economically deprived neighborhood and / or with higher levels of environmental exposure to PM10, PM2.5 and NO2 are more at risk of preterm newborn and low birth weight newborn. iii) The accumulation of environmental exposures of the pregnant women and their daily mobility over their territory during the pregnancy increase the health inequalities of the newborn. iv) The critical windows of fetal exposure to pollutants is related to the socioeconomic level of their neighborhood and to the daily mobility of the women in their territory during pregnancy. Women are included in the study at the time of their first or second trimester ultrasound. Here are the tools used in the study: Descriptive survey of their idividuals characteristics, descriptive survey of women's mobility to assess their exposure during each trimester of pregnancy.
