Filter by:This is an open-label study, in which all participants receives an active treatment with repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) according to clinical protocol. The aim with this pilotstudy is to investigate the feasibility to perform a trial of low-frequency rTMS on treatment-resistant depression in adolescents. The study includes adolescents 13-19 years old, with average to severe depression.
The goal of this clinical trial is to investigate the effects of a three-week altitude-like cognition training intervention in healthy individuals (substudy 1) and symptomatically stable patients with mood disorders (depression or bipolar disorder; substudy 2). This multi-modal intervention consists of an adaptive cognitive training programme that participants complete while they're inside an altitude-training room with 12% O2, corresponding to 4400 meters altitude. Across substudy 1 and 2, the investigators hypothesize that altitude-like cognition training has a beneficial effect on cognition after three-weeks treatment completion measured with a global cognition composite score (primary outcome measure). Further, the investigators hypothesize that hypoxia and cognition training will yield improved executive functioning after treatment completion and changes in brain activity during working memory in the dorsal prefrontal cortex 4 weeks after treatment completion (secondary outcome measures). In the patient study, the investigators further hypothesize that the intervention will have beneficial effects on daily-life cognition measured in virtual reality (VR) 4 weeks after treatment completion (secondary outcome measure in substudy 2). For exploratory purposes, the study will examine effects on additional measures of cognition, functioning and self-ratings scales (tertiary outcomes). The investigators will compare the combination of altitude-like hypoxia (12%) and cognitive training with (1) hypoxia with no training, (2) cognitive training under normal oxygen levels (normoxia; 20%), and (3) normoxia with no training in healthy individuals (substudy 1). For patients with mood disorders (substudy 2) the effects of altitude-like hypoxia (12%) and cognitive training are compared to treatment as usual (TAU).
"The Norwegian Adult Mental Health Registry" (NAMHR) is a medical quality register collecting and systematizing data on patients and their treatment in specialist mental health care for adults in Norway. The main purpose is to create a documentation basis for quality assurance, evaluation, and improvement of assessment and treatment for patients who are offered treatment for mental disorders in the specialist health service. The register uses automatic data capture from various existing data sources. New patients are automatically included, but given the opportunity for reservations from the register without affecting their services and treatment.
This study will be conducted to determine the effect of acceptance and commitment therapy-based psychoeducation on psychological flexibility and impulsivity levels in patients with bipolar disorder. This study was planned as a randomised controlled experimental study. The study will be conducted with 60 patients (Intervention: 30, Control: 30) in the euthymic stage diagnosed with bipolar disorder who applied to Adıyaman Besni State Hospital psychiatry outpatient clinic using randomisation method. "Introductory Information Form" about socio-demographic characteristics, "Psychological Flexibility Scale" and "Barratt Impulsivity Scale -11 Short Form" will be used for data collection. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy Based Psychoeducation will be applied to the patients in the intervention group in the form of group education (consisting of 5-7 people), one session per week for eight weeks; no intervention will be applied to the control group. Pre-tests will be applied to the patients in the intervention and control groups just before the training, post-test will be applied to the intervention group immediately after the training sessions are completed, and follow-up test will be applied one month after the post-test, i.e. in the 12th week. After the pre-test was applied to the control group, the post-test will be applied in the 8th week and the follow-up test will be applied in the 12th week without any intervention. Repeated Measures Analysis of Variance was used to compare the scale scores and Fisher Least Significant Difference test was used for multiple comparisons of Group*Time interaction. Permission was obtained from the University Ethics Committee, the relevant institution and the individuals participating in the study.
The goal of this clinical trial is to learn about cognition in psychotic disorders (schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and schizoaffective disorder). The main question it aims to answer is: Can we use magnetic stimulation to change processing speed (how quickly people can solve challenging tasks). Participants will be asked to perform cognitive tasks (problem-solving) and undergo brain scans before and after transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). TMS is a way to non-invasively change brain activity. Forms of TMS are FDA-approved to treat depression and obsessive compulsive disorder. In this study, we will use a different form of TMS to temporarily change brain activity to observe how that changes speed in problem-solving.
Globally, it's estimated that around 300 million people are affected by depressive illness, and even with access to modern mental health care, long-term recovery is uncommon. Recently, there has been increasing interest in a promising intervention: the ketogenic diet. This diet restricts carbohydrate intake, promoting the breakdown of fats into circulating ketone bodies, which can act as an additional energy source for the brain, potentially reducing its reliance on glucose. While various sources of evidence suggest the potential benefits of the ketogenic diet for individuals with depression, robust clinical studies on its efficacy in depressed patients are lacking. Our goal is to conduct an eight-week, assessor-blinded, randomized controlled trial to investigate the therapeutic effects of a very low-carbohydrate, high-fat ketogenic diet compared to an active comparator diet in individuals with depression.
This is a pilot trial to examine the acceptability and feasibility of time-restricted eating as an adjunct to medication treatment for bipolar disorder.
This study was planned to determine the predictive effects of impulsivity and coping skills on quality of life in patients with bipolar disorder. The sample of the study, which was carried out in a descriptive design, will consist of 80 patients who applied to Adıyaman Besni State Hospital Psychiatry Outpatient Clinic with a diagnosis of bipolar disorder according to Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders-5 and who were in the euthymic period according to the doctor's control. It was planned to collect the data by applying the Personal Information Form prepared by the researchers, "Brief Quality of Life in Bipolar Disorder", "Barratt Impulsivity Scale -11 Short Form" and "Coping Attitudes Evaluation Scale". The data will be evaluated with descriptive statistics, Mann-Whitney U-test, Kruskal Wallis test, Pearson correlations and regression analyses using Statistical Package for the Social Sciences 22 software. Scale use and ethics committee permission were obtained from the responsible authors of the scales before the study.
An open-label, randomized, active control inpatient trial to evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of sublingual dexmedetomidine for the treatment of agitation in inpatients with schizophrenia or bipolar disorder as measured by the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale - Excited Component (PANSS-EC) and Agitation-Calmness Evaluation Scale (ACES). Lorazepam will serve as the active control.
This is a 2x2, within-subjects, cross-over trial to test the anti-depressant effects of acute exercise in 20 participants with bipolar depression. Participants will complete four experimental sessions, two with an exercise challenge and two with a resting control condition in a counterbalanced order. Participants will receive either 800mg of ibuprofen or placebo before exercise or rest in order to test whether blocking the inflammatory response to exercise interferes with the neural and psychological effects of exercise.
