Functional Assessment and Sleep Apnea in Obese Children and Adolescents

Childhood obesity increases significantly, and determines several complications in childhood and adulthood, and the worldwide prevalence of childhood obesity has shown a rapid increase in recent decades. The severity of obesity-related risk factors is directly linked to body fat topography, and variations in body fat distribution in obese children can be of high value in predicting future health risks, like of cardiovascular disease in adulthood. There is a potential correlation between obesity and sleep disorders, increasing the predisposition to obstructive sleep apnea syndrome, that is a frequent complication, affecting up to 80% of obese children and adolescents. In relation to postural control, and that anthropometric indicators interfere with children's postural balance, already verified by balance assessment using computerized dynamic posturography. Several studies show that physical activity in childhood and adolescence can influence healthy habits in adulthood. Children and youth ages 5 to 17 should accumulate at least 60 minutes of moderate to vigorous-intensity physical activity daily. It is important to emphasize that the COVID-19 has impacted every aspect of healthcare delivery, and therefore Telerehabilitation has been satisfactorily addressed in reabilitation In the exercise recommendations for children, exercise programs performing aerobic and resistance exercises at a high level of intensity, on a frequent basis (3-5 days a week) for 30-80 minutes, seeking intensity of 50-90% of the maximum heart rate (HRmax), can be used and are shown to be efficient for the treatment of obesity. Therefore the High-intensity interval training (HIIT) describes physical exercise that is characterized by brief, intermittent bursts of vigorous activity, interspersed with periods of rest, cab generate favorable metabolic adaptations on sleep and body weight loss. Outcome Measures: Primary Outcome Measures - The effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) and high-intensity functional training (HIFT) through Telerehabilitation on body composition and Obstructive sleep apnea (assessed by body mass index and bioimpedanceand polysomnography type 4) Secondary Outcome Measures - Functional performance of children and adolescents (3 minute step test) - Balance (balance assessments with Wii Balance board) Inclusion Criteria: - Age ≥ 6 to 17 years; - Confirmed obesity children by body mass index acorrding to the age

Investigation of the Effect of Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization Technique on Fascia and Fat Tissue Thickness in Healthy Individuals.

Instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization (IASTM) technique can be used for non-pathological conditions as it has been shown in previous literature to affect flexibility and normal range of motion. The use of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique has been claimed to be an effective treatment in increasing tissue temperature, reducing adhesion to connective tissue and increasing collagen adaptation and increasing flexibility and normal range of motion. The instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique works on the facial connective tissue in the body. This connective tissue contains "sheaths of collagen, which form the cavities and muscle divisions that mainly cover the organs." In some studies, they stated that instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization increased perfusion, while in some studies they stated that instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization increased blood circulation. The frequency of ultrasonography (USG) examinations for the musculoskeletal system has increased over time with technological developments and USG has entered daily use in the evaluation of various pathological conditions belonging to this system thanks to its comparable results with MR examinations. The unique advantages of USG such as low cost, easy availability, relatively short examination time, and dynamic real-time comparison with the contralateral side have made it easier to use for musculoskeletal examinations. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of instrument-assisted soft tissue mobilization technique on strength, flexibility, balance, fascia and adipose tissue thickness in healthy individuals.

Rhythmically Entrained Exercise in Community-Dwelling Older Adults

Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro conduct a single-arm intervention trial to investigate the efficacy of a music-based group exercise program for community-dwelling older adults. Up to forty participants will be recruited to participate in a music-based light-to-moderate intensity group exercise program for 20 weeks (30 - 40 min/day, up to 6 days/week), which is designed for older adults with or without functional limitations to exercise with chairs for the improvement of aerobic capacity, upper and lower body strength, and balance control at a gradually increasing pace. During the exercise sessions, participants will be trained to move in time with music playlists in synchronous tempos. Primary outcomes are cognitive performance, mobility, and health-related quality of life measured before and after the intervention. Secondary outcomes are adherence to the exercise program as a potential mediator of the treatment.

This study aims to investigate whether or not yoga instructors have a more symmetric gait pattern and better balance ability than healthy people without experience of performing Yoga. Inertial measurement units (IMUs) will be used to gather data related to gait symmetry and single leg stance balance. A comparison by four performance indexes related to gait symmetry and balance will be made to quantify the potential advantages of yoga practice.

Balance and Gait in Hearing Impaired Children

The investigators balance and balance related problems and exercise programs should be handled multi-dimensionally. In this study, the investigators' aim is to investigate the effect of dual task-oriented education with stroboscopic glasses on balance, functional mobility and general walking parameters in children with hearing impairment, despite conventional balance exercises. The study will be started when the consent form which prepared in accordance with the ethical committee conditions, explained and approved to all participants and their families. Participants aged 7-12 years, who have not undergone cochlear implant surgery, who can walk independently, have a hearing threshold of 75 decibels (dB) and above, and are diagnosed with congenital bilateral sensorineural hearing impairment will be included in the study. Hearing impaired children who have physical, visual impairment, lack of cooperation for the application and have any neurological problems (other than sensorineural hearing loss) or orthopedic problems that may affect their balance will not be included. Children who meet the inclusion criteria will be divided into three groups by block randomization method; as control (Group 1), conventional exercise balance (Group 2), dual task-oriented stroboscopic visual training group (Group 3) and a healthy control group (Group 4) without any disability will form the fourth group. Only assessments and scales will be applied to the participants in Group 1 and Group 4 at the beginning of the study and at the end of 12 weeks. Group 2 and Group 3 will be included in the exercise program twice a week for 40 minutes for 12 weeks. Conventional balance exercises are planned to be done in groups, and other trainings are planned with one-on-one therapist. Before starting exercise training, demographic characteristics such as dB values (specified in the health reports of), age (years), height (cm), body weight (kg) of the children included in the study will be recorded. At the beginning of the exercise training and at the end of the 12-week training; balance, functional mobility and gait, fall history and fear of falling, quality of life, hand-eye coordination will be evaluated. This study is important in terms of being an example for researches to be carried out for the hearing impaired or other disability groups and contributing to the exercise programs of the trainers working in this field.

Cognitive and Balance Dual Task Training for People With Schizophrenia

After developing and pilot testing the training program, including the CogBals software, a 3-arm, single-blinded, randomized controlled trial is used to recruit 81 participants and then randomly allocated to the cognitive and balance dual task training group (COG&BAL), the balance training group (BAL), and the treatment as usual group. The first two training groups (COG&BAL, BAL) receive training for 60 minutes in a group format, 2 times weekly, for 12 weeks. All participants will be assessed at baseline and posttest. The primary outcome is balance function and secondary outcomes are cognitive functions and the muscular endurance of lower extremities.
