Filter by:Implantation of bone marrow cells, including endothelial progenitor cells, into ischemic limbs has been shown to improve collateral vessel formation. In the present study the safety and feasibility of autologous blood mononuclear cells implantation will be investigated in patients with severe peripheral atherosclerosis.Twenty cases will be enrolled. Improvement in the ankle-brachial pressure index (ABI:>0.1), ischemic ulcers and angiography as well as laser doppler flow will be evaluated until six months.
This study is a substudy of the MAN2 -study (Mycophenol mofetil in Antiretroviral Naïve patients 2, see elsewhere in the ClinicalTrials.gov database). In the MAN2 study, HIV-1 infected patients who are not treated with antiretroviral treatment will be randomized to treatment with Mycophenol mofetil (MMF)500 mg BID or a control group without treatment (open label). Both patients randomized to treatment with MMF and patients randomized to the control group will be asked to participate also in this substudy. In this substudy we want to show whether monotherapy with Mycophenol mofetil (MMF) in patients infected with HIV-1 can reduce acceleration of atherogenesis by attenuating various inflammatory pathways normally involved in progression of atherosclerosis.
The goals of this trial are: 1. To compare the sensitivity and specificity of various tools including Doppler and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for diagnosing vertebral artery stenosis and carotid artery stenosis. The positron emission tomography (PET)/MRI fusion imaging will be a promising tool to provide both anatomical and functional imaging for vulnerable plaques. 2. To identify patients at high risk of plaque rupture by image studies, biomedical profile, and gene expression of circulating monocytes.
The investigators hypothesize that macrophages play a crucial role in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).
In this study, we, the investigators at National Taiwan University Hospital, will evaluate the efficacy of pharmacological therapy targeted to reduce insulin resistance (pioglitazone) on the progression and compositional change of non-obstructive coronary atherosclerotic plaques and coronary calcification by serial intravascular ultrasound (IVUS)/multi-detector-row computed tomography (MDCT) follow-up in patients with type 2 diabetes or non-diabetic metabolic syndrome during a 2-year period.
The purpose of the trial is to investigate the accuracy of coronary CT compared to the conventional "gold standard" cardiac catheterization.
