Filter by:The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility and acceptability of a brief coping skills training program addressing anxiety and pain related to surveillance pelvic examinations for female gynecologic cancer survivors.
Approximately 1 in 10 mid-life (age 35-64) Americans have mobility impairing disabilities. People with mobility impairing disabilities are defined using the World Health Organization criteria: community living adults with mobility impairment (e.g., amputation, spinal cord injury). Women with mobility impairing disabilities often struggle with stress, abdominal fat (measured as waist circumference), lack of muscle tissue (measured as handgrip strength) and high cardiometabolic risk. This study investigates the usefulness, acceptability, and effectiveness of two strategies to reduce stress, improve health habits, reduce abdominal fat and increase muscle tissue in mid-life women with mobility impairments. These strategies involve either gentle stretching and strengthening exercises or watching informative videos.
It is emphasized in the studies that the child and parent anxiety that occurs in pediatric surgery should be prevented or reduced. According to previous studies, one way to reduce child and parent anxiety in the preoperative process is to inform the child and family with preoperative family-centered activities. Teaching children anxiety coping skills with the involvement of their parents can reduce preoperative anxiety. This study was planned to evaluate the effect of visualized education and kaleidoscope distraction on children and parents' anxiety on the day of surgery in the preoperative period.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the implementation of IntelliCare as a frontline intervention within health care settings.
The goal of this study is to pilot a new CF-specific cognitive-behavioral therapy intervention (CF-CBT-A) for prevention and treatment of depression and anxiety for adolescents with CF. CF-CBT-A is a 10-session program that was developed with input from adolescents with CF and parents and CF care teams to be highly relevant to the unique needs of adolescents with CF. The program will be piloted at 3 U.S. CF centers with 10 to 12 adolescents with cystic fibrosis who have mild to moderately severe symptoms of depression and/or mild to severe symptoms of anxiety. It will be delivered by mental health coordinator members of the participant's CF care team who receive training, with sessions occurring in-person or via telehealth. We will examine feasibility and acceptability of the intervention as indicated by measures of completion, intervention fidelity, and adolescent and parent satisfaction ratings. We will also examine preliminary evidence of effectiveness. If this intervention is successful, symptoms of depression and anxiety and perceived psychological stress will decrease and coping self-efficacy and health-related quality of life (HRQoL) will improve.
The diagnosis and treatment of paediatric cancer is the most stressful experience for children and their families. Nearly all paediatric cancer patients are presented with at least one psychosocial problem, of which, anxiety and depression often coexist and are most frequently reported. Poorly managed anxiety and depression causes emotional and behavioural problems, impairs relationships and functioning, decreases adhere to treatment, increases the burden of symptoms and significantly impacts quality of life and prognosis. Despite the high rates and negative impacts of anxiety and depression in paediatric oncology, they are poorly managed. Thus, to mitigate the burden of anxiety, depression and impaired quality of life, an age-appropriate cognitive-behavioural intervention shows promise when incorporated with the existing pharmacologic interventions. This study aims to test how effective cognitive-behavioural intervention is to improve anxiety, depression and quality of life of children during chemotherapy. The study will be conducted in two hospitals in Ethiopia and include 8-18-year-old children with haematological cancer receiving chemotherapy, able to communicate with the local language, Amharic, able to provide parental consent and child assent, and without history of developmental, psychological, psychiatric, hearing or speech problems. The study will enroll up to 80 participants and randomise them into two groups, one group will receive a cognitive-behavioural intervention and the the other group will receive the usual psychosocial care provided by staff nurses. Participants in the cognitive-behavioural intervention group will receive five sessions of individual face to face cognitive-behavioural intervention. Each session will last approximately 30-35 minutes a week and supplemented by home-based practices. This study will use different intervention delivery strategies including psychoeducation, guided discovery or Socratic questioning, discussion, drawing, painting or writing, and play depending on the content of each session and maturity of the child. The levels of anxiety, depression and quality of life will be measured before the intervention, after the intervention and one month after completion of the intervention in both groups.
The purpose of this study was to test a simple slow breathing curriculum for reducing stress among high school students. The curriculum was developed by the Health and Human Performance Foundation and implemented for this study at a public high school in Colorado, United States.
Millions of U.S. parents have experienced trauma, putting them at risk for maladaptive parenting practices, which then confer vulnerabilities to their children. This study aims to enhance understanding of how parental emotional dysregulation associated with traumatic stress impedes effective parenting. The study employs neurophysiological methods (electroencephalogram; EEG) to address some of the challenges inherent in the study of emotion (particularly in trauma-exposed individuals) and to identify potential biomarkers of traumatic stress and response to intervention.
A large number of adults who undergo surgery experience perioperative anxiety and pain. The current recommended approach to perioperative pain management is a multimodal approach including opioids. Evidence has demonstrated that the pharmacological management of pain and anxiety is often associated with side effects which limits patient satisfaction and their ability to be discharged from the hospital. Furthermore, it is established that perioperative level of pain is directly correlated to anxiety, depression, and catastrophizing and these are significant predictors for the level of postoperative pain, as well as at the hospital length of stay. Therefore, considerations have been given to the use of non-pharmaceutical complementary approaches to management of anxiety including pre and postoperative use of music. The benefits of music therapy on anxiety has been reported using several surgical models and conditions in adults (cancer, hysterectomy in cancer) and children, prior to surgery and after. The objective of this study is to investigate the effects of music interventions on anxiety and pain in adult populations undergoing diverse types of minor surgery indicate that music therapy significantly reduces both post operative anxiety and pain in adults receiving music interventions before, during, or after surgery.
The aim of this randomized controlled trial (RCT) is to assess outcomes for virtual reality therapy (including pain intensity, pain interference, anxiety, depression, physical function, sleep, behavioral skills development, health outcomes and satisfaction) along with healthcare utilization and costs in participants with Chronic Low Back Pain.
