The purpose of this study is to assess the effectiveness of mobile app containing a range of evidence based tools to improve the mental health and substance use outcomes of university students.
The intervention will focus on identifying risk factors for depression and anxiety and will quantitate the educational component of the POWER Obesity group intervention delivered by mental health professionals that are currently presenting for 30 min during the Monday session to address the root causes of obesity as well as to encourage positive lifestyle changes (e.g. sleep, diet, sun exposure, circadian rhythms, and addictions). The previously published hypothesis identifies triggers, that combined, could cause mental health problems. The 10 groups of triggers are: (1) Genetic, (2) Developmental, (3) Lifestyle, (4) Circadian Rhythm, (5) Addiction, (6) Nutrition, (7) Toxic, (8) Social/Complicated Grief, (9) Medical Condition, and (10) Frontal Lobe. Each of these factors will be dealt with in the lifestyle intervention. The project will be led by the assistant professor (in process) Francisco E Ramirez, MD with his mentor Theodore Friedman, MD, PhD supervising the project. Hypothesis: The investigators hypothesize that composite POWER Obesity group will have greater improvement in mental health compared to the dietitian-led group. Measuring outcomes: The intervention will take 1 year to recruit all the patients the investigators expect to have the 75 patients in the group intervention and 25 patients in the dietitian-led group. With these numbers, our preliminary power analysis suggests there will be a difference in the two groups with an alpha of .05 and 80% power. The investigators will add 3 tests to both arms of the study, 9-question Patient Health Questionnaire (PQ-9), Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD), and the Depression and Anxiety Assessment Test, in the POWER Obesity group at 0, 3, 6 months and 12 months of intervention.
Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy (KAP) is a relatively new approach for the treatment of mental health issues, which involves the combination of ketamine, a dissociative anaesthetic with psychedelic properties, and psychotherapy to promote emotional wellbeing. In this study, we investigated the effectiveness of KAP in adult patients coping with mental health. We predicted that clients would experience lasting reductions in psychological distress over time, such as depression, anxiety, and post traumatic stress, that would be detectable up to 6 months after treatment. The results of this study may provide evidence of sustained real-world effects of Ketamine-Assisted Psychotherapy, of interest to patients, clinicians, researchers, and policymakers.
Approximately 200 Participants with mild-to-moderate, untreated depression and/or anxiety will be randomly assigned (by chance, like flipping a coin) to 1 of 3 study groups: Lumen Coached Problem-Solving Treatment (PST) (n=100), Human Coached PST (n=50), and optional (delayed) Lumen Coached PST as waitlist control (n=50) to improve emotional health. All participants will complete assessments at baseline and at 18 weeks post randomization. Depending on the group assignment the PST program will be delivered by Lumen, a virtual voice-based coach on a study iPad, or by a human coach in person for the first session and then via videoconference or phone for the remaining 7 sessions. Participants assigned to the waitlist control group can receive the Lumen coached PST on a study iPad after completing their 18-week follow-up assessment. Participants will receive 8 coaching sessions to learn problem-solving skills and work on unresolved problems in daily living that may be interfering with their emotional well-being and contributing to depression and anxiety symptoms.
Emotion Focused Family Therapy (EFFT) is a promising intervention that aims to teach parents advanced skills to support their child's development of emotion skills and increase their adaptive behaviours, potentially leading to improvements in their child's psychological functioning and family functioning more broadly. This randomized controlled trial (RCT; EFFT vs waitlist control) will (1) test the efficacy of a 6-week group EFFT program on parent and child outcomes and (2) examine maintenance of treatment gains up to four months post-intervention.

The new professional profiles highlight the need to incorporate competences such as self-regulation, communication or growth mindset in the academia. Not only is this important for employability; we need to take a step further and equip learners with knowledge, skills and attitudes that help them become agents of change and shape sustainable futures in our current complex society. Within the framework of an agreement signed between the University of Granada (UGR), Spain, and, one of the leading real state firms in Spain, Cívitas, a course and a parallel study have been launched that will provide research and training in these competences at a degree level. It is part of the Sustainable Human Development Training Pathway of the Vice-Rectorate for Equality, Inclusion and Sustainability, and 3 ECTS will be accredited for the completion of any of the UGR official degrees. The main objective of the study is to test whether participating in a competence-based course can improve students' cognitive, emotional and personal traits as well as academic performance. Together with this main purpose, the present study also aims to compare the effects of two competence-based programs on the students' ability to improve specific aspects of cognition, emotional intelligence, creativity or academic performance among others. Both programs involve training sustained attention and an accepting and open attitude though they differ in several aspects of their methods, intention and aims. Drawing conclusions from the research and outcomes, pedagogies which are best suited to develop theses competences at the Higher Education level will be suggested. Assessment and certification of this kind of competences will also be proposed.
This study was a single-center prospective, real-world observational study with plans to enroll all eligible patients. The basic information, anxiety and depression, treatment and prognosis of these patients were collected.
