Filter by:The objective of this study is to adapt and test the feasibility of a 4-week motivational interviewing mHealth intervention, Tracking and Reducing Alcohol Consumption (TRAC), to reduce alcohol use among rural adolescent and young adult (AYA) cancer survivors during post-treatment survivorship. At the end of this study, the feasibility data gathered will inform a definitive randomized controlled trial of TRAC-AYA to test the efficacy of the adapted intervention.
This observational study aims to improve our understanding of how legal market cannabis use impacts acute and long-term alcohol use, the microbiota-gut-brain-axis (MGBA), and neurobehavioral alcohol use phenotypes such as impulsivity, impaired cognitive functioning, and craving, among individuals who regularly use both alcohol and cannabis. Over a period of one month, subjects will participate in this three-visit study. Blood samples will be collected to allow for the assessment of inflammatory markers and cannabinoids, a fecal sample will be collected to allow for the analysis of the gut microbiome, and participants will complete cognitive and impulsivity tasks and provide craving ratings during the course of an alcohol self-administration procedure. Subjects will also participate in two 14-day daily diary data collection periods between lab sessions. Daily diary data collection will be used to assess the effects of cannabis use on alcohol use and craving longitudinally.
Examine the feasibility and acceptability of delivering the S4E intervention to 20 African-American youths between the ages 16-21 in Flint, Michigan. The investigators will examine the preliminary efficacy of the S4E intervention in improving the uptake of HIV self-testing immediately post-intervention.
The investigators will conduct a pilot study to assess the acceptability, feasibility, satisfaction, and participant-level outcomes among girls and their mother/female caregiver participating in a preconception health program. The program was developed through an extensive formative phase and is delivered weekly over ~3 months. The investigators will enroll a total of 60 female caregivers and their 8-11 year old daughters/female children to participate in the program and evaluation. Implementation data including acceptability, feasibility and satisfaction will be collected through REDCap and paper assessments completed after each program session and at the completion of the program. Preliminary impact data will be collected through REDCap up to 3 months post-intervention completion. The aims are as follows: 1. To understand if the preconception health program is feasible and acceptable among young girls and their mothers or female caregivers 2. To explore optimal implementation of the program to inform future research and scale up. 3. To assess preliminary impact of the preconception health program on girls' and caregiver's knowledge, cultural connectedness, caregiver-child relationship, community and school connectedness, coping skills, parenting self-efficacy, depression, quality of life as well as substance use behaviors and intentions and intention about sexual activity.
The study aims to develop tobacco modules to be included in an innovative mobile-health (mHealth) intervention (hereon referred to as S4E) and to determine the feasibility and preliminary efficacy of the updated version of S4E in an urban youth-centered community health clinic in Southeast Michigan.
For this protocol, the investigators plan to collect pilot data to examine sex differences in guanfacine's effect on 1) counteracting stress and stimulation based drinking behavior in the laboratory and 2) improving clinical outcomes during a subsequent treatment phase.
This study is a randomized controlled trial (RCT) to assess the feasibility, tolerability, and safety of using opioid receptor antagonists (naltrexone and nalmefene) to treat pain among HIV-infected persons with heavy alcohol use and chronic pain.
Alcohol use disorders (AUD) and intimate partner aggression (IPA) frequently co-occur. There are significant health and economic burdens associated with AUD and co-occurring IPA, and little empirical data to guide treatment efforts. The neuropeptide oxytocin may help mitigate both AUD and IPA. However, clinical data examining oxytocin's effects on human aggression is scant. The proposed study is designed to address these gaps in the literature by utilizing a human laboratory paradigm to test the effects of oxytocin on craving and aggression among couples with AUD and co-occurring IPA.
Exploring technology based tools to reduce drinking is important. The purpose of this research study is to compare different BAC monitoring apps for their effects on alcohol drinking and ratings of usability among young adults.This study will be conducted in six phases: a web-based and in-person screening assessment; brief counseling session on the day before the alcohol drinking session; brief appointment on the day of the alcohol drinking session; alcohol drinking session; two-week field period; and a follow-up appointment. Participation in this study will last approximately two months.
