Validation of a Non-Invasive Sham Technique

Acupuncture in the Freeze-all IVF Cycle

In the early stage, our team found that Acupuncture intervention in freeze-all IVF cycles can improve the clinical pregnancy rate. In order to further study the role of Acupuncture in improving the pregnancy outcome of IVF-ET in infertility. A randomized controlled clinical trial will be used in this study. 90 infertile patients are randomly divided into two groups. The control group will be treated with conventional modern medicine, and the treatment group will be treated with Acupuncture on the basis of conventional modern medicine. The intervention starts from the 5th day of the menstrual cycle and lasts to the day before IVF-ET. The number of oocytes, antral follicles, AMH, serum FSH, and clinical pregnancy rate will be observed to evaluate the effect of Acupuncture on the improvement of pregnancy outcome. In addition, all of the participants will be asked to complete the self-evaluation of the anxiety/depression scale on the 7th day of the menstrual cycle, before and after transplantation, to analyze the emotional changes of the subjects during the study. We observe the safety and health economic indicators of Acupuncture treatment, so as to improve the overall efficacy of TCM Combined Application in assisted reproductive technology in the future.

Effect of Acupuncture on the Clinical Outcome of IVF-ET in Patients With Recurrent Implantation Failure

In order to explore the effect of acupuncture on the clinical outcome of IVF-ET in patients with recurrent implantation failure, the patients divide into the experimental group or the control group. In the experimental group, those patients undergo acupuncture at the beginning of embryo transfer cycle three times a week until 14 days after embryo transfer. In the control group, those patients do not receive any treatments during embryo transfer cycle. Statistical analysis of the two groups of primary endpoint and secondary endpoint are done.

Evaluation of Acupuncture Effects for Complications After Surgery of Cerebellopontine Angle Tumor in Skull Base

Skull base tumors are a type of tumor that grow in the area of several skulls behind the cranial cavity. The incidence rate is 2 to 18 per 100,000 people per year; males and females are likely to have a proportional difference in the types of skull base tumors. Cerebellopontine angle (CPA) tumors are the most common neoplasms in the posterior skull base,accounting for 5-10% of skull base tumors.Some different kinds of tumors can grow in cerebellopontine angle. The tumors are more likely to cause some symptoms when they grow large enough to put pressure on the brain. A common traditional treatment for skull base tumors is neurosurgery-craniotomy. However, after the operation, brain may be injured with hematoma, and the instruments used are in contact with the brain. It is still inevitable that there will have complications of minor and major nerve damages, such as facial paralysis,trigeminal neuralgia, tinnitus, sports disorders (ataxia) and so on. Acupuncture has a unique effect on the treatment of the human nervous system. Aim of the study is used acupuncture to improve the complications of the surgery of Cerebellopontine angle tumors in skull base.

Effects of Transcutaneous Nerve Electrostimulation (TENS) of Acupuncture Points on Pulmonary Function and Dyspnea Symptoms in Patients With Pulmonary Nodules

The ancient use of acupuncture as a treatment modality of traditional Chinese medicine has also been proven effective in Western medicine. The use of this treatment tool for pain control is already proven in the literature and today is considered an important adjuvant for this purpose. However, the ancient texts of acupuncture also report the use of certain points to tonify organs functions, despite of pain control. According to these texts there are some points that allow the treatment of lung diseases improving respiratory function. In order to investigate the effects of stimulation of such points using electric field application, the effect of these procedure on pulmonary function and the impact of this practice on dyspnea symptoms, the investigators will conduct a randomized study with 60 patients (1: 1 randomization) distributed in 2 arms (intervention arm-BI and control arm-BC). Transcutaneous neural stimulation of acupuncture points of the BI patients will be performed. For the BC arm the investigators will place the electrodes over the points without turn on the device to produce a placebo effect. Pulmonary function test, Borg scale application and 6 min walk test will be performed before and after the intervention in each group for subsequent data comparison.
