Filter by:The goal of this study is to determine whether autologous, adipose-derived regenerative cells improve the healing of chronic wounds. Ten patients will undergo fat harvest and peri-wound injection of the isolated cells in addition to the standard of care for the treatment of their chronic wound. Wound healing will be followed over 24 weeks.
This is a randomized, sham-controlled pilot study that will assess the safety and feasibility of splenic focused pulsed ultrasound treatment on burn wound healing time in 24 subjects (12 active ultrasound and 12 sham controls).
The purpose of this study is to determine if additional interventions will assist with decreasing the risk and/or severity of thromboembolism (clotting complications) in patients who have experienced a major traumatic event.
This pilot study will compare a yoga program to a non-yoga exercise program in adults with brain injuries. The investigators will measure possible improvements in balance and heartrate. The investigators also plan to measure changes in brain function and link balance and/or heartrate improvements to changes in brain function. Ideally, this work will create a foundation for a larger-scale study.
Cancer has moved from the tenth place to the second one over the last 100 years, being inferior to only cardiovascular diseases in morbidity and mortality. 40 % of hepatitis cases in patients older than 40 years and 25 % of cases of fulminant hepatic failure (FHF) are caused by drug hepatic toxicity. Cases of acute drug-induced hepatitis (ADIH) make 15-20 % of patients with fulminant hepatitis in Western Europe.
The goal of this clinical trail is to determine the effects of eccentric hamstring training, in prevention of hamstring injuries in sports involving sprinting among club level athletes. The main question it aims to answer is : - Will eccentric exercises have an effect in the recovery of hamstring injuries and injury prevention in sprint performance sports among club-level athletes. Participants will be divided into two groups. Control group will perform conventional training program and interventional group will perform eccentric exercises.
1.3 million people in the UK live with an Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) as a result of experiencing a stroke or traumatic brain injury (TBI). Up to 50% of individuals with ABI will experience depression. NICE guidelines recommend Cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) for depression after ABI. There is growing interest into increasing access to CBT through mHealth technology, including mobile applications. Objective: Phase 1 of the study aims to investigate whether a blended psychological intervention, using a novel smartphone-based application alongside individual therapy sessions is acceptable and feasible for targeting depression after ABI. Phase 2 of the study aims to use qualitative interviews to better understand the participants' experiences of using the mobile app as part of the intervention. Methodology: The researchers aim to recruit 20 individuals with ABI, who are experiencing mild-moderate symptoms of depression. Participants will complete outcome measures and cognitive tasks at the beginning of the study. Participants will then receive a six-week blended psychological intervention; engaging the CBT-based mobile app alongside weekly, 30-minute video or telephone sessions for therapeutic and technology support. Participants will then be asked to complete the same outcome measures as completed at the beginning of the study. Participants will then be invited to take part in a 30-minute interview about their experience of using the mobile app as part of the intervention. Data Analysis: Change scores will be calculated from the data collected as part of phase 1 of the study, to investigate initial efficacy. Recruitment and dropout rates will help determine the feasibility of the blended intervention. In the 2nd phase, qualitative data will be analysed following Ritchie and Lewis (2003)'s Framework Analysis. Findings: Results from this study will help increase understanding into the acceptability and feasibility of using mHealth technology for treating depression following ABI. If effective, it could help to increase access to psychological interventions for individuals living with ABI. We hope to publish findings in a peer reviewed journal.
The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of individualized aerobic exercise regimen on recovery after traumatic brain injury (TBI).Investigators will determine if exercise facilitates recovery by facilitating neuroplasticity and decreasing neuroinflammation.
This is a pilot prospective, observational study of patients with open or infected fracture evaluating the feasibility and acceptability of OCT, a light-based imaging modality that requires no drug or contrast agent.
The goal of this experimental observation study is to figure out differently expressed biomarkers in body fluid in traumatic brain injury patients. The main questions it aims to answer is: - Which RNA, protein and metabolites are differently expressed in lesion tissues? - What molecular mechanism is participated in TBI? Participants will be treated by emergency operation, and their body fluid samples will be collected in emergency room and during the operation.
