In Tunisia, the available data are limited regarding the incidence of venous thrombosis of the lower limbs (TVMI) post-hospitalization, whether symptomatic or subclinical. The thromboprophylactic strategy will certainly depend on the incidence of this complication and its severity. In this study, we performed a systematic screening for TVMI in a well-characterized cohort of patients discharged after hospitalization >48h for an acute medical condition.

This multicentre, randomised geko™ venous thromboembolism (VTE) prevention study will prospectively collect clinical data on VTE occurrences in immobile patients after stroke, who will be randomised, on a 1:1 allocation, to receive either standard of care (Intermittent Pneumatic Compression) or geko™ neuromuscular electrostimulation device. The aim is to assess the prevention of VTE during a follow-up period of 90 days (three months) post-randomisation.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) can cause long-term scarring and narrowing of veins. When there is extensive damage to the veins in the legs, groin or abdomen it can affect the way that blood is able to flow back up to the heart. Some patients are left with severe symptoms such as pain, leg swelling and ulcers, and have surgical treatment with nitinol stents to re-open the veins and relieve symptoms. The primary aim of this study is to investigate venous blood flow to the heart during exercise in patients with extensive damage to the veins in the groin and abdomen after DVT, and changes that happen after stenting.
