Safety and Efficacy of Allogeneic MSCs in Promoting T-regulatory Cells in Patients With Small Abdominal Aortic Aneurysms

This study will assess the safety and efficacy of systemic (IV) administration of escalating doses of allogeneic MSCs in modulating immune cell phenotypes and suppressing aortic inflammation in patients with small AAA. Subjects will be randomized in a 1:1:1 fashion to receive mesenchymal stromal cells (1 million or 3 million MSC/kg) intra-venously or placebo (Plasmalyte A).

Point of Care 3D Ultrasound for Various Applications: A Pilot Study

Summary 1. Purpose and Objective: The purpose of this study is to test the feasibility of rapid acquisition of point of care 3D ultrasound in obtaining abdominal and/or pelvic images. The study will use a newly developed acquisition method and post-processing technique to create three dimensional image models of the abdomen and/or pelvis. 2. Study activities and population group. The study population will be a convenience sample of patients of any age presenting to the Emergency Department with complaints necessitating a clinical abdominal and/or pelvic imaging. The study intervention includes acquisition of research ultrasound images, which will not be used for clinical care, and comparison of these images with clinically obtained images. Other clinical data such as surgical and pathology reports will also be reviewed. 3.Data analysis and risk/safety issues. This is a pilot study intended to determine feasibility and to refine image reconstruction algorithms. Research images will be compared to clinical images. Comparison of research images with final diagnosis will also occur. The research intervention, an ultrasound exam, has no known safety risks. The only risk to subjects is loss of confidentiality. This study is observational, not interventional, because the experimental ultrasound will be performed in all subjects and will not be used in the clinical care of patients (consequently, will not have the opportunity to affect clinical outcomes). Experimental images will be reviewed after completion of clinical care and will not be provided to the clinicians caring for the subjects. The investigators are not measuring the effect of the ultrasound examination on the subjects' outcomes.

Ocular Imaging Study Using Advanced OCT

The purpose of this study is to evaluate this AngioScan angiography software on patients with various retinal vascular disorders. The advanced OCT instrument is an FDA approved clinically used camera, but the AngioScan angiography software is not FDA approved. Investigators would like to know if this imaging device and software can improve the quality of images and visualization of imaged tissues and whether they are useful in the diagnosis and treatment of eye diseases. Images collected in this study may be compared to other images collected as part of standard of care on the same patient (OCT, FA, AF, Fundus).

Non-Contrast Enhanced Peripheral Magnetic Resonance Angiography

To systematically develop, test, and refine peripheral vascular electrocardiography-gated fast spin echo magnetic resonance imaging for the accurate diagnosis of peripheral arterial disease without gadolinium contrast. To test prospectively the accuracy of fast spin echo in peripheral arterial disease patients, compared with bolus-chase and time-resolved gadolinium enhanced magnetic resonance angiography. Additionally, as a substudy of this project, we will compare our fast spin echo approach with alternative non-contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging methods such as time-of-flight and steady-state gradient echo imaging. The overarching goals of our research are to develop and validate a peripheral magnetic resonance imaging technique that accurately depicts anatomy and disease without exposing patients to exogenous contrast material and its associated risks.

Role of the Interaction Between Advanced Glycation End Products and Their Receptor RAGE in the Development and the Progression of the Uremic Vasculopathy of Hemodialyzed Patients

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is associated with an extensive vasculopathy and high cardiovascular mortality as well as an accumulation of uremic toxins. Among the latest, advanced glycation end-products (AGEs) interact with RAGE. Investigators aimed to analyze the role of RAGE in the calcification process of hemodialyzed patients, in a correlative and prospective study. Vascular calcifications will be assessed by Xray and tomodentimetry while accumulation of AGEs will be measured in the serum and in the skin (non invasive). Additionally factors influencing RAGE activation such as genetic polymorphism and level of soluble forms of RAGE will be measured and analyzed.
