Filter by:The purpose of the protocol is to to assess subject's overall satisfaction regarding control of diarrhea. The study aims to supplement results obtained through clinical trials with data obtained from a population of patients receiving treatment with Somatuline Autogel in routine practice.
RATIONALE: Growth factors, such as palifermin, may prevent chronic graft-versus-host disease caused by donor stem cell transplant. PURPOSE: This randomized clinical trial studies palifermin in preventing chronic graft-versus-host disease in patients who have undergone donor stem cell transplant for hematologic cancer
The objective is to determine whether 99Technetium-NC100692 uptake in patients with ACS (MI) can serve as a marker for scar formation as detected by contrast-enhanced MRI during the process of myocardial remodelling after the ischemic insult. Comparison of ACS and HCM Populations: The primary objective is to determine whether TcNC100692 imaging is able to quantify the extent to which myocardial fibrogenesis occurring early post myocardial infarction differs from that in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. The primary hypothesis is that since fibrogenesis is known to occur most intensely in the first days to weeks post myocardial infarction, while it is a more protracted, less predictable process in HCM, there will be significantly more TcNC100692 uptake in the early post-ACS population than in the HCM population. Control Population: Normal control images will allow for differentiation of uptake in the myocardium.
This pilot clinical trial studies a culturally-informed counseling intervention in Latinas at high risk for hereditary breast or ovarian cancer. A culturally-informed counseling intervention may be an effective method to help people learn more about their cancer risk.
Congenital central hypoventilation syndrome (CCHS) is a rare disorder of respiratory control characterized by ventilatory impairment that results in arterial hypoxemia. Although patients typically present this disease as newborns and rarely in later infancy, there have been reports of patients presenting with CCHS in adulthood. The present study reports a unique familial case in which the father (proband) presented late-onset CCHS with an expansion mutation of the Phox2B gene that was confirmed by genetic analysis. Surprisingly, the proband did not report any manifestation of the disease during childhood, and the disease progressed following an insidious course until adulthood. At the time of diagnosis, he did not present signs of pulmonary hypertension and right-side heart failure. The patient responded well to nocturnal invasive ventilation. In contrast, his son presented CCHS as a newborn with the full complement of symptoms while his daughter did not. The present report shows that CCHS cases characterized by a mutated Phox2 gene can progress without many symptoms and that the treatment approach used here was efficient for controlling the course of the disease. Furthermore, this case indicates that incomplete penetrance can occur. Genetic screening of family members is mandatory to evaluate the reproductive risk of the disease, especially because asymptomatic mutation carriers may be at high risk to develop the disease and transmit it to the next generation.
A study to verify the superiority of ramosetron hydrochloride (Irribow Tablets) to placebo for male patients with diarrhea-predominant irritable bowel syndrome (D-IBS) and to evaluate its safety.
Dehydrated fruit and vegetable concentrates provide an accessible form of phytonutrient supplementation that may offer cardioprotective effects. This study assessed the effects of encapsulated fruit and vegetable juice powder concentrates on endothelial function and cardiac risk markers in subjects in a randomized, double blind, placebo controlled crossover clinical trial with three treatment arms.
The objective of this study is to verify the relationship between coronary plaque regression and cardiovascular prevention in long term follow up of the Japan Assessment of Pitavastatin and Atorvastatin in Acute Coronary Syndrome (JAPAN-ACS) study [NCT00242944]. In addition, the effect of serum lipid levels or different type of statins on cardiovascular prevention will also be examined.
Brain hypoperfusion patients may cause vascular dementia results from their hypoperfusion state except that is a risk factor for stroke. The most common clinical symptom of hypoperfusion syndrome is dizziness.Siwu tang is made of Angelica sinensis (Oliv.) Diels (當歸), Rehmannia glutinosa (Gaertn) Libosch (熟地黃), Paeonia lactiflora Pall (白芍), Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort (川芎), and that was used to treat patients with blood deficiency for several centuries. the purpose of the present study was to investigate the complementary effect of siwu tang on brain hypoperfusion syndrome patients
Complete DiGeorge anomaly (cDGA) is a disorder in which there is no thymus function. With no thymus function, bone marrow stem cells do not develop into educated T cells, which fight infection. Without successful treatment, patients with cDGA must remain in reverse isolation to prevent infection and subsequent death. Cultured thymus tissue with and without immunosuppression (drugs given before and after implantation) has resulted in the development of good T cell function in subjects with complete DiGeorge anomaly. This expanded access study continues cultured thymus tissue safety and efficacy research for the treatment of complete DiGeorge anomaly. Eligible participants receive cultured thymus tissue. Immune function testing is continued for one year post-implantation.
