The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the feasibility and acceptability of a mindfulness booster course for UK healthcare staff who have previously participated in an eight-week mindfulness course. The measures of feasibility and acceptability that will be examined include: 1. the ease with which participants are recruited to the clinical trial; 2. the extent to which participants choose to remain in the mindfulness booster course; 3. the extent to which participants choose to remain in the clinical trial; 4. how acceptable the participants find the mindfulness booster course; 5. the level of outcome measure completion; 6. whether there is a preliminary indication that the course may reduce stress. Participants will be randomly allocated to either a mindfulness booster course or a control group, who will be encouraged to continue taking care of their wellbeing as they normally would. Participants will be asked to complete questionnaires at three time-points.
This project will involve testing a brief (~30 minute) digital intervention aimed at teaching youth the evidence-based strategy of changing unhelpful thoughts (i.e., cognitive restructuring). The investigators will test the intervention's efficacy compared to an active control condition. Participants (students in grades 5-10 in U.S. schools) will be asked to complete measures of mental health and well-being prior to the intervention as well as 1, 3, and 6-months after the intervention. If the intervention is found to be effective, its brevity and scalability would make it an invaluable resource for supplementing traditional psychotherapy and potentially preventing the onset of mental illness requiring specialized intensive care.
Two-arm, parallel group randomized clinical trial conducted via Mturk comparing a single-session web-based intervention called Compassionate Care versus a control intervention (nature videos with relaxing music) for adults with moderate-to-severe stress, depression and/or anxiety symptoms.
The PreDECESS trial is a prospective study where that will evaluate a new method taking care of premature infants in gestational weeks 30+0 to 34+6 at birth. The new method includes delayed cord clamping and early skin-to-skin contact with a parent. Two populations of infants with their parents will be compared. Infants taken care of in the traditional way before the new method is introduced, and infants taken care of with the new method when it is being introduced. Primary question: Does delayed cord clamping and early skin-to skin contact (SSC) lead to better bonding between parents and their infants? Secondary questions: Are there any potential adverse effects with delayed cord clamping and early skin-to skin contact (SSC)? Is there a difference in infants level of bilirubin, haemoglobin or proBNP? Is there a difference in infants growth? Is there a difference in infants neurological development? Is there a difference in infants and parents level of stress? Is there a difference in mothers production of breastmilk, frequency of breastfeeding or experience of breastfeeding? Is there a difference in parents mood? How do parents of preterm infants experience giving birth of their preterm baby before and after the introduction of the new method?
The purpose of the study is to determine physical and mental health issues of U.K. embryologists related to their occupational characteristics, and how workplace fatigue and burnout may affect their quality of life, cynicism, interactions with patients, attention to detail, and lead to human error, the cause of the most severe IVF incidents that often make headlines and result in costly litigation. It will also correlate how the current manual workflows contribute to these health issues, and what measures can be taken to improve both working conditions and embryologists' health, and, therefore, improve patient care.
The main purpose of this research study is to assess the feasibility and participants' satisfaction of the Stress Management and Resiliency - Relaxation Response Resiliency Program (SMART-3RP) and compare this treatment with SMART-3RP versus referral to a group-based, online support group to see which is better for improving resilience and decreasing distress of participants with cancer and their caregivers. The name of the study intervention involved in this study is: Smart-3RP (virtual, mind-body group treatment program).
In the last four years alone, residents of Puerto Rico have experienced a slew of natural disasters including Hurricane Maria in 2017, earthquakes in 2019 and 2020, the continued COVID-19 pandemic from 2020-2022, and most recently Hurricane Fiona. This series of distressing events can lead to an increased need for mental health resources and trauma treatment. Furthermore, the unique single-district structure of the Puerto Rican education system allows for the efficient dissemination of potential interventions and treatment to all students. The purpose of this study is to examine two treatment conditions for educators and school-aged children in Puerto Rico experiencing burnout, fatigue, and high stress: delivery of a mindfulness-based educator curriculum and, for children who report Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) symptomatology, delivery of the mindfulness curriculum with the additional intervention of Cue-Centered Therapy (CCT). The study has two aims: 1) To assess the efficacy of the mindfulness curriculum and of CCT in a population of students, counselors, and teachers, characterized by high stress over the last few years of natural disasters and pandemic challenges and 2) To identify genetic contributions to resilience by analyzing gene expression in students before and after the intervention. The overarching goals of the investigators' research collaboration are to improve educators' psychological well-being and children's socioemotional development when faced with high stress and adversity and to improve mental health clinicians' competence and confidence in treating children exposed to trauma by training them in CCT. The investigators' research will identify critical biopsychosocial components responsible for the cognitive, behavioral, and emotional improvement and effective implementation strategies in a large but geographically dispersed school district. The knowledge base that will result from this study will inform the implementation of trauma-informed care in school settings and with populations experiencing stress and adversity, and contribute to the investigators' understanding of the underlying biology of these interventions to provide a rationale for further development and dissemination.
The goal of this clinical trial is to examine the effectiveness of the Stress Management and Resilience Training (SMART) in increasing resilience in a population of U.S. Air Force personnel at Joint Base Andrews, Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland, Nellis Air Force Base, and Wright-Patterson Air Force Base. The main questions it aims to answer are: 1. When delivered in real-world conditions, to what extent does SMART increase levels of resiliency and decrease levels of stress in a sample of active component U.S. Air Force personnel? 2. Does SMART have a sustained effectiveness from baseline to 12, 24 and 36-weeks after training completion in a sample of active component U.S. Air Force personnel? 3. Does SMART provided via an in-person/video-teleconference (VTC) or Computer-Based Training (CBT) modality demonstrate equivalent effectiveness in increasing resilience and decreasing stress in active component Air Force personnel? Participants will be asked to complete a pre-intervention survey, complete the assigned modality of SMART ( in-person/VTC or CBT), and complete follow-up measurements at 12-, 24-, and 36-weeks post-intervention completion. Researchers will compare in-person/VTC and CBT groups' measurements to see if a difference in self-reported resilience, stress, anxiety, or quality of life is present pre-intervention.
