Filter by:Work-related stress is a problem due to its repercussions on workers' health and productivity, which is why workplace interventions are required to reduce stress levels through coping techniques. One of the interventions in mental health to reduce levels of work stress are those based on the Internet and mobile applications, with proven effectiveness. Among the interventions are cognitive-behavioral therapies and within these the Problem Solving Therapy (PST). Therefore, there is a need to study the effect of Problem Solving Therapy offered through a web platform on the levels of self-perceived stress. However, there have been no studies on mental health interventions such as the TSP for the reduction of stress levels in office workers. For this reason, the objective of the study is to determine, through a randomized cluster trial, the effectiveness of problem-solving therapy offered through a web platform on self-perceived stress levels. Two scales will measure the levels of stress; one for self-perceived stress and another for work-related stress. Workers who have a high score on both scales will be enrolled. The establishments assigned to the intervention will receive the TSP distributed in 4 sessions. The establishments in the control group would have access to a web page with information on stress management. Immediately after having finished the last session, self-perceived stress levels will be evaluated. One month later a new measurement will be made to evaluate the persistence of the effect.
The investigators have developed a mobile app called Resolving Psychological Stress (REPS) to help alleviate symptoms of PTSD. The app will administer threat-related attention bias modification to individuals who have both a Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders V (DSM-V) diagnosis of PTSD (and meet at least one DSM-V criteria for threat sensitivity) and a DSM-V diagnosis of Alcohol Use Disorder. The aims of the study are to explore both the feasibility and acceptability of the app with it's users, and to explore the efficacy of the app at alleviating PTSD severity.
Problems with stress and pain are common reasons for long-term sick-leave, and need preventive interventions. This RCT builds on a successful previous project (see reference section), where a program involving the work place, the individual and occupational health care resulted in decreased sick-leave and healthcare visits and a higher quality of life as compared to TAU for individuals with musculoskeletal pain. This study will replicate and evaluate the mechanisms behind the involvement from the work place. According to the transdiagnostic model, problems with stress and pain are maintained by similar processes. Consequently, the study will be extended to include both problems, and it will be explored how a refined version of the program affects sick leave and work ability in the employees.
Mental stress-induced myocardial ischemia(MSIMI) has been recognized a significant clinical problem. Evidence has shown that individuals with MSIMI have 2 to 2.5 times higher risk to develop a major averse cardiovascular events over 3-5 years, compared to their counterparts who have no MSIMI. Nevertheless, investigations into the study of MSIMI among women who have chest pain but artery stenosis < 50% have been lacking. In this project, the investigators used positron emission tomography (PET) to evaluate perfusion defect during mental stress to diagnose MSIMI. Women with chest pain and coronary artery stenosis < 50% were included as the experimental group, age-matched healthy people as the control group, the aim of this study is to compare the incidence of MSIMI in the two groups. At the same time, the study also observe the change of MBF during mental stress and the relationship between MBF and MSIMI.
There is an objective lack of data on the body composition, nutritional status, cardiovascular status and lifestyle of adults on a plant-based diet (PBD). The aim in this cross-sectional study investigators will document the differences in the body composition, nutritional intake and general health status of healthy adults aged 18 to 80 years who are on plant-based diet of 0.5-10 years and to determine if their body composition status is associated to the duration of eating with PBD between the 3 groups: those that are 0.5-2 years (short-term), 2-5 years (medium-term) and 5-10 years (long-term) on PBD. This study will also include the monitoring of other factors of healthy and active lifestyle of PBD participants, namely the status of habitual and organized physical activity, the status of daily long-term seating, the status of stress and hygiene of sleep, socio-economic status and the motive(s)/reasons for starting PBD. Investigators will also record their maximum (lifetime) body weight, body weight upon entering the PBD lifestyle, and using data from participants, blood analysis to collect their basic biochemistry results, and data on current blood pressure status. The investigators hypothesis is that: (H1): There are no differences in nutritional status between people who are short- (0.5-2 years), the medium- (2-5 years) or the long-term (5-10 years) on PBD. (H2): At least 80% of the tested subjects have plasma lipid values and blood pressure within the reference values. (H3): There is difference in lipid profile and body composition between people who are short- and the medium but not between medium and long-term PBD.
Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) is a disease that is inevitably fatal. To be diagnosed with a terminal illness such as ALS deeply affects one's personal existence and goes along with significant changes regarding the physical, emotional, and social domains of the patients' life. This pilot study will test a manualized, individual psychotherapeutic intervention to relieve distress and promote psychological well-being in ALS patients. A total of 5 patients will receive the intervention. The investigators will gather important information regarding the feasibility of the intervention (i.e., response rate, patient and therapist adherence, and patient satisfaction), which may be used for conducting a future randomized controlled trial. Various domains of quality of life will be assessed before the intervention (T0), after the intervention (T1) and at 3-months-follow-up (T2) in order to test for preliminary efficacy of the intervention.
This study will evaluate the effectiveness of an 8-week program in Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) in reducing work absences and improving the well-being of healthcare workers. Half of participants will be healthcare employees who are frequently absent from work, whereas the other half will be healthcare employees with normal attendance patterns. All participants will undergo MBSR training and the outcomes of both groups will be evaluated.
This study evaluates the effects of a specific herbal preparation of Panax ginseng in preventing symptoms of stress in healthy individuals.
The purpose of the study is to investigate whether an occupational therapy program could enhance mental health outcomes for veterans who SCUBA dive. SCUBA diving requires modified breathing techniques and has been found to provide calming effects to individuals who engage in this activity. Occupational therapy interventions such as mindfulness, journaling, and deep breathing techniques can also provide similar calming effects. Therefore, this study will explore whether occupational therapy can provide additional benefits to overall mental health of veterans who SCUBA dive.
To test the hypothesis that adult individuals who are victims of gun violence will have decreased symptoms of post-traumatic stress after an individual-level intervention with the Screening and Tool for Awareness and Relief of Trauma (START).
