What Amount of Stress is Enough for a Successful Conception?

The aim of the study is to determine whether premedication with midazolam before oocyte aspiration in IVF procedures affects the amount of (oxidative) stress in women undergoing IVF and whether stress is also transmitted to the follicular fluid of aspirated follicles. The primary endpoint is the impact of stress during aspiration on the success of medically assisted fertilization (IVF / ICSI in the stimulated cycle).

The harmful effects of stress on health professionals are expressed both in terms of their health (physical or mental) and the quality of work (reduced memory capacity, deterioration in patient care). These adverse effects highlight the importance of implementing effective coping strategies and/or early learning of stress management methods in medical training programs. Relaxation breathing techniques coupled with heart rate variability (HRV) biofeedback is one of the new techniques used to reduce the stress level. No research has yet tested the effects of HRV induced by relaxation breathing technique before managing a simulated critical situation.

Effect of Low Doses of Vitamin C on Salivary Cortisol , Heart Rate , Blood Pressure During Group Presentation

Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) is a well-known antioxidant that is involved in anxiety, stress, depression, fatigue and mood state in humans . The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of low doses of vitamin C on decreasing the level of public speaking stress in term of salivary cortisol , blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) and heart rate . A purposive sample of (90) were included in this randomized placeboled trial study (60 students were given 500 mg of vitamin c per day for one week a group presentation while 30 other students were given placebo for one week before a group presentation) . Salivary cortisol was measured by means of commercial immunoenzymatic kits . Blood pressure (systolic and diastolic) and heart rate were measured immediately before and after presentation .

Stress Relief Properties of a Cosmetic Routine

Everyday life psychosocial challenges may negatively impact health and well-being, contributing to the onset and/or progression of psychological and psychosomatic disorders. Pharmacological treatments can moderate our stress response, but they usually bring about addiction/tolerance and a number of other side effects. Therefore, it is relevant to identify alternative stress relief strategies that are devoid of these unwanted drawbacks. Moreover, the effects of such alternative interventions should be objectively quantified by means of reliable psychobiological parameters. The goal of this study was to quantify the acute and persistent effects of a cosmetic routine based on the self-administration of a cream enriched with essential oils, namely Juniperus Phoenicea gum extract, Copaifera Officinalis resin, Aniba Rosodora wood oil, and Juniperus Virginiana. This aim was achieved by measuring the (re-)activity of the autonomic nervous system (via heart variability indexes) and the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenocortical axis (via salivary cortisol levels), as well as through psychometric and behavioral assessments. Participants' informed consent signature for adhesion at the study was initially requested. With their acceptance, parameters were recorded anonimously, identified by their initials and an alphanumeric code. Data were transferred on Excel worksheets, utilized for descriptive analysis related at every variable. All statistical analyses were performed using SPSS 25 software package and statistical significance was set at p<0.05.

Clinical Activity During Night-shift: an Ecological Study

A convenient sample of internal medicine residents will be observed during their nightshift work in the wards of the department of internal medicine of a university hospital. The epidemiology of night calls and emergencies, including incidence, causes, management, and prognosis, will be assessed prospectively. The impact of nightshift work on sleep, stress, quality of life, regrets, and general well being of the residents observed will be measured through completion of validated questionnaires. Quality of handoff sessions will also be assessed.

Real-Time Assessment of Stress and Stress Response

Stress is a complex natural phenomenon, frequently related to a physiological response, including heart rate, heart rate variability, respiratory rate, skin conductance and temperature. The subjective experience varies greatly; broadly, it may be conceived as a freeze, flight, fight, fright or faint response. Many studies have demonstrated the negative influence of psychological stress on health and well-being. Through the digital phenotyping of physiological and psychological stress reactions, in a controlled laboratory setting (Trier Social Stress Test- TSST) and real-life situations, in a population of healthy participants and patients with a major psychiatric disorder, we expect to find reliable and valid digital biomarkers. The results of this study will, therefore, not only contribute to a better understanding of stress and stress response but also have the potential to improve diagnostic and treatment approaches.
