Effects of Exercise Training on Exercise Capacity and Sleep Quality in Patients With Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome

Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome is defined as a combination of obesity (BMI ≥ 30 kg/m2) and daytime hypercapnia in arterial blood gas analysis (PaCO2 > 45 mmHg) without other pathologies that cause hypoventilation. Symptoms seen in individuals diagnosed with OHS are stated as a feeling of suffocation due to apnea, loud snoring, morning headache and excessive daytime sleepiness. Respiratory mechanics, respiratory muscle performance, pulmonary gas exchange, lung functions and exercise capacity parameters are adversely affected in patients. Early treatment is important so that these negative changes do not lead to worse outcomes. Weight control, bariatric surgery, pharmacological treatment and non-invasive mechanical ventilation (NIMV) are included in the treatment program of OHS patients. The effects of exercise on the treatment program of OHS patients are unknown. Considering all the studies in the literature, the primary purpose of this study is to evaluate aerobic and strength training on exercise capacity and sleep quality in patients with hypoventilation syndrome. The secondary aim is to examine the effect of this exercise training on peripheral muscle strength, emotional state, body composition and quality of life parameters. In addition, the researchers believe that this study will form the basis for further scientific studies on OHS and exercise and will make an important contribution to the literature.

Early reporting, diagnosis, and intervention can limit the severity of health hazards, improve health services. To our knowledge, no local previous studies were done in this area. All over the world there is no sufficient information relating to this industry and its health hazards.

A System to Classify Treatable Traits in Primary Care

This study proposes an approach to address an urgent unmet need in clinical practice, namely a pragmatic method of establishing what is the cause of a patient's complaint and the next steps to address this problem. In this study, the investigators will compare the proposed classification with current best practice of self-report, spirometry and FeNO. The investigators will compare the two approaches with a gold standard of deep characterisation by 3 separate diagnostic tests. The investigators hypothesize that patients with symptoms of respiratory disease fall into one of four working groups based on accurate knowledge of three parameters, airflow, treatment use and the patient's symptoms.

Epileptic Seizure in Epilepsy Patients After SARS-CoV-2 Vaccination

Background and Objectives: Seizure attack is one of adverse effects of vaccination in epileptic patients, the risk of which after severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) inoculation was elucidated in the present study. Methods: A self-controlled case series study was designed to examine the association between vaccination and epileptic seizure. A total of 240 epilepsy patients were included who were vaccinated with inactive SARS-CoV-2 vaccines (Sinovac Life Sciences and Lanzhou Institute of Biological Products) and admitted to outpatient clinics from July 2021 to December 2021. Poisson analysis was performed to estimate the relative incidence rate of epileptic seizure in risk periods (day 1-7, 8-21 and 1-21 after first-dose vaccination) compared to basal level in control period.

Breathing is an automatic vital function that has the peculiarity of being controllable voluntary for actions other than breathing. Speech production is a characteristic example of use of the respiratory system for nonrespiratory purposes. A healthy respiratory system is necessary for speech to be adequately produced and modulated. In patients with respiratory diseases, it becomes difficult to interfere with an automatic control of breathing that is intensely active to compensate for the respiratory deficience. Speech production is impeded, and, reciprocally, speech can generate dyspnea. This study explores the hypothesis that longitudinal changes in speech characteristics will parallel the clinical evolution of acute respiratory episodes. The aim is to validate such changes as prognostic indicators, in the perspective of future telemedicine applications. The hypothesis tested is that of an association between : - vocal abnormalities at inclusion (assessed in relation to known data within a normal population (database of holy subjects already constituted) and the initial clinical severity (assessed according to the usual clinical and gasometric criteria): - the evolution of vocal abnormalities during the stay and the clinical evolution.

Clinical Use Cases Assessment of the Gabi System in Young Children With Underlying Medical Conditions (BRIDGE Study)

Subjects will use the Gabi system on a daily basis for 3 months, each time the subject is resting or asleep. The Gabi system will recording the SpO2, pulse rate, respiratory rate and movements of the subject. The objective of this study is to perform a first assessment of the range of most potentially clinically relevant indications for use of the Gabi system for children < 6 years old with underlying medical conditions. This is performed by asking HCPs to review the data measured by the Gabi system after taking a medical decision independently from the Gabi data and to assess the potential clinical utility of the Gabi system. The usability of the system will also be assessed throughout questionnaires filled out by the HCPs and by the caregivers. *During this study, the data collected by the Gabi system are not intended to be used by caregivers or HCPs to take any (medical) decisions.
