Postoperative Chronic Operation-related Symptoms After Minimally Invasive Lung Surgery

Lung cancer has been the most commonly diagnosed cancer globally over the past few decades. Histologically, adenocarcinoma in situ (AIS) and minimally invasive adenocarcinoma (MIA) are defined as cancers with no or limited tissue infiltration. Studies have shown that patients with AIS or MIA have a 100% probability of being free of recurrence within 5 years after surgery and have disease-specific survival rates of 100% and 100%, respectively. In patients with early-stage lung cancer and benign lesions, long-term postoperative survival and tumor recurrence are non-priorities. Therefore, perioperative and postoperative quality of life are increasingly emphasized by patients and clinicians. However, a significant proportion of patients undergoing minimally invasive lung surgery still develop chronic pain and chronic cough in the postoperative period, the severity of which can lead to reduced quality of life. In addition, studies of the psychological state of patients undergoing surgery for pulmonary nodules are rare, and we believe this is one of the valuable factors affecting quality of life. The investigators have launched the first prospective observational trial to investigate the incidence of long-term chronic symptoms after minimally invasive lung surgery, risk factors, treatment received and treatment efficacy, duration of disease, and eventual regression, in addition to pre- and postoperative psychological status and long-term postoperative quality of life in patients undergoing minimally invasive lung surgery.

Lower Urinary Tract Symptoms and School Functioning in Children

Children in primary school often suffer from lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS), which may negatively impact their overall well-being. Co-occurring neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs) can adversely affect children as well and can cause restrictions in their daily life, especially in their school-environment. The goal of this observational study is to identify the prevalence of LUTS in Flemish primary school children.The main questions it aims to answer are: - How prevalent are LUTS in regular primary education? - Is there a relation with well-being in school environment? - Is there an influence of co-occuring NDDs? Children, parents and teachers will be asked to fill in questionnaires related to this research question.

The Effect and Experience of the Parental Program AFFEKT

This project is the first to evaluate the effect and experience of the parent program AFFEKT, through a randomized controlled trial and qualitative study, within primary health care. The project will recruit 200 parents of children with externalizing behaviors, and evaluate the effect of AFFEKT and psychoeducation versus psychoeducation alone, on children's behaviors and mental health, and the parent's strategies and mental health. Through interviews the experience of AFFEKT will be investigated.

Adapting the Shed-MEDS Deprescribing Intervention to Dementia Care in Assisted Living

This single-arm pilot study will evaluate the effects of an intervention to reduce exposure to unnecessary or potentially harmful medications among residents with dementia living in an assisted living facility. The goal of the intervention is to safely deprescribe medications (defined by dose reductions and stopped medications), based on a combination of clinical criteria and resident/surrogate preferences. The investigators will evaluate the effects of the intervention on the total number of medications deprescribed from enrollment at 30, 60, and 90 days along with resident/surrogate reports of quality of life at enrollment and 90 days.

Effectiveness of Low-dose Naltrexone in Patients With Different Types of Vulvodynia

Vulvodynia (Vd) is chronic functional vulvar pain, with prevalence of 3-16% and unclear etiopathology. Although Vd significantly deteriorates quality of life, the problem is marginalized, no pharmacologic treatment standards exist. Naltrexone hydrochloride is a specific opioid antagonist with slight agonist activity. There is growing body of evidence supporting the effectiveness of low-dose naltrexone (LDN) in different types of chronic pain. The main goal of this trial is to test the effect of LDN on pain perception and quality of life in women with different types of Vd. Half of the study population receives LDN and the remaining patients take placebo, according to randomization list. This RTC is quadruplet blinded.

- The main goal of this prospective longitudinal observational study is to investigate the psychophysiological indicators by analyzing HRV, blood pressure, symptoms of anxiety and depression, eating behavior and quality of life during the follow-up of the general health status of patients with obesity undergoing the bariatric surgery by Roux-en-Y reconstruction reduction gastroplasty (GRYR) technique. - The main question it aims to answer is: Does bariatric surgery changes the variables studied (HRV, anxiety, depression, eating behavior, quality of life)? - Type of study: prospective longitudinal observational study - Participant population: 50 patients, both females and males, aged between 18 and 60 years, will be submitted to bariatric surgery with Roux-en-Y reconstruction reduction gastroplasty technique. Patients will be evaluated for five times: before the bariatric surgery and 3-6-12-24 months after the bariatric surgery.

3D Evaluation of Postoperative Edema After Third Molar Surgery

Surgical removal of third molars is recognized as one of the most frequent procedures performed in oral surgery. Literature is rich in studies attempting to demonstrate the benefit of corticosteroids in third molar surgery, however the variety of methods, doses, routes and timing of administration has hampered the standardization of their use in light of best evidence. Also the use of 3D facial superimposition methodology to measure and analyze facial swelling after third molar surgery is a relatively new and promising technology.
