Filter by:Current guidelines for the diagnosis and management of patients with stable coronary artery disease (CAD) strongly support the performance of non-invasive imaging techniques for the detection of myocardial ischemia prior to revascularization procedures. This recommendation originates from the strong evidence base showing the lack of prognostic benefit from percutaneous coronary interventions (PCI) over optimal medical therapy in patients without verification of myocardial ischemia. On the other hand, it could be demonstrated that patients with functionally significant coronary artery stenoses do benefit from revascularization. Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) has emerged to be a diagnostic modality of choice for the detection of myocardial ischemia with high sensitivity and specificity. The investigators therefore designed this prospective and randomized trial to compare a CMR-driven vs. angiography-driven management of patients with stable CAD concerning major cardiac endpoints, futile angiographies and quality of life.
This is a cross-sectional, multicenter observational study to assess quality of life in young Spanish women (aged 18 to 29) who use Jaydess® as their contraceptive method. The study will be conducted in standard clinical practice conditions at the private gynecology clinics and during a single study visit. Approximately 1,200 women who have been using the intrauterine delivery system (IUS) Jaydess® as their contraceptive method of choice for 6 (±1) months will be included in the study.
A single-center, randomized trial of admitted patients with ischemic heart disease receiving percutaneous coronary intervention and stent implantation will be conducted at University Hospital of Ferrara. Patients will be randomized to either the control (standard care) or the bundle group in which patients will receive counseling regarding dual antiplatelet therapy management, advantages and side effects, screening for depression or anxiety, standardized education. The primary endpoint will be the difference in the quality of life as assessed by EQ-5D questionnaire.
This study evaluates the global quality of life of foreign born adopted children, one to seven years following their arrival in France. Investigators will assess global health, behavior, school integration for each child who arrived in France between 2008 and 2013, through an online anonymous survey. Investigators, then, will identify variables associated with a lower quality of life in order to improve the support offered to the children.
Introduction: Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders (WMSDs) are characterized by inflammation of muscles, tendons, fascia and nerves of upper limbs, shoulder girdle and neck. Its incidence is increasing and there is evidence of its association with the pace of work. As WMSDs, another major public health problem is back pain, which also negatively influence the quality of life of patients. These diseases affect many workers, among them, workers in the health area, including surgeons. Studies show that many surgeons are suffering from fatigue and musculoskeletal pain after undergoing surgery, especially laparoscopy. Regarding the quality of life of doctors, a study indicates that surgeons have commitment of domains "Vitality" and "Pain". For these reasons it is important to develop strategies for prevention of occupational risks (WMSDs) in this class of workers. Objectives: To evaluate the influence of a Preventive Program (educational and gymnastics) for prevention of WMSDs, in the quality of life, in limitation of the work, in intensity and frequency of musculoskeletal pain in surgeons of the Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre. There will also be evaluated the effects of the program on muscular strength and flexibility of medics participating in the Preventive Program. Methodology: Randomized clinical trial with a sample of 54 surgeons, divided into two groups: A ("Intervention": will participate in eight meetings consisting of exercise and guidelines on care and prevention of WMSDs in activities of daily living, especially those relating work activities) and B ("Control": will receive a manual-brochure - containing information about general health). Participants will sign a Letter of Consent.
This study is collecting data on quality of life, (care)needs and socio-economic factors in colorectal (ex-)cancer patients via a written questionnaire completed by the patient him/herself. The collected data will be linked with the patient- and tumour characteristics available in the database of the Belgian Cancer Registry and with the facturation data supplying information about diagnostic techniques and performed treatments (available via the insurance companies). Based on the selection criteria, 1220 patients were finally selected from the database of the Belgian Cancer Registry. These patients received an invitation letter by regular mail, a detailed questionnaire and an informed consent. The questionnaire contains topics as sociodemographic, life style, comorbidity, satisfaction with the provided information, care needs, quality of life, anxiety and depression, financial situation etc. The patients were asked to complete the questionnaire and send it back, together with the signed informed consent, to the study-collaborators. After 2-4 weeks, a reminder was sent. At that time, a reply card was added. If a patient doesn't want to participate in this study, a reason can be mentioned on the reply card. The collected data are linked with the clinical data. The dataset will be coded before analyses will start.
Essential oils (aromatic oils extracted from plant parts) are routinely used by the public and are available on the market. Investigators are conducting this study because it is unknown whether the essential oils formulations will be safe and effective for improving quality of life in children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) by helping them relax and sleep. Children invited to participate in this study must be between 3-9 years of age and have been diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder. Twenty eight children and their families will be enrolled in the study. Participants will try two different fragrant oils in a double-blind randomized order. Each child will receive each treatment for 3 months, with a 1-month "washout" period in between during which no oil is used.
A prospective observational cohort study to assess the predictive value of preoperative frailty on postoperative quality of life in cardiac surgery patients.
Investigation of a bilateral inguinal hernia repair using one large self-fixating mesh covering both groins. Health outcomes are assessed using different questionaires with focus on urinary symptoms (with ICIQ-MLUTS score), the recurrence rate, postoperative pain measurement, and Quality of Life assessment with EuraHS-QoL and chronic pain monitoring for 12 months.
The purpose of this retrospective observational study is to describe the sequence of ICU-therapies that are limited and to compare characteristics and the decision making process in surgical ICU-patients.
