Translation and Cross -Cultural Validation of ECOS-16 Questionnaire in Urdu Language

Start date: March 15, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Osteopenia is a clinical term to define the declined Bone Mineral Density (BMD) as per the normal reference values but not low enough to meet osteoporotic diagnostic criteria. A Dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DXA) bone scan is used to diagnose decreased BMD. Osteopenia is, as described by the World Health Organization (WHO), a score ranging from -1 to -2.5, whereas Osteoporosis is diagnosed with values less than - 2.5. The risk of a decrease in BMD doubles as a woman goes into Menopause. The objective of this study will be to determine the effects of Kinect-based virtual reality training on BMD, fracture risk, physical function and Quality of life in postmenopausal women with Osteopenia. The aim of the present study is to translate the ECOS-16 Questionnaire into Urdu Language along with validation of the translated versions by evaluating its validity and reliability in the Postmenopausal women of Pakistan with Osteopenia or Osteoporosis and understanding Urdu Language. No such study has been previously conducted in the Pakistan region which translates the specific questionnaire and follows the proper cross-culture adaptation protocol.

Comparison of the Effects of Different Living Environments in Geriatric Individuals: A Pilot Study

Start date: April 29, 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

In Turkey, 63% of geriatric people who make up approximately 8.3% of the entire population live in their own living environment, 36% live with their children and 1% live in nursing homes. The number of individuals living in nursing homes is increasing as the nuclear family structure becomes more evident. National Social Security programs give special importance to nursing home restructuring and Social Health Policy aims to increase practices related to "aging in place" and "Active and Healthy Ageing" for geriatric individuals. In this context, projects aimed at preventing secondary negative symptoms in aging and supporting the quality aging process are outstanding. The aim of this study is to assess and compare cognitive functions, balance, musculoskeletal pain severity, psychological state, participation level in activities of daily living, and quality of life of geriatric individuals living different environments.

Concurrent Training and Metabolic Profile, Lung Function, Quality of Life and Stress

Start date: January 10, 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Physical inactivity and sedentary time are highly prevalent worldwide and are associated with many adverse health outcomes. Workers adults spend two-thirds of their workday sitting, so they are particularly at risk. Exercise is considered a preventive and treatment tool for diseases, however, the effects of Concurrent Training (that is, aerobic plus resistance training) are not well established in healthy adults. This research project aims to analyze the effects of a concurrent training program on metabolic profile, lung function, stress and quality of life, as well as body composition and physical fitness in sedentary adults. This is a single-blinded two-arm RCT with parallel groups. After completion of baseline assessments, eligible participants will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to participate in concurrent training group or control group. Repeat assessments will be taken immediately post 8 weeks and post 16 weeks of intervention.
