Filter by:Mind-body exercise improves symptom of negative moods, dyspnea and quality of life in chronic diseases, but these improvements for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) are unproven. This study aims to examine the effects of dyspnea, exercise capacity, heart rate variability(HRV), anxiety, depression, interoceptive awareness, quality of life(QoL) in patients with COPD across a three-month mind-body exercise program.
Lighter tooth color may improve patient satisfaction with facial aesthetics. Few data exist regarding the impact and association of of tooth color connection with quality of life. The purpose of this research is to explore the extent to which patients perceive a color change and difference in quality of life induced by tooth whitening after one week and after one year. A plan is to assess 100 participants for eligibility (aged 18-30 years) and to enroll at least 70 and randomly assign to an active or a control group (equal number of participans in each group). Their anterior teeth in both jaws will be bleached with a photo-activated whitening gel, or will be subjected to a placebo. Lightness, chroma and translucency of teeth will be assessed before (T0), one week (T1) and one year (T2) after the procedure by a spectrophotometer. The subjects in both occasions will administrate the psychometric instrumetns Psychosocial Impact of Dental Aesthetics Questionnaire, Orofacial Esthetic Scale, Oral Health Impact Profile and Smile Esthetics Related Quality of Life. Influence of personality traits on the perception of changes in smile aesthetics and qualiy of life will be also explored (extraversion, conscientiousness, neuroticism, agreeableness, openness to experience, perfectionism, self-esteem, body image).
This study compares the use of conventional radiotherapy technique with volumetric intensity-modulated radiotherapy (VMAT) in the treatment of painful cancer metastases. Half of the patients will receive radiotherapy using a conventional technique, while the other half will receive their treatment using a the VMAT technique.
Older adults who feel lonely carry increased risk for reduced quality of life, morbidity, and mortality. Volunteering is a promising intervention for reducing loneliness in later life. The primary objective of this proposal is to test the hypothesis that a social volunteering program for lonely older adults will lead to reduced loneliness and improved quality of life. This study compares the effect of a Senior Corps volunteering intervention versus a self-guided life review active control condition on feelings of loneliness in older adults. The study involves randomly assigning older adults (150 women, 150 men) who report loneliness to 12 months of either: 1) a structured social volunteering program, or 2) an active control intervention with self-guided life review. Specific aims are as follows: 1) To examine the effect of volunteering on loneliness and quality of life; 2) To examine social engagement, perceived usefulness, and social support as mechanisms for reducing loneliness; 3) To examine conditions under which volunteering is most effective at reducing loneliness.
The investigators propose a randomized controlled effectiveness trial to evaluate the integrated clinic-community model of child obesity treatment as compared with routine primary care.
The purpose of this project is to evaluate an interactive training program for military-connected caregivers (MCCs) of wounded warriors. The program leverages existing resources and incorporates evidence-based training and peer-based support networks to enhance continuity of care. The program consists of an educational Toolkit (workbook) and an avatar training interaction where an MCC can practice skills learned from the toolkit training with the avatar (how to navigate difficult conversations). This is an educational training evaluation to determine whether or not avatar interaction can effectively improve health outcomes in MCCs.
Dyslipidemias are a major risk factor for the onset of cardiovascular disease, while early diagnosis and appropriate treatment approaches significantly reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. The aim is to provide revised Greek guidelines for the diagnosis and treatment of dyslipidaemias. The lipids of the human body are cholesterol (it is used to synthesize cell membranes, adrenal hormones and gonads and is a component of bile) and triglycerides (used as a fuel and as a storage of energy in adipose tissue). Dyslipidemias are disorders (quantitative or qualitative) of the metabolism of lipoprotein particles [low density lipoproteins (LDL), chylomic, high density lipoproteins (HDL), very low density lipoproteins (VLDL)] that carry lipids into the body. Primary prevention in subjects aged 40-65 years with no known clinical atherosclerotic disease and without diabetes or chronic renal disease should evaluate the likelihood of a fatal cardiovascular event over the next 10 years. For this purpose, it is recommended to use the Greek version of the SCORE of the Hellenic Heart SCORE.
This study is based on a survey about the patient centered care situation and health-related quality of life of patients with diagnoses Psoriasis, Urtikaria or Lupus erythematodes. Detection of relevant parameters of quality of life by these patients serves for the detection of psychosocial burden of the mentioned skin diseases, thus gaining an increasing importance for prospective economic issues. This survey is a behaviorally based questionnaire for patients with the above diseases and addresses activities such as sleep and rest, mobility, recreation, home management, emotional behavior, social interaction, and the like.
The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect on QoL, PI and the AROM° in patients with non-specific chronic low back pain. This after following an episode of 6 weeks 2 times a week physiotherapeutic back rehabilitation according to the 4 times T method by orthopedic disorder ® (4MTOR®). The results in this research will be analyzed and reported. In this study, 7 dependent variables will be independently examined relative to 2 independent variables.
This is a study to assess the feasibility and acceptability of implementing a music therapy intervention for caregivers of hospitalized patients who are referred to inpatient hospice.
