Geriatric Assessment and Intervention for Older Patients With Frailty in the Emergency Department

GAOPS
Start date: December 11, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Comprehensive Geriatric Assessment (CGA) is an established approach for better detection of frailty-related problems and includes individualized treatment plan with multi-discipline supportive and treating measures for the older frailty patients. However, there is limited evidence of feasibility and efficacy of the CGA when provided in the emergency department setting. In the GAOPS-study the efficacy of the CGA in emergency department setting will be studied by randomized controlled study protocol. We aim to study if the CGA provided in the ED is feasible, safe and efficient method when added with standard emergency care for older frail patients.

NCT ID: NCT03745599 Completed - Pain Clinical Trials

Evaluation of the Effects of Different Analgesics on Pericoronitis Pain and Quality of Life

Start date: November 1, 2017
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Pericoronitis is a painful inflammatory condition which is well known for its negative impact on quality of life of those affected. The aim of this study was to test two hypotheses: (1) that topical application of Benzydamine is as effective as oral Diclofenac or Flurbiprofen in improving pain and quality of life of patients with pericoronitis and (2) that there would be no difference between the effects of the two oral NSAIDs on pain and quality of life of patients with pericoronitis

NCT ID: NCT03744494 Completed - Prostate Cancer Clinical Trials

Cosmetic Appeal, HRQoL and Effectiveness of Simple and Pseudotesticular Techniques of Orchidectomy in Prostate Cancer

TEPSO
Start date: March 2, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The therapeutic efficacy of three types of orchidectomy was ascertained as well as the QoL and scrotal cosmetic satisfaction of patients in the three surgical arms. Two of these surgeries produced a pseudotesticle (BSCO, BESO) while one (BSO) did not.

NCT ID: NCT03739060 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Impact of TENS on Postoperative Pain and Quality of Life After Inguinal Hernia Repair

TENS1
Start date: August 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Lichtenstein herniorrhaphy still remains one of the most often performed inguinal hernia repair techniques. It is frequently associated with acute postoperative and chronic pain. Due to insufficient effect of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, they are often overdosed. However opioids have many side effects. Interventional treatment, such as transversus abdominis plain (TAP) block requires an additional intervention and has relatively short effect, also could not be applied in outpatient conditions. The hypoalgesic effect of transcutaneous electric nerve stimulation (TENS) is well known for many years, but effectiveness during postoperative period is still controversial and maybe therefore didn't come to daily practice. However it could be a promising part of multi-modal pain treatment for hernia patients. This study analyse the hypoalgesic effect of TENS and its impact on hernia specific quality of life (QoL) after Lichtenstein hernia repair. Aim#1 To determine whether use of TENS is effective for acute postoperative pain relief. Aim#2 To determine whether use of TENS have impact on hernia specific QoL in early and late postoperative period. Aim#3 To identify factors associated with effectiveness/ineffectiveness of TENS procedures. Aim#4 To determine whether a psychological condition (depression, anxiety and pain catastrophisation) is somehow associated with TENS effectiveness.

NCT ID: NCT03736577 Completed - Depression Clinical Trials

Psychotropic Drug Use in the Elderly Living in Nursing Homes and the Influence of a Structured Drug Review

Start date: November 12, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The overall aim of this study is to explore if a structured drug review will change clinical symptoms and the psychotropic drugs prescription rate in the elderly living in nursing homes (participants of the study). The study will examine how training of nursing home physicians on reviewing prescription lists using the Norwegian general practice criteria - Nursing homes (NorGeP-NH) will influence the participants' clinical symptoms such as cognition, depression, anxiety and their quality of life. Secondary, we will analyse how a structured drug review will influence further psychotropic drug prescribing rates in nursing homes. The hypothesis for this study are: 1. Training of nursing home physicians on doing a systematic drug review will decrease the participants' clinical symptoms and improve their Quality of Life. 2. A systematic drug review will decrease the psychotropic drug prescription rates compared to before the drug review.

Skeletal Muscle Wasting and Renal Dysfunction After Critical Illness Trauma - Outcomes Study

KRATOS
Start date: December 19, 2018
Phase:
Study type: Observational

This study aims to determine changes in kidney function during and after critical illness, comparing conventional creatinine based methods with the gold standard to accurately establish the presence of new or worsened chronic kidney disease. In addition, investigators will assess the confounding effect of muscle wasting on the conventional assessment of kidney function and investigate the information that measures of kidney function may contribute to the assessment of musculoskeletal health after critical illness.

NCT ID: NCT03734224 Completed - Quality of Life Clinical Trials

Inguinal Hernia Operation and Postoperative Pain

Start date: November 1, 2018
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Inguinal hernia is a common disease, which is treated surgically when symptomatic. Pain after open inguinal hernia surgery can affect the patient significantly and weaken their quality of life. The aim of this study is to find out if the choice of mesh affects postoperative pain and therefore causes more contacts to the health care center. Our goal is also to find out how the pain affects the patients´ quality of life.

Traumatic Dental Injuries Treatment and Oral Health Related to Quality of Life

Start date: March 1, 2013
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this research was to assess the impact of Oral Health-Related Quality of Life (OHRQoL) on children and their families affected by Traumatic Dental Injury (TDI) after insertion into a Dental Trauma Care Program (DTCP). After a sample size calculation, this non-randomized clinical study was composed of a consecutive sample of 2 to 6-year-old children registered in the DTCP from 2012-2019. Parents/Caregivers were interviewed to fill up an OHRQoL questionnaire. The Brazilian version of the Early Childhood Oral Health Impact Scale (B-ECOHIS) was applied (in form of an interview) to evaluate the impact of TDI on OHRQoL before, and after treatment. The scores of the B-ECOHIS were calculated using the additive method, summing the numeric response codes for each item. The Andreassen classification was used to determine the TDI. The patients were treated (minimally intervention/invasive intervention) according to TDI severity (uncomplicated/complicated). The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test was performed to evaluate the normality of the data to determine the use of parametric or non-parametric tests. Mean or median comparisons were made for items in the overall scale and subscale scores to compare B-ECOHIS total scale/subscales/domains before and after insertion in DTCP. The responsiveness was assessed by analyzing the change in the scores on the scales and subscales. The changes were calculated by subtracting the post-treatment scores from the before-treatment scores. Positive change scores indicate an improvement in OHRQoL, while negative scores indicate deterioration. TDI severity and treatment-associated were also evaluated.
