Filter by:Purpose: To determine unmet functional needs in patients referred to the Palliative Care Unit at Rigshospitalet, Copenhagen University Hospital will be asked to fill out self reported questionnaires regarding problem intensity, problem burden and felt needs, physical functioning, emotional functioning, fatigue, sleep, distress. Furthermore patients physical function will be evaluated.
The proposed mixed methods pilot study will enroll 20 young breast cancer survivors into a 12-week technology-based, remotely-delivered, peer-moderated physical activity program to examine the effects of the intervention on objectively measured physical activity and multiple aspects of quality of life; and conduct qualitative analyses to refine the intervention for a future randomized controlled trial.

The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of a developed psychosocial eHealth intervention on the proposed primary outcomes, health-related quality of life and symptom burden, among Hispanic breast cancer patients. The intervention components include breast cancer knowledge, stress awareness and management, social support, and enhanced communication and intimacy skills. The intervention will be delivered via a Smartphone application over a 12-week period. Participants are randomized into either an intervention application (described below) or standard treatment. Aside from using the Smartphone application for the recommended 12 weeks, participation in this study includes three assessments: baseline (at the beginning of the research study), 6-week follow-up, and 12-week follow-up.
A prospective single blind controlled randomized trial to evaluate the superiority of photobiomodulation (PBM) using LED-therapy in reducing the prevalence of radiodermatitis in breast cancer compared to usual local care.
Persistent hypoparathyroidism is an underestimate but major complication of total thyroidectomy. The hypothesis of the investigators is that the mental health is impaired in hypoparathyroid patients compared with thyroidectomized patients without hypoparathyroidism. The investigators evaluated the quality of life using the SF-36 survey in comparison with a control population of patients thyroidectomized but free from this complication. The voice quality, the cardiovascular risk, the kidney function and the incidence of urinary lithiasis were also evaluated.
Older people with cancer differ from younger patients due to the combined effects of aging, comorbidities and cancer treatments on their health. In acute myeloid leukemia (AML) and non-hodgkin lymphoma (NHL), chemotherapy, which is the main treatment, is associated with significant toxicity that negatively affects patients' physical capacities and quality of life, already declining with age and comorbidities. It therefore seems essential to develop and evaluate interventions that can prevent physical and psychosocial decline and its consequences in these populations. However, no studies have evaluated a physical activity (PA) program among these populations, although the absence of risk of implementing PA during intense therapeutic procedures has been confirmed. OCAPI is an interdisciplinary, prospective, interventional, feasibility study. It is intended to include 20 AML and 20 NHL patients 65 years of age or older at the time of initiation of the first chemotherapy line, with an ECOG <3, with no contraindications to PA and no history or coexistence of other primary cancer. Expected results are to demonstrate that a program offering supervised sessions in a sterile room or at home and remote support can enable patients with AML or NHL to perform their daily PA in autonomy. All these results will generate preliminary data before implementing a larger national study.
This study evaluates the effect of therapeutic Virtual Reality (VR) on quality of life of 60 patients with non-specific chronic low-back pain. 30 patients will be included in the intervention group. These patients will use Reducept, a therapeutic virtual reality application based on diverse cognitive therapies (ACT, mindfulness, EMDR, hypnotherapy), at home over a period of 28 days, for at least 10 minutes each day. This will be an add-on intervention next to standard care, while the patient is waiting to receive actual treatment for chronic pain. 30 patients in the control group will only receive standard care, whilst waiting to receive actual treatment for their chronic pain. Intervention and control group will be compared on a number of outcome measures related to quality of life before using VR, during VR use, just after use and 4 months after final use. This explorative study is necessary to get first insights as a basis for a confirmative study.

Non-alcoholic beer has different compounds derived from hops that exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and nutritional properties. The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of diet + exercise and non-alcoholic beer on nutritional status, endothelial function and quality of life in patients with cirrhosis.
