Filter by:The goal of this clinical trial is to improve communication among clinicians, patients with memory problems, and their family members. We are testing a way to help clinicians have better conversations to address patients' goals for their healthcare. To do this, we created a simple, short guide called the "Jumpstart Guide." The goal of this research study is to show that using this kind of guide is possible and can be helpful for patients and their families. Patients' clinicians may receive a Jumpstart Guide before the patient's clinic visit. Researchers will compare patients whose clinician received a Jumpstart Guide to patients whose clinician did not receive a guide to see if more patients in the Jumpstart Guide group had conversations about the patient's goals for their healthcare. Patients and their family members will also be asked to complete surveys after the visit with their clinician.
The purpose of this research is to test whether participating in either a physical activity intervention or a series of educational classes will help to preserve exercise capability, heart function, brain-based activities (like memory), and quality of life. Participants will be randomized to 1 of 2 pathways: - First pathway consists of organized health workshops. These workshops are intended to provide information on topics such as proper nutrition, management of stress, sleep practices, and emphasis on a healthy lifestyle that may help the participants through cancer treatment. This pathway will also test whether stretching may help participants through cancer treatment. - Second pathway participants will take part in some unsupervised and some potentially supervised moderate activity sessions each week throughout participants' cancer treatment to take place either remotely or in person, depending on availability of facilities at the time visits are scheduled.
Long-term conventional treatment of chronic hypoparathyroidism does not fully restore calcium homeostasis leading to increased morbidity, emergency events and reduced subjective health status. To further investigate general morbidity, hypocalcemic events, subjective and daily life performance in patients with chronic hypoparathyroidism a standardized interview as well as blood sampling and examinations such as echocardiography and renal ultrasound are performed.
The goal of this clinical trial is to validate the use of digital Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (Digi-ACT) in Hong Kong curative cancer patients with depressive and anxiety symptoms. The main questions it aims to answer are: - Can Digi-ACT reduce depressive or anxiety symptoms? - Can Digi-ACT improved health-related quality of life? - Is Digi-ACT an acceptable and feasible intervention for users? - What are the factors that influence the success of Digi-ACT? - Can the video journals used in Digi-ACT predict depressive symptoms? Intervention group participants will install the Digi-ACT mobile application and undergo a 3-4 week long intervention. They will have to fill out questionnaires at baseline, immediately after the intervention, and at three month follow up to measure depression and anxiety symptoms, health-related quality of life, acceptability of the intervention, and other process outcomes related to the intervention itself. Researchers will compare the outcomes with a group of participants that undergo a 3-4 week long period where they navigate a similar mobile platform that gives bi-daily psychoeducational videos that also fill out the same clinical questionnaires at baseline, post-intervention, and at three month follow up.
The study is composed of three paper self-questionnaires to be filled in by the patients included at distance (> 6 months) from their diagnosis of metastatic breast cancer, in order to limit the impact of the announcement on the filling out the questionnaires. After verification of the eligibility criteria, the medical oncologist will present the study to patients coming to the ICL for a follow-up consultation as part of their regular care. The patients will meet with a clinical research nurse so that she can explain the again and answer any questions they may have. She will also give the patients the questionnaires questionnaires and will give a presentation of the questions asked. After this meeting, the patients will be given sufficient time to reflect on, which may extend until their next visit to the ICL, in order to express, if they wish, their opposition to participating in the study. If she agrees to participate, the patient can then complete the questionnaires as well as the complementary questionnaire and place them in a closed envelope to be given to the clinical research nurse. The completion of the questionnaires will be completely anonymous. The data of those who object to the use of their data will be deleted from the database. After the completion of the questionnaires, and in order to allow a benefit for the patient, a semi-directive interview in the form of a teleconsultation with a psycho-oncologist and sexologist will be offered. The interviews are not mandatory. The time to fill in the self-questionnaires is estimated at 30 minutes and the semi-directive interview can last up to one hour. Finally, at the end of the study, as part of her subsequent care, each patient participating in the study will have the possibility to renew a teleconsultation with the psycho-oncologist and sexologist if she feels the need. As the subject of the study may generate personal questions and lead to a request for psychological and/or sexological care.
For millions of cancer survivors, cognitive impairment is a prevalent, severe, and persistent problem that is associated with other symptoms (depressive symptoms, anxiety and fatigue), poorer work ability, and poorer quality of life. Available evidence, including work by the investigators own group, suggests that cognitive training may be a viable treatment option. However, to date, these studies are limited as none have been conducted in the home and therefore fail to address the transferability of these empirically based cognitive training programs to general practice. The purpose of this translational research is to conduct a home based single-blind, randomized controlled trial to test the feasibility, satisfaction, and preliminary efficacy of cognitive training compared to attention control in breast cancer survivors (BCS) as well as to explore potential biomarkers of intervention effects. This research innovatively builds on investigator's previous research by: 1) translating findings from the laboratory to the home setting and importantly seeks to identify facilitators and barriers of intervention use; 2) addresses limitations of previous trials (uses an attention control rather than a no-contact or wait-list control), (3) examines cognitive training effects on real-life outcomes such as associated symptoms, perceived work ability and quality of life; and (4) will be the first study in cancer survivors to explore levels of BDNF as a potentially sensitive outcome measure of intervention effects over time compared to attention control. Findings from this study will provide necessary information about the feasibility, satisfaction and preliminary efficacy of the home-based cognitive training on memory performance and processing speed as well as its effects on associated outcomes in BCS. Positive results will lead to a larger, full-scale study to determine efficacy and build evidence-based treatment for clinicians to use in treating BCS with cognitive impairment.
The goal of this observational study is to gather data about surgical procedures for rectal prolapse in adult human subjects. The main question it aims to answer is: • Which procedure is best for treating external rectal prolapse? Participants will: - be included if they can consent to participation - be offered standard care treatment, as no interventions will be done - be asked to answer relevant questionnaires within 3 months prior to the surgery for rectal prolapse - be asked to answer the same questionnaires 6 and 12 months postoperative - optionally answer the questionnaires again at 3 and 1 year postoperative, but this is not part of the existing funding body
The aim of this study: It was aimed to observe the effects of intraoperative and preoperative PECS II block on postoperative pain, amount of analgesic use and shoulder joint range of motion in patients who underwent breast cancer surgery. This research was planned as an observational study. For this purpose, patients who underwent breast cancer surgery in İzmir Bakırçay University Çiğli Training and Research Hospital General Surgery Clinic will be included in the study at the 1st hour after the operation. Patients who underwent preoperative Interpectoral - Pectoserratus Plan Block in the operation will be included in Group 1, patients who have been applied Interpectoral - Pectoserratus Plan Block between the muscle planes by the intraoperative surgeon will be included in Group 2, and patients who have not applied any block will be included in Group 3. Pain numerical rating scale (numering Rating Scale) at postoperative 1st, 2nd, 6th, 12th and 24th hours in patients, patient recovery scores (QoR15 Turkish version), amount of tramadol used in patient-controlled analgesia, time to first rescue analgesia, adverse events (pneumothorax, nausea, vomiting, itching, hematoma, allergic reactions) and quality of life, shoulder joint range of motion, hand grip strength (also on day 1) and disability level will be measured on postoperative day 10. H0- Preoperative interpectoral - pectoserratus plane block affects the level of postoperative pain. H1- Preoperativeinterpectoral - pectoserratus plane block does not affect the level of postoperative pain. H2- Intraoperative interpectoral - pectoserratus plane block affects postoperative pain level H3- Intraoperative interpectoral - pectoserratus plane blockk does not affect the level of postoperative pain.
The current project aims to design and implement an 8-week Virtual Reality Adventure Therapy Exergaming (V-RATE) intervention focused on women veterans. A randomized controlled trial using a repeated measure design with a 1-month follow-up assessment will be employed to examine effects on physical and mental health outcomes.
