Filter by:Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine disorders in women of childbearing age. However, the optimal infertility treatment for PCOS patients is still a matter of controversy. Despite producing more follicles and more oocytes than other women undergoing controlled ovarian hyperstimulation during an IVF cycle, women with PCOS have comparable or lower pregnancy rates. Additionally women with PCOS patients undergoing IVF have a higher risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS), which may be aggravated by pregnancy after an embryo transfer in a fresh cycle. Further women with PCOS are thought to have higher rates of later pregnancy complications including spontaneous abortion, pre-eclampsia, and preterm labor that may be related to impaired implantation in the superovulated endometrium. We propose a randomized clinical trial of elective embryo cryopreservation followed by a programmed cycle of endometrial preparation and frozen embryo transfer (FET) compared to fresh embryo transfer in women with PCOS undergoing in vitro fertilization (IVF).
Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common disease caused by hormonal imbalance and is also associated with overweight and obesity. It affects 5-10% of adolescent girls and women capable of having children. Polycystic ovary syndrome is associated with missed menstrual periods, hormonal imbalance, being overweight, and with a form of diabetes. Girls with polycystic ovary syndrome may have a breathing problem known as "sleep apnea." Sleep apnea may cause a person to stop breathing for short periods of time while sleeping. People with polycystic ovary syndrome are thirty times more likely to develop sleep apnea than those who do not have PCOS. If sleep apnea is not treated, it may lead to daytime sleepiness, poor school performance, high blood pressure, heart disease and diabetes. The purpose of this study is to understand how insulin function is affected in presence of sleep apnea in girls with polycystic ovary syndrome between 13-21 years of age as compared to girls with PCOS without sleep apnea. Insulin is one of the hormones made in your body to convert food into energy. In people with increase weight body cannot use insulin properly. The investigators also want to see if insulin action is also affected by sleep apnea.
Women with PCOS have been observed to be potential diabetics.Recently,American Diabetes Association has suggested screening of women with PCOS for HbA1C.
Low-frequency electroacupuncture (EA) can decrease serum 17-hydroxyprogesterone (17-OHP), androstenedione (A) and testosterone (T)of young women with polycystic ovary syndrome in the Human chorionic gonadotrophin (HCG) stimulation test ,also,we hypothesize that EA is more efficiency in improving ovulation rate and menstrual cycle than sham acupuncture.
In addition to chronic anovulation and hyperandrogenemia, polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is also characterized by peripheral insulin resistance and hyperinsulinaemia, which in turn lead to the development of diabetes, hypertension, atherosclerosis and coronary heart disease. Serum markers of inflammation are being increasingly recognized as predictors of atherosclerosis and cardiovascular risk, and chronic low-grade inflammation has been recently proposed to play a role in the pathogenesis of metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes mellitus. Therefore, the aim of the present study is to evaluate the effects of commonly used non-pharmacologic (diet and lifestyle change) and pharmacologic (oral contraceptives, metformin, anti-androgens) treatment strategies on classical and surrogate cardiovascular risk markers in women with PCOS. The study hypothesis is that some of the commonly used therapies of women with PCOS may have more favorable effects on classical and surrogate markers of cardiovascular risk then others or some of them may even confer a higher risk of cardiovascular events
Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS) is a condition characterized by infertility, infrequent periods and amenorrhea or irregular bleeding plus anovulatory infertility. Clomid is the standard first drug of treatment for ovulation induction. Ovulation and conception will occur in approximately 75 and 30 percent of cases respectively. Cases not ovulating in response to doses of clomid up to 150 mg/day are known as clomid resistant PCOS.
The aim of this study is to compare the effects of six months treatment of two insulin-lowering therapies on the clinical and endocrine-metabolic parameters in obese women affected by polycystic ovary syndrome. The study group includes 40 patients, randomly allocated to subgroup A (metformin 1500 mg/day) and subgroup B (myo-inositol 1500 mg/day). The investigations include menstrual pattern and hirsutism score evaluation, hormonal assays, oral glucose tolerance test, euglycemic hyperinsulinaemic clamp and lipid profile at baseline and after six months of treatment.

The overall objective of this ancillary study is to obtain skeletal muscle and subcutaneous adipose tissue biopsies from women with polycystic ovary syndrome enrolled in the PULSE Study (NCT01482286).
