Go Girls! Fitness Support Group Intervention Effectiveness Study

CBS002
Start date: April 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The main purpose of this study is to determine if the Go Girls! program to take place at the Kluge Children's Rehabilitation Center Therapeutic Recreation Gymnasium, intended to introduce girls to a fun, non-threatening environment of exercise with peer support, improves scores on a physical activity enjoyment scale (PACES). Information regarding enjoyment of physical activity before and after the program will allow objective evaluation of whether the program is achieving its mission. Qualitative responses to the questionnaires will give program leaders a better sense of potential attitudes and barriers to regular exercise for teen girls. These responses will be used to shape activities during this or future programs for teens. Anthropometric (e.g. body weight, blood pressure, waist circumference) and biochemical (bloodwork) data will allow us to determine whether any change in metabolic risk factors can be seen from this 6-month once weekly intervention.

NCT ID: NCT02105428 Completed - Overweight Clinical Trials

Potential Impact of Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome on Protein Modifications and Accumulation

Start date: July 2010
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

A goal of this study is to use a novel methodology to determine whether insulin resistance in women with polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is related to the accumulation of proteins with modifications. This could lead to future research to determine if these modifications interfere with their proper function. Additionally, the investigators will determine how protein quality is affected by exercise training. Aerobic exercise enhances the endogenous oxidant buffering systems which may minimize oxidative damage to proteins. The investigators propose that aerobic exercise minimizes the accrual of modified proteins by increasing the synthesis of new proteins, but also by increasing the degradation and removal of old and damaged proteins. Based on our previous studies the investigators observed that insulin affects plasma protein synthesis and aerobic exercise improves insulin sensitivity not only in muscle but also in liver. The investigators therefore propose that aerobic exercise and related increase in insulin sensitivity (and decline in insulin levels) will reduce accumulation of old and modified skeletal muscle and plasma proteins leading to improved function.

NCT ID: NCT02086526 Completed - Clinical trials for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Targeting Pathways in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) Using Metformin (MET)

Start date: March 2014
Phase: Phase 1
Study type: Interventional

The investigator's global hypothesis is that women with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) can be separated into subtypes based on their response to metformin. The investigators propose here to use both targeted and non-targeted metabolomic approach to identify pathways associated with metformin's effect on insulin sensitivity and endothelial function. This pilot project will be the foundation for developing tailored therapeutic approaches to Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and identifying novel drug targets.

NCT ID: NCT02086318 Recruiting - Infertility Clinical Trials

A New Algorithm to Predict Ovarian Age

OvAge
Start date: January 2012
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To collect data of clinical, biochemical and 3D-ultrasonographic parameters of a population of fertile women aged 18-55 in order to design a new algorithm able to predict ovarian age and to evaluate the reliability of a multimodal diagnostic evaluation of ovarian age in term of both reproductive prognosis and distance to menopause following the guidelines of the Standards for Reporting of Diagnostic Accuracy initiative (STARD)

NCT ID: NCT02084940 Recruiting - Clinical trials for Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome

Long Acting GnRH Antagonist in PCOS Women Undergoing IVF

Start date: March 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

PCOS is a common endocrinopathy affecting 5-10% of women in their reproductive age characterized by hyperandrogenism, chronic anovulation and polycystic ovaries. This syndrome is a serious problem in IVF since there is a high risk of developing ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome (OHSS) during ovarian stimulation with gonadotropins. The introduction of GnRH antagonist in IVF has reduced the incidence of severe OHSS, still maintaining a good ovarian response and pregnancy rate. Recently, a long acting GnRH antagonist, Degarelix, was introduced for prostatic cancer treatment. Furthermore a recent paper reported its use also for the induction of multiple follicular growth in a program of oocyte donation. The aim of this study is to evaluate the feasibility of GnRH antagonist depot use in a protocol of controlled ovarian hyperstimulation in PCOS women at risk of developing OHSS in IVF cycles.

NCT ID: NCT02078505 Not yet recruiting - Clinical trials for Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Gut Microbiome in Patients With Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

Start date: April 2014
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The polycystic ovary syndrome is intimately associated with body weight and nutrition. The genomic era did not bring a breakthrough to the understanding of the syndrome. The recent surge of studies on gut microbiome has raised the possibility that the specific diet, which often affect these women favorably, would change their gut microbiome. Hence, the investigators will examine their gut microbial population in comparison to normal ovulatory women and then examine whether a low carbohydrate diet causes favorable change in their gut microbial population.

NCT ID: NCT02073929 Completed - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Disease

LIPT - Liraglutide in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

LIPT
Start date: March 2014
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) affects 5-10% of women in fertile age. PCOS is associated with metabolic syndrom, diabetes and and increased risk og cardiovascular disease. The study investigates the effect af intervention with GLP-1-analog on risk markers of cardiovascular disease in women with PCOS. 70 women will be included in af RCT. Hypothesis: GLP-1-analog treatment in women with PCOS (without diabetes) will result in a beneficial reduction in risk markers of vascular thrombosis and early cardiovascular disease.
