Breathe Easier II: A Dyad-based Multiple Behavior Intervention

This pilot randomized control trial (RCT) will test a 12-week, multiple behavior intervention physical activity and stress management for survivors with early stage lung cancer (stages I-III) and their family members (1 survivor + 1 family member or friend = 1 dyad). The long-term goal of this research is to improve health outcomes for survivors of lung cancer and their family members. The goals of the intervention, Breathe Easier, are symptom reduction (less breathlessness, less fatigue, less stress) and change in multiple behaviors (increase in stress management and increase in physical activity, and decrease tobacco use - if appropriate). Our aim is: To conduct a 6-month, two-group, pilot randomized control trial intervention study with a pre- and post-test study design to estimate preliminary intervention effects on (a) reduction of symptoms (breathlessness, fatigue, and stress) in survivors of non small cell lung cancer (stages I-III) and family members or friends; (b) increase in physical activity behaviors immediately following the intervention and at 3-months; (c) increase in stress management strategies immediately following the intervention and at 3-months; (d) reduction in smoking behavior among participants who smoke tobacco products at study entry immediately following the intervention at 3-months.

Generation Healthy Kids: A Cluster-randomized Trial of a Multi-component, Multi-setting Intervention

The GHK intervention was developed according to the United Kingdom Medical Research Council's framework for developing and evaluating complex interventions. A pilot- and feasibility study was conducted during December 2022-April 2023, and the intervention was subsequently adapted and adjusted. The GHK main trial is a two-school-year cluster-randomized school- and community trial designed to investigate the effect of the multi-setting, multi-component GHK intervention program on weight development, health and wellbeing in Danish children aged 6-11 years. The trial will include 24 schools in Denmark (12 intervention and 12 control). The primary aim of the cluster-randomized trial is to investigate whether the GHK intervention program can promote healthy body composition as measured by fat mass (FM) in the intervention group compared with the control group. We hypothesize that the intervention will result in less FM gain in the intervention group compared with the control group over the two school-year study period.

Parent-Based Physical Activity Intervention for Black Families

This study is an 8-week parent-based physical activity intervention focusing on increasing physical activity in preschool-aged children. The participants will be randomized into two groups: control and intervention. During the 8 weeks those in the intervention group will receive weekly newsletters and have weekly phone calls with a physical activity coach. The material in weekly newsletters and focus of the phone calls will be on behavior changes related to physical activity. Parents will be encouraged to complete physical activity alone and with their child. The control group will not have any contact with study staff during the 8-week intervention and continue with normal behaviors. Physical activity levels in the parents and children will be measures before and after the intervention.

The Effectiveness of Supervised Group-based Walking Program Among Older Adults

Aim and Objectives: The overall aim is to examine the effectiveness of supervised group-based walking intervention by comparing with non-supervised group-based walking and non-supervised individual-based walking interventions on improving physical, psychological and social outcomes among the older adults in Hong Kong. The outcomes of the research will be used as references for designing an effective walking operation manual for promoting healthy ageing among older adults in the community. Objectives (Phase 1-Intervention): 1. To compare the differences of effects among supervised group-based, 5 non-supervised group-based, and non-supervised individual-based walking intervention programs, and the control group on the primary outcomes, including physical health, walking performance, loneliness, perceived social support and physical activity enjoyment among the older adults in Hong Kong. 2. To compare the differences of effects among supervised group-based, non-supervised group-based, and non-supervised individual-based walking intervention programs, and the control group on the secondary outcomes, including health-related quality of life and functional fitness among the older adults in Hong Kong. (Please refer to Appendix D for the outcome measurements of the intervention) Objectives (Phase 2-Promotion) 1. To formulate and develop a walking operation manual for the use of implementing an effective walking program for the older adults in Hong Kong. 2. To promote and organize mass walking programs with the format as informed by the Phase 1 study among the older adults in the community (n=900-1080). 3. To raise the government's awareness towards the promotion of an effective walking program as informed by Phase 1 study for achieving the government's goal in promoting active aging.

The importance of social and familial support for older adults and the need to address increasing declines in physical activity for both children and older adults. Health promotion interventions that capitalize on the existing relationship between grandparents and grandchildren may simultaneously improve health-related outcomes for older adults and children.

Impact of Exercise on Ashtma in Adults

The aim of this study is to evaluate if physical activity could improve asthma control and management in adults. With this purpose we enroll asthmatic patients between 18-64 years old, and randomized them into 2 groups: in the first, patients will receive some workshops about asthma en physical exercise; in the second no educational intervention will be done. All patients will use a step counter in order to evaluate their activity during the study. Spirometric values and questionnaries about asthma control and quality of life will be recorded for all patients. Finally 2 groups will be comparated in order to search any difference in quality of life and asthma control.

Supporting Physical Literacy at School and Home

The goal of this clinical trial is to test if a multilevel (school, home) physical activity intervention for school-aged (3rd-5th grade) children can increase physical activity levels. The main question[s] it aims to answer are: - The impact of the multilevel program on children's physical literacy and physical activity over one school year. Hypothesis: - Whether the program effects are different by children's gender or weight status - Whether changes in children's ability, confidence and motivation for physical activity are related to changes in physical activity levels. Schools will be randomly assigned to receive the multilevel intervention or a control group. Participants in the intervention group will receive a new school curriculum during regular physical education classes and information for families on what school activities can be done at home. Researchers will compare outcomes according to intervention and control group assignments.
