NCT ID: NCT04670133 Withdrawn - Periodontitis Clinical Trials

Inulin Supplementation During Sanative Therapy to Further Improve Periodontal Healing

Start date: January 1, 2024
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The aim of this study is to investigate the effectiveness of daily supplementation with inulin before, during and after sanative therapy (ST), on clinical outcomes of periodontal disease. The study design will allow the investigators to conclude if supplementation with inulin can favourably modulate oral microbiota prior to ST and can result in better periodontal health after ST.

NCT ID: NCT04530695 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Acute Myelogenous Leukemia

Diagnosis and Treatment of Periodontal Disease in Patients With AML

Start date: May 2022
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This is a phase 2 randomized controlled trial of pre-chemotherapy periodontal deep cleaning in Acute Myelogenous Leukemia (AML) patients with asymptomatic periodontitis. Once eligibility is confirmed, participants with periodontitis will be randomized in a 1:1 ratio to undergo treatment by scaling and root planing (SRP, "deep cleaning") (arm A) or receive no periodontal treatment (arm B). We will compare the incidence of Blood Stream Infection (BSI) during chemotherapy between the two arms. Study participation will continue until day 28 of chemotherapy or discharge from hospital, whichever occurs first.

NCT ID: NCT04017429 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Periodontal Diseases

Osteoplasty in Conjunction With Surgical Treatment of Mandibular Grade III Furcation Defects (FURC-III-OST)

FURC-III-OST
Start date: October 15, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Teeth with furcation grade III defects will be treated with open flap debridement, with or without osteoplasty. The study is designed to examine the effect of osteoplasty in the treatment of teeth with furcation grade III defects with open flap debridement.

NCT ID: NCT03917030 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Periodontal Diseases

Osteoplasty in Conjunction With Surgical Treatment of Mandibular Grade II Furcation Defects

FURC-II-OST
Start date: October 15, 2019
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Teeth with furcation grade II defects will be treated with open flap debridement, with or without osteoplasty. The study is designed to examine the effect of osteoplasty in the treatment of teeth with furcation grade II defects with open flap debridement.

NCT ID: NCT03042117 Withdrawn - Clinical trials for Cardiovascular Diseases

Connecting Periodontal and Coronary Artery Disease Via the Inflammatory State of the Body

Start date: October 18, 2016
Phase:
Study type: Observational

Cardiovascular disease is one of the leading causes of death in the United States and the world. Many interventions relating to prevention have been emphasized as more risk factors for this devastating disease are discovered. Periodontal disease is known to have a close association with cardiovascular disease, but its role as a risk factor is still not well understood. Inflammation is a driving force in both of these diseases, creating a potential bridge between the two. Specifically, periodontal disease can cause an inflammatory reaction in the body, which may predispose or even directly contribute to atheroma formation in the coronary arteries. In this study, the investigators will study the link between the inflammatory state of the body and will search for a correlation with levels of coronary artery disease and periodontal disease. Inflammatory markers such as high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP), erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR), and immunoglobulin G (IgG) levels in the patient's blood will be analyzed and correlated to clinical attachment loss measured via pocket depth measurement, the distance from the gingival margin to the base of the pocket. A definitive link between these disease processes will allow preventive measures to be taken earlier to prevent this lifelong disease.

NCT ID: NCT02749318 Withdrawn - PERIODONTAL DISEASE Clinical Trials

Dental Engagement Study Behavior Modification

Start date: July 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

This is a pilot study to determine whether knowledge gained by an individual of genetic risk for severe periodontitis changes the patient's health behavior as measured by an increased frequency of their preventive dental office visits. In addition to the primary objectives of the study, the overall design and logistics will be used to inform a possible future study.

NCT ID: NCT02202304 Withdrawn - Periodontal Disease Clinical Trials

The Effects of Chlorhexidine/Thymol Varnish on Partial Denture Patient

Start date: September 10, 2017
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Cervitec, a chlorhexidine based varnished has been proven to reduce caries risk in younger populations. This study wants to investigate if the use of this product would reduce the risk of losing abutment teeth on patients that are wearing partial dentures as the literature has proven that these teeth are more prone to caries and periodontal disease. The primary objectives of this research project are to: 1. Assess if the topical application of CHX/thymol varnish every three months on partial denture abutment teeth results in a clinicallu significant decrease in any loss of attachment compared to no application, and 2. Assess if the topical application of CHX/thymol vanirhs every three months on partial denture abutment teeth results in a clinically significant decrease in carious lesion development or progression compared to no application. The secondary objectives of this research project are to: 1. Assess of the topical application of CHX/thymol varnish every three months on partial denture abutment teeth compared to no application results in a clinically significant difference in: 1. Bleeding on probing (BoP). 2. Plaque formation. 3. Periodontal pocket depths. 4. Microbial composition and GCF cytokine profile of the sub gingival environment. 5. The patients self perception of oral health.

NCT ID: NCT00594334 Withdrawn - Periodontal Disease Clinical Trials

Effect of Actonel on Periodontal Health of Postmenopausal Women

Start date: January 2008
Phase: Phase 4
Study type: Interventional

Hypothesis: Women who use Actonel (risedronate) for osteopenia will show beneficial periodontal effects.

NCT ID: NCT00582374 Withdrawn - Preterm Birth Clinical Trials

Periodontal Disease and Preterm Birth

Start date: March 2005
Phase: N/A
Study type: Observational

To determine the relationship between periodontal disease and upper genital tract inflammation in pregnancy. To determine whether certain fluid levels in the oral cavity and the vagina are associated with preterm birth or low-birth weight.
