A double-blind, randomized crossover design with five arms including four experimental conditions and placebo will be applied. After having successfully completed screening procedures, eligible participants will be invited to five separate test days. The test days cannot be within the same week, however there is no upper limit for days in between, as long as the participants remain weight stable and do not change diet or physical activity level. Significant changes in diet, physical activity level (evaluated by the sub-investigator) or weight change ±3 kg over the course of the study (from screening to completion of the last test day) results in exclusion of that subject.

Handheld Vibrator Versus Topical Eye Drops as Anesthesia for Intravitreal Injections

Intravitreal injections are an efficient method of delivering therapeutic levels of medications to the posterior segment of the eye. Prior to receiving an injection, there are various methods to provide ocular anesthesia. Vibration may have an anti-nociceptive effect by directly decreasing the sensitivity of peripheral nociceptors or by reducing signal transmission from peripheral nociceptors to the brain with activation of vibratory sensation pathways. The purpose of this study is to evaluate the use of a handheld fingertip vibrator compared to topical eye drops for pain control while performing intravitreal eye injections. A secondary objective of the study is to measure corneal and conjunctiva sensitivity with and without activation of the vibrator to the lower lid using a Luneau Cochet-Bonnet aesthesiometer.

The study is a three-arm intervention, where students are randomly assigned to one of three conditions: Teacher-led group-based MBCT, Self-guided MBCT using an audio book, or 'wait list' control. Pre-intervention, respondents complete a questionnaire assessing self, values, psychological processes related to self, and well-being. Post-intervention, respondents complete the same questionnaire, and then take part in a laboratory-based study which assesses behaviours related to the variables measured in the questionnaires. We are aiming for a sample size of 180 students at Sussex, 60 in each intervention arm.

The purpose of this study is to determine whether cognitive training exercises can improve cognitive functioning in young patients with recent-onset psychosis who are being treated in community mental health settings using the NAVIGATE model. The investigators will examine the effects of web-based cognitive training exercises delivered on iPads. Participants will be randomized to one of three conditions, and will be assessed at Baseline, Post-Intervention, and 6 Month Follow Up on measures of clinical, neurocognitive, and functional status.
