Filter by:A Phase 2 study to evaluate safety, pharmacokinetics and efficacy of Hepatitis C Immune Globulin Intravenous (human) [Civacir(TM)] for preventing or reducing the impact of recurrent HCV infection following liver transplantation.
It is hypothesised that there is a difference between the uptake of a radioactive substance ([18F]fluorodeoxyglucose (FDG)) in the lungs of patients with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) and healthy volunteers.
RATIONALE: Studying samples of blood in the laboratory from patients receiving temozolomide may help doctors learn how temozolomide works in the body. It may also help doctors learn more about how a patient's genes may affect the risk of developing thrombocytopenia. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying the pharmacokinetics in patients with newly diagnosed high-grade glioma receiving temozolomide and radiation therapy.
RATIONALE: Drugs used in chemotherapy, such as paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation, work in different ways to stop the growth of tumor cells, either by killing the cells or by stopping them from dividing. Pemetrexed may stop the growth of tumor cells by blocking some of the enzymes needed for cell growth. Giving paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation together with pemetrexed may kill more tumor cells. PURPOSE: This phase I/II trial is studying the side effects and best dose of paclitaxel albumin-stabilized nanoparticle formulation when given together with pemetrexed and to see how well they work in treating patients with advanced non-small cell lung cancer, breast cancer, or other solid tumors.
RATIONALE: Interferon alfa may interfere with the growth of cancer cells. Interleukin-6 may stimulate the white blood cells to kill cancer cells. Giving interferon alfa together with interleukin-6 may kill more cancer cells. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying the side effects and how well giving interferon alfa together with interleukin-6 works in treating patients with recurrent multiple myeloma.
RATIONALE: Radiation therapy uses high-energy x-rays to kill tumor cells. Drugs, such as lithium, may protect normal cells from the side effects of radiation therapy. Giving lithium together with radiation therapy may allow a higher dose of radiation therapy to be given so that more tumor cells are killed. PURPOSE: This phase I trial is studying the side effects and best dose of lithium when given together with whole-brain radiation therapy in treating patients with brain metastases from primary cancer outside the brain.
RATIONALE: Vaccines made from the patient's cancer cells may help the body build an effective immune response to kill cancer cells. Giving vaccine therapy together with donor lymphocyte infusion after a stem cell transplant from the patient's brother or sister may kill any cancer cells that remain after transplant. PURPOSE: This clinical trial is studying the side effects, best dose, and how well vaccine therapy with or without donor lymphocyte infusion works in treating patients with acute myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoblastic leukemia, or multiple myeloma undergoing donor stem cell transplant.
Approximately 50% of middle-aged patients with severe AGHD have a normal age-related serum IGF-I. It remains unclear if in these individuals serum IGF-I is GH dependent or independent. This study compared the relationship between GH and serum IGF-I in two cohorts of male patients with severe AGHD; one with normal and the other with subnormal age-related serum IGF-I values. The GH receptor antagonist - pegvisomant was be used to specifically inhibit GH action and the changes in markers of the GH axis, such as serum IGF-I, IGFBP-3, GH and GHBP were measured.
