Effect of Tranexamic Acid on Postoperative Bleeding Following Sinus and Nasal Surgery

The purpose of the research is to assess the effectiveness of a dose of intravenous tranexamic acid (TXA) given intraoperatively to reduce postoperative bleeding after endoscopic sinus or nasal surgery (e.g. septoplasty, endoscopic sinus surgery, turbinate surgery). This medication has been shown to decrease blood loss during this type of surgery, but the implications for bleeding following surgery are unclear. Any impact on postoperative bleeding will be assessed over the first 7 days following surgery leading up to the first scheduled postoperative clinic visit. Patients will keep a standardized daily diary of their bleeding experience by indicating on a 0-10 visual analog scale (VAS) their impression of their bleeding. The primary outcome is the patient-reported visual analog scale (VAS) bleeding score on each day after surgery. The secondary outcomes include the the frequency with which the otolaryngology resident service is requested to evaluate patients in the recovery unit for postoperative bleeding concerns and the frequency of interventions such as application of hemostatic materials, packing, cautery, and/or return to the operating room.

This was a randomized, single-blind, parallel, placebo-controlled clinical trial assessing the efficacy of neuronavigational TBS among patients with AD. Fourty late-onset AD were included in the study, all the patients were divided into TBS groups and drug treatment group. Drug intervention group AD patients with drug regimen (donepezil 5mg / d) and primary care guidance, once every three months follow-up. TBS group is treated with TBS (a course of treatment every 3 months); after completing 4 treatments/follow-ups a year, evaluate the changes in MoCA, other clinical symptoms and multi-domain cognition tests, and brain Changes in structure and function.

The sarcopenia diagnosis is based on the muscle mass and on impaired physical performance. The emerging field of ultrasound assessment of muscle mass in older patients is based on 2d parameters with prediction equations for muscle mass. For the moment, validation of prediction equations in older adults with varying function and health is lacking. The study aims to evaluate correlation of muscle mass between 3D muscle mass measurement and DXA, in order to dispense with the prediction equation.

This phase II trial investigates the effect of irinotecan liposome and bevacizumab in treating patients with ovarian, fallopian tube, or primary peritoneal cancer that shows less response to platinum therapy (platinum resistant), has come back (recurrent), or does not respond to treatment (refractory). Irinotecan liposome may help block the formation of growths that may become cancer. Bevacizumab is a monoclonal antibody that may interfere with the ability of tumor cells to grow and spread. Giving irinotecan liposome and bevacizumab may kill more cancer cells.

Secondary objectives: To evaluate whether oral furosemide administered to high-risk women after delivery can reduce the frequency of postpartum hypertensive episodes, the need for antihypertensive therapy, the risk of postpartum preeclampsia, and the incidence of severe maternal morbidity.

18F-FMAU PET/CT and MRI for the Detection of Brain Tumors in Patients With Brain Cancer or Brain Metastases

This early phase I trial tests the use of a radioactive tracer (a drug that is visible during an imaging test) known as 18F-FMAU, for imaging with positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in patients with brain cancer or cancer that has spread to the brain (brain metastases). A PET/CT scan is an imaging test that uses a small amount of radioactive tracer (given through the vein) to take detailed pictures of areas inside the body where the tracer is taken up. 18F-FMAU may also help find the cancer and how far the disease has spread. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a type of imaging test used to diagnose brain tumors. 18F-FMAU PET/CT in addition to MRI may make the finding and diagnosing of brain tumor easier.
