NCT ID: NCT04926844 Completed - Status Epilepticus Clinical Trials

Effectiveness of Combined Levetiracetam and Midazolam in Generalized Convulsive Status Epilepticus in Children

Start date: June 20, 2021
Phase: Phase 2
Study type: Interventional

Generalized status epilepticus is a common pediatric neurological emergency with significant mortality and morbidity. Benzodiazepines remain the first anticonvulsive line but benzo-diazepines don't control seizures in about 30% of cases. GCSE may be more rapidly stopped and controlled through combining another drug with benzodiazepines such as Levetiracetam, acting by different pathways. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of combined levetiracetam and midazolam in treatment of generalized convulsive status epilepticus in children.

NCT ID: NCT04926376 Completed - Liver Cancer Clinical Trials

Safety and Effectiveness of Eye90 Microspheres™ in the Treatment of Unresectable HCC and mCRC

Start date: November 2, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

The purpose of this study is to evaluate the safety of treatment with Eye90 microspheres in patients with unresectable Hepatocellular Carcinoma (HCC) and metastatic Colorectal Cancer (mCRC). Both cause tumors, known as malignant hyper-vascular hepatic neoplasia, that have an abnormally large number of blood vessels attached to them. Eye90 is internal radiation brachytherapy for treatment of malignant hyper-vascular hepatic neoplasia that uses microspheres, tiny glass beads smaller in diameter than a human hair, to provide radiation. The microspheres contain Yttrium-90 (Y90) as the radiation source, which are used to to kill cancer cells and shrink tumors. The microspheres are also radiopaque, which means that they can be seen during imaging procedures. The visibility of the microspheres allows the study doctor to confirm the microspheres have been delivered in the tumor; this may help to improve the outcome of treatment.

NCT ID: NCT04925622 Completed - Parkinson Disease Clinical Trials

Complex Eye Movements in Parkinson's Disease and Related Movement Disorders

Start date: January 4, 2021
Phase:
Study type: Observational [Patient Registry]

Diagnosing Parkinson's disease (PD) depends on the clinical history of the patient and the patient's response to specific treatments such as levodopa. Unfortunately, a definitive diagnosis of PD is still limited to post-mortem evaluation of brain tissues. Furthermore, diagnosis of idiopathic PD is even more challenging because symptoms of PD overlap with symptoms of other conditions such as essential tremor (ET) or Parkinsonian syndromes (PSs) such as progressive supranuclear palsy (PSP), multiple system atrophy (MSA), corticobasal degeneration (CBD), or vascular Parkinsonism (VaP). Based on the principle that PD and PSs affect brain areas involved in eye movement control, this trial will utilize a platform that records complex eye movements and use a proprietary algorithm to characterize PSs. Preliminary data demonstrate that by monitoring oculomotor alterations, the process can assign PD-specific oculomotor patterns, which have the potential to serve as a diagnostic tool for PD. This study will evaluate capabilities of the process and its ability to differentiate PD from other PSs with statistical significance. The specific aims of this proposal are: To optimize the detection and analysis algorithms, and then to evaluate the process against neurological diagnoses of PD patients in a clinical study.

NCT ID: NCT04925596 Completed - Anxiety Clinical Trials

Prescription of Benzodiazepines by General Practitioners: Characteristics of Prescribing Trend and Implementation of an Online Educational Program

Start date: March 1, 2017
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Portugal has the highest benzodiazepine utilization compared to other European countries. The high utilization of benzodiazepines has been a concern due to reported side effects of long-term use and dependence. Also, these data demonstrate that doctors are possibly choosing an inadequate treatment to manage anxious and depressive syndromes. This research aims to develop and implement in primary health care units an online educational program, following a cluster randomized study design; to study the impact of this educational program for changing general practitioner's benzodiazepine prescription pattern; to analyze of barriers and facilitators to the implementation of the e-PrimaPrescribe program.

NCT ID: NCT04925557 Completed - Clinical trials for Secondary-progressive Multiple Sclerosis

Study to Assess the Efficacy of Mayzent on Microglia in Secondary Progressive Multiple Sclerosis

Start date: November 13, 2021
Phase: Phase 2/Phase 3
Study type: Interventional

To assess the efficacy of Mayzent on microglia pathology in patients with active SPMS, as compared to the active control group of MS patients treated with the Ocrevus, as measured by changes in microglial activation in the lesional and non-lesional NAWM and NAGM and in the peri-plaque area of chronic lesions in the brain.

NCT ID: NCT04925518 Completed - Clinical trials for Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

Closed Loop Mechanical Ventilation and ECMO

Start date: March 6, 2016
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

Mechanical ventilation and ECMO are both technologies interacting on gas exchange. Nevertheless, besides a consensus paper, no evidence-based guidelines regarding protective lung ventilation on ECMO exist to date. Mechanical Ventilation with Intellivent-ASV, an algorithm driven, closed loop system, provides an opportunity to standardize ventilation on ECMO. We propose and validate lung protective ventilation with a closed loop ventilation mode in patients with ECMO.

NCT ID: NCT04923555 Completed - Metabolic Syndrome Clinical Trials

Analysis of the Postprandial Effects of a Vegetable Protein Mixture Rich in Arginine, Cysteine and Leucine on Endothelial Dysfunction and Inflammation at Low Noise in Elderly People With Cardiometabolic Risk

P-PROBS CM
Start date: November 9, 2021
Phase: N/A
Study type: Interventional

By 2050, the expanding world population will consume two-thirds more animal protein than it consumes today. The increase in chronic diseases associated with the generalization of these consumption patterns tend to understand the place of meat in our diets. All these elements participate to the reduction of animal proteins in favor of vegetable proteins in our food. The elderly are particularly affected by malnutrition, the prevalence of protein-energy malnutrition increasing with age and promoting the onset of morbidities. Without care, it leads to the worsening of physiological phenomena linked to aging such as loss of muscle functionality (sarcopenia) or reduction in bone density (osteoporosis) and increases the risk of falls - the main cause of dependence. However, in France, protein consumption declines significantly with age, even though requirements appear to be greater for the elderly. It is therefore a major challenge for our societies to ensure that the aging of the population and the increase in life expectancy are not synonymous with a reduction in the physical and mental capacities of individuals. Thus, it is essential to ensure that the recommendations for reducing the intake of animal proteins in favor of vegetable proteins can be applied without risk to aging populations, in particular on the human body cardiovascular risk of these populations.
