Clinical Trial Summary

The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of an acceptance-based therapy intervention on adolescents with overweight/obesity.

Clinical Trial Description

Participants will be asked to fill out questionnaires/surveys and health measures will be collected at two baseline visits and a post-treatment study visit. Participants will be randomized to either acceptance-based therapy (ABT) or to enhanced care.

Both ABT and enhanced care will be four months in duration. Participants randomized to ABT will attend 12 sessions (weekly for the first 8 weeks, then bi-weekly for the next 8 weeks). Participants randomized to enhanced care will receive a total of 12 mailed handouts over the 4-month period. Information in the handouts will match what is being taught at the ABT sessions and will be mailed at the time each of the ABT sessions occurs.

After completion of the post-treatment study visit, WellCare medical records will be reviewed at 4-month follow-up (month 8) as the final component of the study.
